Having read as many tutorials as I could find on the subject, I've only come so far in my current modding project. Inexperienced, yes. Ignorant, yes. And probably a little bit retarded. But that will not stop me, if I can get some help from my favorite knowledgeable gibbits, and the mod squad. What I'd like to do is take an existing social sim/pet animation, and apply it to a different group. I've got it all planned out... though I've been fiddling with my CT-Object Menu, and without a 'SimPE for Braindead Morons' approach I get lost easily reading instructions. That said, I'm unfamiliar with coding strings, values, whatnot. I'm in need of some patient assistance.

Curse my appropriate forum behavior. I don't think many people visit subdivisions.

Most people learn by observation, and there are the few who learn by experimentation. And then there are those who actually TOUCH the fire to see if it's really hot.

Perhaps I'm not specific enough. I need someone with a good degree of patience and know-how to explain to me step-by-step the workings of this tutorial and this one too. Unfortunately they're not all that user-friendly for noobs. My aim is to take a social that already exists between two parties, and make it available to a separate group. Halp? <3

Not wanting to explain things you have already worked out, and equally not planning to re-write the tutorial as not expert in socials, what is it that you are stuck on so far. Did you get so far through the instructions and then get stuck one bit? If so what bit? Maybe I'll be able to assist that way?

I've gotten as far as isolating the SocialDownloadTest, cloning and changing the guid. I'm stuck in limbo right here. After that, the instructions are very non-specific on where to go or what to do. It's programmer's language pretty much. I am far from. Also, thank you for replying. I so appreciate it.

It looks like the next step in the description "Edit the SetResult, Interaction Person A, Interaction Person B bhavs." is deliberately vague because this is where you put your creativity - the tutorial can't tell you what to do because it depends what you want to do. What is it you want your social to do?

Or have you done that and are stuck on creating a controller?

Is that ebruere's notes you're following? If so, I'd recommend choosing a different base object - the Social Download Test had some nasty changes made to it to stop it from showing up in game which are a big mess to clean up. If you want a fairly clean, neat social plugin to clone, try Marvine's "dance animation" base - http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=239415

Mm, I'm probably out of my league here. Until someone makes a 'Peg A goes into Slot B' type tutorial, I think I shall remain lost. Perhaps my fault, I can't interpret simple commands, being undereducated. At least I've got a start..

I think maybe you jumped in a bit too deep is all. Try starting with some more 'hand-holding' type BHAV tutorials, like this one: http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=142907
and then the more advanced stuff might make more sense.
