Default [Beta Test] Translation Tool
Because writing translations with s3pi or other external tools is difficult and not very user friendly, I hereby present you a tool I have written.

There is no tutorial yet, but it should be very simple. Just select your language, open the package, change the texts, and either save it if you want to translate it for personal use/testing or export your translations as a stbl file to send it to the extension author.

It's not totally complete, for example user friendly things like warning you before you quit with unsaved changes do not exist yet, but it is enough for testing so I uploaded it here.

You will need the .Net framework version 3.5, but if you already use s3pe, you should have it already. If not, you can download it here.

Apart from just using it to make translations (please be careful and make backups), I would like you, to test, if it works under different OS (I'm using Windows 7 64 bit) and if you get any issues. If you have suggestions for new features and a better UI, I will of course take them, too.

The source code and a bugtracker can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/s3translate/
But of course you can (and should) report bugs in this thread.

Thanks to Peter L Jones for the s3pi library.

Hmm, das sollte eigentlich nicht passieren. Kannst du mir vielleicht sagen, welchen Mod du übersetzen willst und (falls es nicht offensichtlich ist) was du genau machst?

Edit: Vergiss es, Fehler gefunden.

There is an error when the current language doesn't exist in the current package. In the current version, my tool fails to create the STBL properly.

I hope I can update it soon.

Danke für die Info,

und ich verneige mich vor dir für Deine tollen Mods und Programme. Mit dem hier kann man wenigstens auch Tippfehler koriegieren.

What tool I can use to add new language to package?

In this topic I learned, how to add new absent language to package. After this, it opens in your tool!

Hmm, my tool should be able to automatically add a missing language to a package. (Although it doesn't autmatically add all).

Was there a problem, or did you just didn't tried it?

If there was a problem, could you send me the package (without added language of course)?

Hi.
Thanks you so much!
It's Sweet.

Since it was introduced by "The Sims 3 Info JP" and I download it at once and use it.
I have a lot of MODs to translate into Japanese.

I was a little worrisome.

It is not "Japanses (ja-ja)" but "Japanses (ja-JP)".

Sims 3 locales are a little strange, but it shouldn't really matter. This text is only for display in my tool and is not saved anywhere.

Just doing some research... Is this tool providing everything that is required for editing STBLs? Is there still a need for another STBL editor? It's just that we had written a spec for one some time ago, and Peter has a few days spare and could either be writing one, furthering development of this one (*IF* it needed it and *IF* you (Jonha) didn't want to continue) or whatever.

Later: Well I have finally got round to trying this, and it's pretty good! I think it does everything that is needed, but the slight problem for me is I think I am using a funny font size or resolution, and some of the buttons and labels are missing from my UI or cut off half way.

Is this still being supported/maintained anywhere?

Sorry for the late answer, I'm still maintaining it sorts of, but I haven't released an official version yet because I have not much time at the moment.

The source code is published and open source, so feel free, to create a fork or submit patches to my version. Not sure what causes the font issue, maybe it helps if you can post a screenshot or/and tell me what OS/Theme you use.

Well I could ask Peter to see if he can spot what there is in the controls causing it, and let you know. You may prefer that if you're short of time. It's just one of those basic "too big for the user's resolution" type things that S3PE has suffered from at various times, I am sure.

(is asking how to edit the base game strings)

You can open the gamedata packages with my tool and edit the strings with it, although that will permanently change them and possibly break future game patches etc. You can still use my tool to get the instance numbers of the strings you want to change and then manually insert them into a new STBL.

It may be caused a different dpi setting, possibly my control layout is just very bad as I did it quick an dirty. I could look at it sometime.

And if some of you want to take over the project, feel free to do so. I'm having a job as as programmer so I have a) very few time and b) already write so much code during the day that I don't always want to do this in my free time, too (although I love it).

Ok, Peter has gotten hold of the source, and has managed to compile against our latest library versions. He is willing to try and make the necessary changes to the button sizes/resizing, and has spotted another one or two UI improvements that could be made. If you're definitely happy to have the project "taken over" from you, Peter would do so. With much gratitude to you for having got it pretty much all the way there already!
