I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't find anywhere else it should go.

Basically, I would like to make sub-folders within my packages folder to organise my downloads by the site they are from. I then want another set of sub folders to arrange them by download date so that if I get a problem with one it is easier to find. Will this be ok to do or will it cause problems with my game?

Thanks.

As long as you have Sims 3>Mods>Packages, you can add any other sub folders within the "Packages". I've got a bunch of different subfolders and subs-within-subs..."Clothes, Mods, Misc," etc., and I've had no problems with my game whatsoever, so I'd say it's pretty safe.

Yeah it's safe. I have folders for nearly everything so I can find and replace it as necessary. Game mods, shirts, pants, outfits, shoes, patterns, etc. As Snowpelt said, long as it's under the packages folder it's fine.

The voices in my head say you're the weird one.

As long as your Resource.cfg allows for subfoldering, you'll be fine. Most of the resource.cfg files available for download have been set up to allow subfoldering, but you can always open yours with a text editor to check. You need to see this:

Quote:
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*.package
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*.package
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package

This particular configuration allows for four levels of subfoldering (eg., Mods/Packages/clothes/female/mts/creatorname/skirt.package).

Can I edit the Resource.cfg myself using notepad or is it wise to download one that already has that capability?

You can safely edit the file using notepad. Just be sure it's the Resource.cfg that you added to the root folder and not one of the game's original Resource.cfg files.

I just started organizing by sub folders my self yesterday. I am rather glad EA kept this in cause I know TS2 had it. I don't know if TS1 did too.
