These two simpocolypse horror stories that people would hate to have happen to them. They are things can't be helped and were most unfortunate.

1: My younger sister force quit the program while it was saving, causing the total annihilation of my neighborhood. (This was years ago, and before I had the idea to back up my files)

2: I ejected the disk and then tripped over the cord so my computer jerked, the disk fell and cracked in half. I didn't want to use a disk crack(the technical kind) since those are kind of janky, I'm on a mac so remedies are limited. I'm handimacced! So I went the whole summer trying to save money for a new disk (MAC ones are 30-40USD and they have to be shipped since stores don't carry it.) It was a whole summer of no sims. Instead I got addicted to the sim music videos/movies on youtube to fill the void

Anyone else have horror stories regarding sims 2?

I almost had a crisis when the power flickered here (the grid we're on, for lack of a better word, sucks). Fortunately my Sim was at a community lot and was just coming home (it was loading his lot) when it happened. Close call!

5 months ago my computer started overheating so I couldn't keep playing The Sims or any games. 5 months later my computer broke and everything inside had to be replaced. Fan, graphics card, sound card, etc. What's worse is I am still waiting for my brother to bring my sound card so I can finally play The Sims 2 (Apparently he's coming on Tuesday).

2nd one: My neighbourhood Destiny Hills had alot of generations in it, however one day Miss C got vamped and I never saw it and saved without knowing, see my sim Destiny had her little workshop (Downtown I think) where she would work on toys and robots, basically never aging until I was finished with her. Even thought I closed the stores vampires and Miss C kept showing up, I dunno why really and stayed around. I started noticing C only came at night so I did a test run and summoned her by Insim during daylight and then I noticed she was smoking and I mean literally. And I realized she was a vampire and vamped long before I saved....

I wanted Bon Voyage, so bad for my game I waited for a very long time to be sure EA, or Maxis work out all the errors in the game with patches. So after a very long time and reading the good and bad about it I went to the store to buy it.

Now before that I have all Eps up to Seasons my game ran Perfect never no problems, my PC is in excellent condition to take even more expansions, rams, graphic card perfect etc.. I went ahead and installed Bon Voyage It became a living nightmare that Ep mess up my whole game destroyed it completely.

I had to uninstalled everything and start over( I forgot to make a backup ) So where is the ep Bon Voyage now ? In a box never to be use a waste of money for me, some people had problems with BV some did not, but I was not one of the lucky ones. I had my whole PC check out by an in home tech person, all was perfect. ( Money spend there as well ) During that period playing my sims was horrible for me, or should I say trying to play them.

When I discovered my neighborhood was doomed. XP

Hey, BV never had any problems for me. I've never had a glitch happen because of it. Weird, huh?

Didn't they start using SecuROM in Bon Voyage? I heard that can really ef up your Winows System.

"Charmful" Yes, Yes I just did not want to say SecuRom, but in "truth it did mess up my PC that one reason why I had a Tech person to come to my home. He remove all hidden Traces of Securom from my PC, plus I had to get a whole new dvd player, for after uninstalling BV the dvd player started making very strange knocking sounds ( From what I have read on the net that is one of the things Securom can do MESS up your DVD player. )

Before that my PC was perfect, After he test everything he told me all was fine after getting rid of that Securom hidden in the REG the tech gave my PC a complete cleaning and I had to have a brand new dvd player installed by the tech. ( He told me other than that my PC was perfect ) the tech told me I was among a long line of people who played the sims that had this problem.

All because of SECUROM. As I said in the other post before adding BV I never had no problem NEVER. My PC was perfect Until I add that EP.

That is one reason Why I stop at the Seasons Ep and will NOT add another I got all my expansions packs way before EA or Maxis started adding the SecuRom to their games. It was horrible my game was so mess up with Bon Voyage just terrible.

That's so very unfortunate and unfair! I'm getting Seasons soon and that's it for me. Though I don't know if SecuRom terrorizes all different computers and Os's-or only PC's. Still Seasons is the last expansion I think will complete my game.

i think the wordst thing that happened to me was either the time i had been playing for a long time without saving, and my friends 6 year old sister shut the computer off, or the time i left the game open for while without playing, and everything turned white except for sims and furniture

it eventually fixed itself though (i know it looks like it snowed, but all that furniture was under a roof, and i didnt even have seasons then!)

