I've lost the ability to place stages. When I try, I get an error message that a fence or halfwall is in the way -- even though there isn't. Can cc be responsible for this? or is it something else?

Problem solved -- To answer my own question, yes, cc can prevent stages from being built. I didn't know cc could do that. The culprit was a fence -- I'm not sure which one yet, I moved all of my fences out of my downloads folder with Download Organizer and will have to do the half and half method now.

You can build stages with..Uh..Well to make it easier..look at the stages stuff and click on the kind of stage that look likes bamboo! I hope this is good info!
