Do not do it the way Thunderesss says, please, unless you would like to mess up the neighborhood you're moving them into. For some reason the game allows you to move sims in some Very Bad ways which will mess things up royally.

Nice.......I read this article, thanks btw. But I loaded up SimPE and seems there is duplicate family and now SimPE won't load. I seem to recall playing around with moving things a few weeks ago though and I think I may have did the bad thing without even realizing it....til SimPE loaded and I read the article and I put 2 and 2 together.
Looks like I'll be reinstalling from scratch tonight to get everything back to default

Well, err, you don't have to reinstall to restore everything to defaults. Move your Downloads folder out, then delete the My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder, then run the game. It'll regenerate new files and folders, and you can then close it and pop back in your Downloads.

You can't really do this if you have FreeTime installed though - anything that requires opening the Neighborhood browser is a bad idea until SimPE is updated.

yeah thats what my dilemma is/was.
I wanted to move say, the restored Cooke or Contrary family into my custom neighborhood. But I would not be able to do that n PE since SimPE does not read Dissidente valley. So there would be no way to get those sims out.
So what I will do after I reinstall (I already uninstalled before reading your reply), I will just move everyone into dissidente valley since SimPE reads the older neighborhoods. Then when SimPE gets updated, I will just place everyone in my custom neighborhood. I do like the layout of dissidente valley anyways so it's all good (I hope)

No, no, no.
Do not use SimPE at all if you have FreeTime installed.

Wait for it to be updated - there's already a QA tester version that has some FreeTime support, but you will completely mess up your game if you do this right now.

this may explain why i'm having problems too. I built two houses, that had families in them, moved them to a new neighborhood. I was having a LOT of problems with the families, so I moved them out of the houses and deleted them. But the houses are still in the house bins. everytime i try to delete them, my game crashes. I tried deleting them from the house bin from my ea folders when the game was off, and they aren't there. I don't know what to do.
