Hello,
I've played all the Sims games from the beginning with the exception of a few expansions and I've always been disappointed in how limited the house styles are. I'm wondering if anyone knows if TS3 is more flexible and will allow us to build things like circular homes, dome houses (both monolithic and geodesic), pyramids, underground homes (like hobbit homes, teletubby style homes, sweat lodges), huts, lighthouses, towers, domed ceilings on city buildings, the fortress of solitude etc. In the Star Trek homage I saw a glass geodesic dome in the background and I saw a curved porch roof but I'm wondering if anyone has any more info. Thanks bunches

Namaste, Prana

From what I've heard, the build options (and method of building) is very very similar to TS2 - there are diagonal roofs and some other roofing types that we got with TS2, but not near the type of stuff you're looking for. I'm sure skilled builders will figure out a way to use the build cheats and the inevitable custom content to create all manner of cool stuff though. After all, we have lighthouses, hobbit homes, and even the Death Star for TS2...

Oh they even did several mosques I was pretty impressed with! They looked kinda like the Taj-Mahal, but the domes were painted gold. VERY pretty!

If you mess with constrainFloorElevation, I'm sure you could get a flat roof to bend, but you won't be able to get the wall to curve around in a circular fashion.

There is a domed roof in the game. Haven't played around with it yet though.

Probably the glass dome you saw in the vid was the one from the Science Lab. You can see it in several neighborhood screens. I don't think it's something you can build with -- either a hood decoration or part of the science lab rabbit hole.

I believe a video I saw on Youtube showed a dome roof being put on a house in build mode. However, I have no idea where the video is on Youtube so I have no proof.

Well they do have a domed roof from what I understand, but I don't know why they do that and not not make rounded walls. The one's in TS2 never seemed to really fit very well imo. I wish there was a way to combine roof styles without getting that cross over look - like if you use the regular a-frame roof from front to back and then make one from side to side, you get that roof edge showing through. if your side to side one is not the full length of your house, then you're stuck with the edge showing half the way through and you either have to figure out some other type of roof or do some rigging to make the edging.

Lol, my explanations may not give you exactly the pic I'm trying to give you, so I may check some of my screenshots and see if I can show an example, if that is allowed since this is not a picture thread.

eww I totally know how you mean with the roof bits sticking out. it takes the look away from the houses.

I highly doubt there would ever be circular walls. It would be hard to do with the grid on the ground, and even harder to make normal walls come off the circular room (like a hall or something).

Then again.. They might surprise us

i think that the reason there aren't circular walls is because objects are straight, not rounded.

just my thoughts

If geodesic domes or yurts were more common, EA would have added them in. Both have lots of flat planes. It would look neat ingame, but would lead to more clipping issues than already exist.
