I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this...my sims are just so ugly! If I put lippy on them they go in game & look like they have smudged it. Can anyone tell me if it is me or if they look like this anyway...is there a way of improving this. My PC is Core 2 Quad 9400 (2.66), 4gb RAM, GTX260 (216 Core), 640gb HD. Thanks, Zen |

Are your graphics all set to high? (If your PC can handle them?) |

The way textures are rendered in-game is not as high quality as in CAS, regardless of your graphics settings, so if that's what you're experiencing, it's inevitable. If you're concerned about the amount of control you're having over your sims' looks, you can do a search for slider mods... there are several mods that adjust slider range and even add new sliders, so you can get a lot more control. |

Hi...all the graphics settings are high as my card can def handle them. If I can take a screenshot how do I post that here? Srikandi:- I noticed that. My sims look lovely in CAS but in game they are poo! But I am sure I have seen better looking sims in other users screenshots. That was what I was asking about! I was wondering if I needed to change the setting on my graphics card. I have always left them as factory but is there something I need to tweak to get it to look better. Also I also play TR Underworld and that looked awesome & was FAST! The Sims 3 requires a lot less then TRU which is what I don't understand. The load times are pretty fast though (much faster than my old PC) Sorry to gabble on, just want to make sure I am getting it all set up right. |

I have an ATI card, and I noticed that allowing the graphics settings to override the game default does improve in-game rendering. I also think it is mainly the lighting as opposed to the textures themselves which improves the appearance of sims because CAS has practically perfect lighting and in similar environments, my sims do look like CAS quality.... |

The Sims can bring a high-performance computer to its knees better than any first person shooter, believe me My impression is that this is because in shooters, since levels are static, a lot of the graphics can be precomputed... for instance, you can calculate ahead of time which surfaces will be hidden in-game so that the engine won't try to render them. In the Sims, since you can enter build mode any time and change the environment without leaving the game, there's no way to optimize rendering in this way. It's either that, or the Sims team don't know how to program a graphics engine You can change your graphics settings from the options menu. Your card should have a control panel app that lets you override the game settings. Having said all that, since it appears your question is a techinical one, you'll probably find more expertise in the Help section http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=551 To post a screenshot, upload it and use the buttons in advanced mode to put a link in your post.

Not quite the same problem...my sim looks great until you zoom in & look at their lips. Lipstick on a sim looks smudged...it don't look as bad as it did on my old PC but boy are these sims fuglyyy! I did try the settings on my Nvidia...some settings wouldn't allow the game to run & I didn't notice any difference in game. I doubt it is the card or set up I have. I may try downloading some alternative replacement skins & eyes (like I had before) and see if they look a little better then. on't know how to fix the cruddy lipstick/makeup issue though. Other then that I quite like the game. Didn't play it long on old PC & am looking to get World Adventures for crimbo for this new PC. I would say my PC specs are low-mid gaming so it should cope with it ok. Zen |

That's ENTIRELY a different problem than what you described. Your computer isn't able to run the game properly and as a result textures are not loaded entirely. The sim looks like crap because the textures aren't loaded at the proper resolution, because doing so immediately is too much for your computer to handle, which is why after a few seconds it gets clearer. Because it actually loaded. |

Oh, I hadn't noticed she posted her specs. No idea, then. But the problem is definitely texture loading. |

the 9600 is a lower spec graphics card than the GTX260...I was wondering if it is anything to do with the quad core...I was thinking about overclocking my quad core to 3.2 (rather than 2.66 like it is now) but I am not sure how to do it & I don't want to crap up my pc... |

Try to force AF in the NVidia control panel, maybe the game is not filtering the textures the proper way. Also, go to "Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\" and delete Options.ini, reload the game, reapply the configs as you like and restart the game. And post the results of course, it would be a great help if you post the screenshots showing off the problem. You say it's just their lips, are running any face skin replacer? |

Since no pictures have been posted, and nobody can see what you are seeing, I am closing this thread. Zenfrog, if you want further help, please post a picture of your problem. |

Feeling like a bit of a chat about creation or just... whatever (not necessarily sims)?
