Just run into something weird, I had combined kitchen and living room but moved the kitchen to a separate room to avoid negative reactions from dirty dishes and more space I also added a fireplace in the living room.
Now all the sims goes to the kitchen to read even if they preferred the sofa before the rebuild. The living room give a +25 environment bonus and the kitchen only +10, the sofa is +++ and the chairs only ++, the bookcase is close to the sofa so this makes little sense.
Will try to remove the fireplace and see if it helps.

Yes, sims can be afraid of fire places. I've seen that before.
