Just wondered if anyone else has had a number of children die in the game. I have spent time with each family in my town so that they have good jobs, a house well decorated and kids and yet at least five children, including toddlers have either starved to death or been struck by lightening! It's just a bit disturbing having a sim reading the newspaper and learning that yet another child in the town is dead.

This is natural selection, for you.
You're too dumb, you die.
Sims are extremely dumb, they die en masse.

Winning the Game
Don't be absurd. This is an EA game! What's to win? You have already lost 50 bucks when you bought a game that contains even less than TS2 base game, and you're gonna spend ten times more if you want to get all the features that you enjoyed in TS2!

I haven't really had anyone regularly read the paper so it's possible that I've had kid deaths and not known about them. But no such deaths on the occasions I did have sims read the paper.

Maybe it's the game trying to keep the population down due to an excess of toddlers and children?

Back when I was using Indie Stone Mod I was notified that Cycl0ne Sw0rd had been crushed by a piano, lol. No idea if it was an ISM or an EA feature.

I have not had any children or toddlers die in my game. At least to my knowledge. The only sim deaths my sims read about in the paper are those from old age.

I've seen a few children dead on family trees, I can understand why they die. Some times when I visit households that were already created, they kids are tired and hungry. The house still only has cribs and or just one bedroom. It's kind of dumb...

i've actually read that The Sims 3 tries to keep an even population of different types of people, so maybe this was a feature to get rid of a surplus of toddlers and children. dumb, i know, but there isn't really anything you can do about it except wait till they grow up.

That's not exactly true. Awesomemod stops these nonsensical deaths. And of course with no mods there's always the option of turning Story Mode off, but that tends to make things a lot less interesting.

I have only had sims die of old age in my games. Right now in my oldest game (I think I'm on week 20 or something) I have simmies dying at 2-4 per day of old age. My first sim completed all the charisma challenges and has many friend beyond the requirements. So I end up with a ridiculous number of pop-ups warning/notifying me of getting old/ dying. I normally have my sims read the paper and I've not been notified of deaths of people my sims didn't know.

After all these deaths though your graveyard is going to be sooo full! Maybe until you fix the problem, you may want to start working on a second cemetery.

I had a really strange death the other day. It said

"Such and such has just died from a horable death. Blah blah was hit by a metor while eating a vanilla icecream, it could have been strawberry, the reminice blood was well mixed into the icecream for us to really know what it was. Though the ducks found it tasty."

I gagged a little... :S

Do kids die in the households you're controlling? I thought it was like TS2, they wouldn't die, they'd just get taken by the social worker.

I've never had a child die. Panique, I think in TS2, they took the toddlers away but I've successfully killed some children in TS2.

Story Progression will randomly kill sims for no reason. Both EA and ISM will randomly kill them off like that. Better hope it doesn't happen to someone you care about, although ISM will let you switch that part off. EA won't.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they pissed me off.

EA story progression works with even numbers. If there are too many two-person households, for example, story progression will move some out.

Sounds like in your case everyone decided to get busy around the same time and lo and behold, too many kids. EA-SP freaked out and declared "SURPLUS OF CHILLUNS. NEED TO OFF THEM, NAOUGHW." and thus, massive childcide.

Contrary to popular belief from some people I've seen, yes, you can turn off EA-SP. There is an option for it in the game settings, though it's not reccommended because suddenly you'll have so many of the same types of sims you won't know what to do with yourself.

P.S. Ooops, I didn't see the date on this thing, I just saw an opening for my time to shine >< Disregard me
