What does it mean when you see this window when trying to recolour a custom object:-

instead of a window like this:-

I have two versions of this piece of custom content, and it used to bring up the subsets correctly but now doesn't. Am trying to work out what I might have messed up in the object from one version to the next.

Cheers
Mog

The recolorabity of the subsets has been lost. This is in three resources: the GMND (tsdesignmodeenabled), the MMAT, and the TXMT. Well the shape is also part of that since it points to the TXMT.

You may have changed a subset name in one of the resources, you may have the texture named incorrectly in one of the resources, if it is a multi-state object then the family string's may be incorrect. If you have used the Fix TGI on a resource then the linking may be incorrect. Also, does the MMAT have the correct GUIDs? If you have changed the GUIDs then you may need to update the MMAT's.

Echo has a lovely picture tutorial about Tutorials:Understanding the Scenegraphwiki. But what does your scenegraph look like when viewing it?

Looking at the Scenegraph reminds me of one of the changes that I made between Version 2 and Version 3 that is probably the cause. I removed the GMND and GMDC and instead referenced the mesh which was reused (since it is a Base Game Mesh). Given your note about GMND, I wonder if SimPE Object Workshop (Open... Button) recolouring method requires a GMND?

I just made a recolour the long-winded way:-
  • Copy package to be recoloured to a new file
  • Delete all resources except TXMT, MMAT and TXTR of subset to be recoloured.
    • In my case there were two recolourable subsets so to work out which I found the TXTR that had the expected image, deleted the other one.
    • Looked to see which TXMT mentioned my one remaining TXTR in the stdMatBaseTextureName property and deleted the other one.
    • Kept the MMAT with the same name as the TXMT.
  • Used the menu Tools->Object Tools->Fix Integrity and gave it a new name and pressed update
  • Carried on as per normal recolor at this point

Recolour works fine in game.
