I've been wondering as of late if the outerwear is actually unnecessary... It seems that Sims will sometimes walk into the snow without their outerwear on and it doesn't bother them. Outerwear on, they still freeze. Occasionally, a Sim will forget to remove their outwear and go inside, but their temperature remains moderate.
What do you think? Have you actually seen outerwear doing something other than looking good?

Well, my sims seem to freeze without it. With it too, I admit, but only if they're out too long. And I think they do get colder faster when they're being stubborn and flail around on the front lawn, in the middle of the winter, in just their knickers.
But even if I'm wrong, the looking good part makes up for it if you ask me

yeah I definitely noticed sims getting cold quicker when out in the snow/cold without outerwear on. It's not instant, but it's faster. I also noticed their temperatures skyrocket when making out/playing in outerwear...even outside!

I have terrible childhood memories of me being all hot and sweaty inside my raincoat because I had run around... so it sounds realistic IMO :D

There are some bugs with the thermometer. Sometimes your sims will randomly get hot or cold. Maybe thats the same with outerwear. If you ask me, I think a sim with and a sim without outerwear on outside in the middle of winter freeze at the same time. Whenever Maxis decides to release their seasons patch, it should be fixed IF it is a problem

I've noticed a difference! Sims freeze much faster when naked then with outerwear on... *cough*

That's actually pretty easy. Just place a hot tub outdoors, make your sims use it and then when they've switched to bathingsuits, just cancel the action. Presto! Instant (almost) freeze.
I have this problem where two of my sims who're very much in love like the hot tub a little too much, and then they always wound up kissing and making out outside, in their bathingsuits. If I don't keep an eye on them, this happens all the time! I'm starting to wonder if they're are going to be a permanent blue.
