I was thinking about this last night, The Sims 3 takes place in the past, when Mortimer Goth is a child. The Sims 2 takes place in the future when Mortimer Goth is an elder. The sims 3 speaks alot of Pleasantview. While pleasantview doesnt exist until after Old Town (The neighborhood in The Sims) Why would there be talk of a neighborhood that wont exist for almost 100 Sim Years? Because Will Wright didn't think this plan through all the way i guess lol.

How do you know Pleasantview doesn't exist until after Old Town? :O

It's not meant to be perfect - just to have a few characters and references that players of the series will recognize. If you're looking for continuity errors, you'll find them all over as they weren't really trying to make it perfect.

If you really want a continuity error, then I've got two words for you: Tragic Clown.

But like HP said, it's not ment to be a prequel more a "what if".
Everyone will have their favorite chars from past series, so why not include them?
What if Mortimer and Bella never met? What if Agnes Crumplebotten had lived a happy life?

Agnes could have had a happy life? That'd be something to see..

Note that Agnes Crumplebottom isn't the Mrs. Crumplebottom of TS1&TS2. An Agnes Crumplebottom exists in TS2, but as a deceased relation to the Goth family. Mrs. Crumplebottom is a distant relation to Agnes.

But I still like to pretend otherwise.

edit: Those references to Pleasantview are called "easter eggs" and are not necessarily plot canon.

hee, the clown is a huge continuity error, correct. What about cell phones though? XD Why would everyone just randomly stop using them in 1 and 2? ;D Its not perfect anyways though. I don't like to think too much about it. Assume its a different plot line.

Um, the whole town burned down and they had to remake everything but they forgot how to make cell phones? Temporarily?

The Tragic Clown from S1 is deceased in S3, which is supposed to be a prequel to S1.

Although the Tragic Clown could theoretically be some horrible monster returned from the grave.

Because Sunset Valley is set before the emergence of Pleasantview and N1 from S1, as evidenced by Mortimer and Bella being children in S3, but adults in S1.

My oldest son just married Bella and they have 3 lovely children. Sorry Morty. I considered naming them Cassandra and Alex... but no.

Okay, Mortimer a child at the same time that Malcolm Landgraab is? Yet, in S2 Mortimer is old and Malcolm is young.

Yes, it goes:

Sunset Valley turned into "Old Town" which expanded and was renamed Pleasantview

Hence plotline goes S3>S1>S2

Note that there are MANY Malcolm Landgraabs. I assume this one to be Malcolm Landgraab II as his father Geoffery and from what research I've done, the name skipped a generation or two.

Is the clown burried somewhere or how is it known it's dead?

I'm currently playing Riverview, the plot errors in there
- Bob Newbie is a young adult
- Skip Broke is a young adult or teen
I haven't visited the Newbie house, so don't know yet where's Betty, but it pretty much means Skip was realy old when Brandi married him.
