-Udpate here- [click me]

I haven't been building houses in ages.
Now the Sims3 is available, a new hype and builders everywhere. Reading through hundred of pages from other people I just couldn't resist, dusting off my old Sims2 game and giving it a try.

Since my inspiration always had been a bit simple, I searched through the web. What I found:

We all love sideway drive ways. They just perfectly fit for big houses and castles, so I prepared a decent slot:

~

I could have used red bricks like the original building, but I wasn't happy with the output.
Renovating is everyones hobby and I liked the white bricks best. Gives a fresher look. ^^

Everyone will tell me that the house looks a bit naked. Don't worry, I'm working on it.
The garden still is a bit empty, but I fear if I overload the poor house, you don't get to see much of the mansion itself. o.o I'm a lost case gardener.

As you can see I destroyed the driveway to make room for a moat.
I still have no idea about further landscaping and the floorplan is giving me headaches.
I will post screenshots of the current floorplan later on.

______________
And I don't know how to park the thumbnails side by side. I tried, but it looks like they always get put in a row underneath each other. o.o''

I'm not sure what kind of advice you are looking for. Are you trying to make it look like the house in the pic you have for inspiration? Or are you asking our opinions in regards to what you actually created? They are def. two different homes. There aren't any interior photos either. Can we have some of those please?

I concur. I thought she was trying to create a lot after the photo she posted, but it looks nothing like it. Also, she said she was "inspired" by the photo. So is she just trying to make a castle in general or one after that photo?

@ 1ove: Just a castle in general.
I don't want to copycat houses a 100% - I left that behind me. ^^

@rhedbuddha: I am asking your opinions in regards to what I created.

And yes, ofc, I'll add interior pictures later on. Except for some stairs the house is empty, cos I don't even know how to place walls yet.

As asked for, here are the current floor plans.
My issue: I tried placing walls and creating rooms a couple of times, but I couldn't come with an idea I liked. Maybe some of you creative folk will find a fitting solution.

Gardening always was my limping leg.

I think the rear is quite acceptable,

But i really need help with the rest of the lot. Thanks for reading this so far - and thanks in advance, whatever advice may come. =)

For the floor plan I guess I would first list the basics:
First floor - kitchen, dining, living, bathroom or powder room
Second floor - bedrooms and bathrooms
third floor - is void right?

Landscaping you would need terrain paints and lots of flowers for color. You can watch Qbuilderz megatorial on landscaping on thesimsupply website.

There are three sides to a story:
Your side, the other person's side and the truth.

Thx flip.
Yeah, kitchen, living room, bath at ground floor sounds reasonable.
Same for the second floor to be the bedroom area.
Third floor: Well, yeah, leaving the roof empty might be easier than filling it. That's why there aren't any stairs atm.

I still am not sure how to place the walls to actually do it. Shall I just place walls and leave the castle empty so people can place the interrior themselves?

About the landscapping tutorial, found it at youtube, currently watching. ^^

IMHO, I think you should def. put items in the house to suggest where people can place things. This isn't a starter, so it's not like you're trying to keep the house under a certain simolian amount.

I suggest you think about the way a real house works as far as the layout is concerned. Usually there is a foyer (which you can make pretty sizeable). Off the foyer is usuall a livingroom or parlour. Then you could place the kitchen/dining room or space in one corner and maybe a conservatory in another. Don't forget to add at least one half bath on the main floor so simmies don't have to go all the way up to the second living level to use the loo.

On the level with the bedrooms you could add a bedroom in each corner and at least one bath per bedroom. It looks like you could fit four decent sized rooms there with one in each corner, like I said, and two side-by-side in the middle. Maybe making each one a private little suite. You certainly have the room for it.

The top floor should def. stay decorational only. Sims take WAY too long moving from the top floor down two flights of stairs to get outside.

I have found that people like fully furnished and unfurnished lots about the same. For those people I suggest you upload both files so they have a choice. That way the people that don't necessarily want all the interior decor choices you made can still download the house without the hassle of going in and manually deleting the objects they don't want. Plus the pics you add (fully furnished) will give them ideas of functionalilty.

Sorry about the "book" but I'm really excited about where this project is going and would like to help you see it through. :D

It is a very unique layout that has a lot of portential. It would be wonderful to see how you would segregate the rooms and decorate them. That would give it even more character.

This house was hunting me - even in my dreams. Decisions had to be made -
and after several tries please have a sneak of the current changes:

As you can see I added a bigger tower at the left side of the house -
and completely renewed the roof. It was a bit tricky, but I hope it looks better now.

The garden haunted me aswell. It looked a bit like the original one but it wasn't pleasing me.
I even started disliking the pond - so I just cleared the ares for fresh ideas.

Stumbling over hexameters adorable carriage I just had to sell the car,
break down the small fence and create a decent wall and gate fitting the carriage. ^^

I would love to hear everyone's opinions, cos your input will help me waking up this sleeping beauty. ^^
Thx for taking your time, greetings, Kathy

I would happily download the EMPTY SHELL without ANYTHING inside, not even walls! I like building, but I hate my results [I always end up with huge boxes], and a gorgeous shell with no interior would be fun to play with! Which version would I want? Anything from Post #2 on. They`re ALL gorgeous!

The way you reworked the roofs is very unique. I have to say that I would not have the courage to do those roofs on a three story house. I also really like the tower you added and the front wall. The only thing I am not in love with is the siding on the wall and the white brick on the house. If you're going for an old castle look, try an older-looking stone for the house and maybe something like an old brick for the wall. Looking good otherwise!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Since I didn't like certain windows I replaced them,
recoloured some plants for a friendly athmosphere,
recoloured the wall before castle, will recolor house soon.

Started placing some walls inside the house -
but I'll have to do some mayor changes again I fear.

Imho it's all a bit dark and not fitting atm,
but I basically placed stuff there to get a feeling ~
about roomsizes, functionality and path structure. xD

Having a look at this awesome Manor I got some more ideas,
need some recolors first tho. Tapestries and furniture.
Especially for chairs. This color for Sims2 would rock.
Hopefully this one still works. :D

All your ideas are very welcome,
as you can see at the changes I already made. ^^

looks nice, but from the outside it looks a lot more like those... "something" hotels, the classic-themed ones or whatever... but in a GOOD way! maybe changing the interior and removing the driveway (because for me, the driveway worked ok for a while but a huge, major, annoying glitch happened.. *sigh*) will allow you to do so.

@Lavaster: The driveway only appeared in the first version.

If you scroll down all posts, you'll see, that the driveway already had to make room for a moat, a bridge and later on I changed the roof and house aswell.

Currently downloading bricks of all sort to recolor the house. ^^

It's fine. ^^
I'm already glad that someone is still having a look,
cos atm it seems like everyone's concentrating on the Sims3 -
and doesn't care too much about us poor Sims2 players. xD
