Is anyone interested in this game yet? It comes out in the spring and it looks great so far.

Its being made by Turbine. The makers or DDO and AC.

A fantasy MMORPG + Lord of the Rings = OMG

They are accepting beta testers right now. You can apply HERE.

Jesus Christ...first Firefly, now this. I suppose MMORPGs are so formulaic that they've become the new "easy adaptation" from a movie to a video game.

Though I can hardly judge--I've never seen any of the LOTR movies.

It sounds great, but I don't like that it's gonna get a monthly fee.. But I signed for beta, hopefully beta testers get free access.

Got invited to the beta but had to turn it down as another writer from my magazine is doing the story so he got the nod to take up the invite.

Looks like I may have to take my chances on the open beta.

And guys don't say a game is 'addicting'. That is a horrible massacre of the English language. The word is 'addictive'. Thank you. :)

It's free only for the weekend. After that (when it's release fully in march I believe?) we have to pay :'(

Though, if it's good and makes me want to play more I wouldn't mind pay to play.

You ARE kidding right?

LotR was books before it was a series of movies. Besides its only natural to have a LRO game since LotR is what started it all. Its the father of D&D, EQ, WoW and any fantasy (mmo, console, paper, miniture, card, larp or solo pc) rpg that ever existed.

Its far from just cashing in. It just makes sense.

I can't wait for this to come out! I found the site for it months ago, and signed up for beta, but unfortunatly I was never contacted. I'm not thrilled about the monthly fee, but will definitely subscribe. I can't miss this!

They send me an invitation key code thingy to test their BETA2, so was very happy, follow instructions to retrieve said Beta account register and key in the usual infos, think of "incredibly hard to crack passwords" (in my opinion atleast). after which i proceed to download the client.......

anyway lets just say by the time I have the client downloaded onto my computer my BETA2 testing period would have expired.

Having been accepted to the Beta programme, I can honestly say... WOW! It's such a great game, and the graphics are amazing. I would reccommend it to anyone... when it comes out, that is.

No....I'm pretty sure that it's still just cashing in, Chobitz. Considering they've already made several LOTR real-time strategy games and off-line adventure games, with varying degrees of success.

Yeah, it's definitely cashing in. I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that, the electronic entertainment industry is market-driven, obviously.

I realize that the movies had their origins in a series of books--but saying LOTR is the "father of all fantasy series like Warcraft (not WoW, WoW is just one of many Warcraft spinoffs), etc." is tantamount to saying "Star Trek is the father of all science-fiction exploration series"--yes, they certainly borrowed heavily from that original material, but it's not as though no-one ever thought of high fantasy before LOTR was written, and only after then it suddenly appeared in the collective population's psyche.

The client was over 5 gigs, I had a beta key and couldn't ever be arse'd enough to use that much of bandwidth for so long.

Whoever makes a character called Legolas will have the name changed.

You can't use the names of existing characters in the Middle Earth canon.
