I keep trying to see my own posts/threads out of habit and it doesnt work.

I just want to make sure it's an actual error for the site, and not happening to me and me alone. <_<;

Is it just being temporarily disabled, or will it be something that won't be reactivated?

EDIT: I like being able to see all of the post I have made, so I can keep track of things
I have replied to -- incase I need to make other comments or just want to keep track
of issue(s) or threads.

EDIT2: I do realize, that I could subscribe to a board or an individual thread and it will
allow me to keep track of those things, but I don't know if I would want to subscribe to
every thread I have posted in or will post to(when I do).

I can't imagine the server load can be that high when searching has been disabled for two days...not being able to search is a huge pain. Is anyone working on this?

The search was disabled deliberately - the message about high load just gets displayed becuase the search is switched off, not becuase the servers actually do have a high load.

As for working on it - no. I turned it off deliberately to monitor the servers and the site with search turned off. I'll probably turn it back on later in the week sometime, to a limited degree.

Tumblr - Yes, I have a blog. :)

<Corsix> Why 'mod the sims 2' when you can mod 'mod the sims 2'?

Can I ask why? It seems pretty weird to just plain turn the searching function off... Especially when so many users already struggle to find their way around.

I already said why. Read what I said again.

As for weird - no, not really. Not when you consider that you have:

- Google search - Wiki search - Download search - Member search NONE of which are affected by the vBulletin search being off.

But then, I wouldn't expect you to know how users on my site act and which sections are most popular. Believe it or not, search isn't the primary way people find thier way around the site.

Tumblr - Yes, I have a blog. :)

I meant why are you monitoring the servers, and why are you only going to turn it on to a limited degree?

And I know people dont use search, because the forums are littered with people who are in the wrong section or who are asking questions that have been answered 10,000 times. I was just saying that having it off probably isn't helping that. :p

And how do you use google to search for someone's posts? I've never used google for something like that... I still think it's pretty silly to have to go off site to search for something that there's a link to in your profile, though. But it would help a lot to do that, at least.

LOL, you've obviously never worked as a systems & network manager...(I have). Maintenance needs to be done from time to time and it sometimes takes a while.

To search the site using Google, just type into Google your search terms followed by site:modthesims.info

Or hit search -> search Site.

You can search for your posts using Google. Just go to site search and type in your name. I just tried that using my own name and it shows everything clear back to July 2009. To get more results click on repeat the search with the omitted results included.

Most people using this site don't search for thier own posts. It's only people who have posted a LOT who generally need to.

As for why - well, Esmeralda summed it up. Suffice to say that I can and do turn things on and off depending on how I want the site to be running and what I am doing. I monitor the servers every single day to see where I can improve or speed things up. This is all part and parcel of what I do here.

Tumblr - Yes, I have a blog. :)

So...are you saying the post search is forever disabled? You seem to be implying it's "rarely used" and therefore pointless...

Using the google method, again, everything is out of order. There's no way to organize it by date or location or anythuing.

Not being able to search my own posts doesn't really bother me. But, I did get curious and searched my username. I don't have that many posts and only 19 uploads- there was 30 pages of results. I can definitely see where that would confuse and disgruntle someone with alot more result pages than that.

Claeric: When did I ever say it's forever disabled? I'll thank you not to put words into my mouth. Note that I said I'd turn it back on later in the month to a limited degree (ie search for own threads and posts).

Maybe you should actually read what people say, instead of assuming?

Treating the administrator(s)/site owner/moderator(s) as employees (i.e. acting like they are there to server you and you alone) ... or forgetting that this site is being provided 'free of charge', is not a right that you are entitled to; it is a privelege, one which can be taken away...if you tick them off enough...

How would you Google search a certain forum?

I used "Find All Threads Started by" or "Find all post by" regularly and I miss it.
DigitalChaos, could you detail the procedure you've given a little more, please. Thank you.
I've copy/paste [ site:www.modthesims.info inurl:search.php intext:"Threads Started By: %membername%" intext:"Showing results" ] into Google (with replacing membername, of course) but that doesn't seems the correct way of doing it.
