Picked up the DVD. Uninstalled Half-Life 2 to make sure I still have at least a quarter of my HD free after installation. From what I've played so far....it's good. It definitely runs smoother than the demo did, which I'm very happy about, though I only really notice it during the really intense fire fights. Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I heard it's decent as well--the slow motion aspect is essentially a team power-up. "Bullet time" is tricky to do in games--I personally think The Specialists mod for Half-Life 1 handled it the best. And yes, little girls are still creepy. Maybe I've just lost my edge since System Shock 2, but there are too many vibrating boxes and swinging lights for me to be relaxed. |

I want it so bad, although looking at the minimal requirements for it (256mb graphics, 2ghz CPU and gig of RAM) i dont think that my PC can handle it... |

I suppose F.E.A.R. is as good a reason as any. I finished the game a weak or so ago, using a copy lent by a friend. It is GOOD. The ending is a bit odd, but pretty clever is some respects....no real boss battle, but I won't spoil it. Little girls are STILL really creepy. And when they're grown up, wandering around naked...it doesn't help. I'll need to buy the DVD version...right now, it's coming down between Civ IV and F.E.A.R....decisions, decisions. |

actually i heard from a friend that the producer of the game actually said that if you play F.E.A.R late at night and with all the lights off that you will not sleep for at least 24 hours, cause of how scary its supposed to be... not sure how true it is tho |

Well that IS how many people say survival horror games are supossed to be played... I'd really like to have that game, sounds awesome... I may actually install the demo I got, just to see if my comp can take it... |

Just don't go expecting a survival horror aka the Resident Evil series (bar 4 which was an action title, not a survival horror). FEAR is a first person shooter with a horror theme. |

Yes. It gets creepy at times.....but not THAT creepy. Say, on one hand, you have "We Don't Go to Ravenholm" of HL2, and on the other, you have System Shock 2, which, for me, is the ultimate in pants-shitting electronic entertainment. F.E.A.R. falls somewhere between that, far scarier than Ravenholm, but not as scary as listening to SHODAN breath down your neck via the PA system on the Von Braun. I can't compare it to RE because I personally never found the RE games to be particularly scary. It may be an issue of taste, or it might be because I'm usually screaming at the camera to display properly so I can be scared. Gotta play RE4...

RE was scary because we learned about the virus in the end, before that we had no clue what the hell was going on. The element of unknown is what makings things scary, if you explain it then its not going to scare you much because you know what it is ... best way to kill horror is to explain it. That is why RE stop being scary from RE2 on. In a way its why Silent Hill series continued to be the same (until 4 that I never played), because even if we know some elements for the most part its still unknown ... |

Next time you post something like that, quote me on it ![]() however, yes I read that in PCGA about it, I read the review and is it true, that unlike HL2 bones break and body parts fall apart? |

There are much scarier games out there than F.E.A.R (such as the afore mentioned System Shock 2) that quote is just Monolith buying into their own press. |

Very odd issues with the AI there, by rights every room you enter that has enemies in it the enemies will be on timed patrols. Once alerted to your presence the AI kicks in and provides what are easily the best gun fights in the FPS genre to date. I'm assuming you aren't playing it on the low difficulty settings (that retards the AI significantly). Can't say I've encountered anything close to your description for the AI. |

Odd. I'm going with ElPresidente on this one...the AI is pretty inventive (as oppose to, say, COD2 or Half-Life 2), and they do use the environment fairly well (they particularly love knocking over bookcases, I noticed).

Ah! Shogo...Mobile Armor Division! A fun, anime-flavored mecha romp, with lots of explosions, lots of violence, and a whole hell of a lot of missiles. Good times, good times.

Just for the record Enter the Matrix was Shiny, not Monolith. And yes, SHOGO: Mobile Armoured Division kicked arse. |

This is an old thread, I know, but I just picked up a copy of the game. :P I'm in heaven. Pure heaven. Right from the very beginning I just felt this total sensation of geekness. The creepiness is wicked awesome and the fireifghts are brilliant. My highlight so far is hearing one of the bad guys scream, "Die you mother*****!" after a rather long battle. That just gave me feelings of joy beyond description. :jig: The only beef I have at the moment is my uncanny ability to knock things off tables when I'm not really anywhere near them. I think in a future patch, they should tone down the collision range for the player. Anyways..gonna go play more. :rage: |

There is a good bit of vibration (wait! seriously!). Originally, I thought it was supposed to be a "scare-effect", but then I realized that pretty much every time I brush up against a shelf, its contents vibrate like something out of The Exorcist. *rim shot* I've been enjoying the multiplayer more...I don't play the single player more, though I should. I have to admit, it runs better than The Sims 2...though that might because of my insistence on having full graphical splendor and, often enough, big lots. |

I've been replaying this now I've recieved my new PC and it is still an absolute blast. Been a few good shooters out of late. I'll even begrudgingly admit that Quake IV is a lot of fun. Grrrr. |

I've been doing some tinkering since I posted about vibrations and such, and it seems to die down quite a bit if you max out the physics passing. On low, I could make things rattle from a few feet away, on medium, it still happened, but when I turned the physics passing on Maximum, it didn't do it anymore. When I hit stuff, it rattled for what something like that would in real life and stopped. Upon furthering tinkering, my card (GeForce FX5500 - 256MB - AGP8X) can actually run smoothly with a lot of the higher features on. I have effects, decals, lighting, textures, reflections, water, and world objects on full and the only time there's really any issues is right after a checkpoint save or when I first load the level after quitting for awhile, but that smooths out after moving around for a few seconds. I have shadows off and and the game won't let me enable the DX9 shaders (although the card partially supports them), which makes it so I can't see some of the windows in the levels with outdoor areas or the glass on picture frames (although if I shoot them, glass magically sprays out). All of this comes at a sacrifice of resolution though..I have to run it at 800x600, which is actually not that bad for me because I like to record my game footage and my TV will only display up to 800x600. |

F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) is another brilliant success from Monolith, a well known and respected developer in the first person shooter genre. It blends a horror theme with intense, in your face gun fights, beautiful effects, and an advanced artificial intelligence engine. In my book, it ranks with some of the best games in existence. *stalks a Monolith employee and gives them unrelenting huggles* |

I rememeber Resident Evil 4 was an action title. If they went threw and released the original version of it it would have been a horror title a big scary one too. And Even though FEAR is first person i bet it is a little creepy. Like Silent Hill 4, though only a BIG part that you keep coming back to that certain spot in first person it was really scary with the ghost demons and all coming threw the wall.... Well that went off topic. Well back to fear!
