I just wanted to know which screenshot program is best, seeing as the ones I use, for some unknown reason, only take completely black screenshots. >_< It's really irked me that I have to either a) Print Screen, minimize Sims 2, open Paint, paste, save, maximize Sims 2, wait, continue playing, or b) take in-game shots with the in-game camera that, imo, suck. :/

So, what program do you use or can suggest, or if you don't use one, can anyone tell me how they get their in-game shots looking fab? Anything is appreciated!

P&L, Kate (who still cannot believe she just typed "fab")

FRAPS is the very first program I tried, actually. It's when I first got the black screenshot.

I've only tried FRAPS, but I love it.
I have no idea why you would get black sceenshots, but I'm pretty sure it's not because of FRAPS.

Oh, I know it's not because of it. I get it with the 3+ programs I've already tried, though I can't figure out at all why it's doing it either.

EDIT: I have a question, though. Does everyone play in windowed mode? Because they come out normal in windowed mode.

I do not play in windowed mode, and my screenshots with FRAPS come out perfectly.

I'd recommend Gadwin instead of FRAPS. Because it works outside of a game, and it's just plain more awesome. Professionals usually use Gadwin either.

Gadwin turned out exactly the same as all the others. They all take wonderful screenshots, but for the Sims 2 fullscreen, they turn out completely black.

I believe it's something about your pc. Google "hardware acceleration" and turn it off.

I use ScreenHunter Pro. Not as good as FRAPS, but still nice.

I like that FRAPS works only works inside games. But hey.

Maybe you should just give up and play in windowed mode, lekate. It's more fun anyway since you can do other stuff while you're playing.

Fellow FRAPS-users, do you know how you get rid of that ugly serial number thingie in the top right corner of your screenshots? Mine all come out like this:

That's in the game, not FRAPS. It's because you're playing with testingcheats on, I think. You'll either have to turn it off or crop the number out every time.

So I went to turn off my hardware acceleration, and it said this:

"Your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings." And the button to change the properties is grayed out. So...now what?

I play in windowed mode and use IrfanView, but the pictures come out just fine when taking pictures with full screen game play as well.

o_O; I play window mode, And i use the ingame camera. I don't have a problem with my pictures.

Then again, I dont know what "problem" there is with the ingame camera.
Besides the limited size.
But the size is good enough for me. ;D

Also I play with max grafics.

lekate, that means you have an app controlling your graphic device, most likely comes bundled with your graphic card. I don't know about nVidia, but I'm using ATI and it has a control center app. Maybe you can try turning it off from there.

I've seen this with certain Nvidia drivers and Vista.. Make sure your drivers are up to date. If you have a desktop you should be able to download the appropriate drivers via ATI.com or Nvidia.com. If you have a laptop it comes less easy.. first try at the manufacturer's website. Like if the laptop is a Dell go to Dell.com

I recently went on a major Screenie Program roadtest, so...

FRAPPS - I personally don't like it.
Faststone - Actually really good! The 'studio' that came up was annoying but you can get rid of it in the settings.
Gadwin - The best out of the ones I tried, but comes up with a big fat ugly red UNREGISTERED VERSION on it if you don't pay/have a code. (I didn't know that until AFTER i took my photos for a contest!)
KalMuRi - It's a free Korean program, and it works almost as well as Fast Stone. That's the one I'm using at the moment.

I tried MANY more, but that's the shortest list I cam come up with.

Yeah, I do have an ATI control center, but I looked and searched and I don't see any options for hardware acceleration. Also, I checked on Dell for a driver, but they don't have one for the card I have.

What is the manufacturer/model number of your computer and the graphics card? I'll find you the latest drivers if you can give me that much. If you're not sure how, check out my explanation in this post: http://forums.sims2community.com/sh...471&postcount=4

Faststone is definitely the best ive tried its simply and easy to use and leaves good quality pictures with no marks on them.

Can I ask what makes Gadwin superior? It seems like screenshot programs are pretty straight forward and all do the same thing,