About a year ago I'd been playing TS2 happily for few months, when the game suddenly refuced to open at all. It gave an error about graphic card and back then I didn't know what to do with it. Luckily I have a friend that knows alot about pc's and stuff, so with her help I got a better graphic card. That sounds really minor now, I know... But the sadest thing is, that before I realized it was a GC-problem, I uninstalled and re-installed the whole game. Of course I didn't know about backup's back then... So I lost all my sims and hoods

I downloaded SimPE and Milkshape, trying to make some meshes. When I entered SimPE, being the little Tech Nerd I am, I decided to go...do stuff. I brought back Bella Goth, restored her relationship with her family, and put her in the Goth house-hold. THEN, I made all the families uber rich. I did a whole bunch of things till it was almost midnight and I had to quit. I hadn't played my game at all that day, which made me mad. The next day, I had to go to church and my grandparent's (my father was going out of town). I forgot to bring the External CD Drive with me, so my laptop was virtually useless (my WiFi was useless for some reason). It's okay, though, they had a PS2, a PS3 and an X-box (my uncle and cousin live there too.) Anyways, back on topic. So, for three whole days, I played no Sims 2, and was dieing of obsession starvation, as I call it. I DID have time to download a mod that I thought was cool when I got home, unaware that it was still in testing (i never download stuff that's in testing, just in case). Well, it was Friday Morning when I finally opened the CD case and turned on my game. I went straight to the Goths, who i'd never played before, except on my mom's computer, before I got my laptop. Before it even left the loading screen, an error came up. You know that Error that shows up if you click 'Force Error' from the menu using boolProp? Yeah, I got that right off. It was for Bella. I freaked out, clicking reset. Then the same error came up; for Mortimer. I did reset over and over again, till it was useless. I just clicked DELETE on all of them. The only Sim left on the lot was Alex, who was suddenly picked up by the Social Worker, hence giving me the depressing dialog that happens when the last Sim on the lot is a child being taken to an orphanage. I quit my game without saving, entered again, and tried the Caliente sister. Same thing. Every family was the same. I finally just made a back-up of my Downloads folder and reinstalled my game. Then I replaced my downloads folder, enabled Custom Content, and entered the Goth household again. The same thing happened. It was only then that I realized it must have been something I downloaded. I told my brother this, and the next thing I know, my downloads folder is completely empty. >

Oh yeah, I also made these two college Townies WooHoo in a hot-tub (plain woohoo) and the lullaby played, signalling she was prego. I actually thought it was MY female sim, so I had her move out, rent a house and marry her boyfriend before I realized it was the townie who was pregnant. -facedesk-

Sometimes I'll be playing TS2 for a really long time, and I usually don't save before I exit the game. My Sims were doing really well in college, and they were about to graduate. And, of course, I usually end up playing the game on rainy days. Well, this storm that hit us had hurricane force winds although it was supposed to be some normal cold front, and before I knew it, the power went out. I lost everything. The frustrating part was that the power was only out for a second or two. And this happens all the time. Rain or shine. Power goes out. Everything's gone.

...I should probably save my game more often. :'D

OMG, I use to do that too! That is, until my brother blew a fuse, causing me to lose everything I was doing. Neither of us will be making that mistake again. :D

And she hadn't done anything different previously? Because I remember having all my sims gone one time, but t was because the files were backed up for the base game plus NL. I had my computer wiped because I installed more memory. At that time, I only installed the base game so when I went in to play all the houses were there but all sims were gone, but after momentarily freaking out, I realized that I needed to install the NL expansion too - which I didn't have at the time because my disk had broken and I needed a new one.

My game started crashing. It would load up to the menu screen and then it's crash. I figured it was something I downloaded, so I deleted all my recent downloads. It still crashed. Then I decided to delete all of my downloads. It still would not load. So I had to uninstall the entire game and re-install it. And then my hard drive crashed....

But now I re-installed it on my laptop and its fine now

My neighborhood dissappeared one day.... just vanished I searched the MTS2 forums about it and found that other ppl had the same issue and no one could figure it out. They were just trying to get us to describe what it was like before it happened so they could find similarities and hopefully a cause. But I had to start all over

I have a similar situation to the disappearing neighborhoods happen to me at least two or three times a year. I have had this since 2006, and no ... this isn't related to deleting from the Sim Bin. I installed another Sims 2 on my other computer and NEVER deleted from the Sim Bin ... and I still get this problem. Sometimes, it's due to something on my computer doing ... something ... to my game. Other times, it's harder to find a reason. I find that there is always a small chance of this happening whenever I install a major update or new hardware, so I try to back up at least on the desktop every time I know I have to do this. But sometimes, unpredictable things happen.

The main thing is to regularly back up, problems or updates or not. Losing a week or a month is bad; losing months and years is worse.

I've had so many Sims scares that my post would be way too long. I think the worst would be the screen blacking out at random times and my computer shutting down when I played the game. For a while, I wasn't sure of the problem, since for a while, this happened ONLY when I played the Sims 2 ... no other time. Was my game permanently borked? (Turned out that my brand-new NVIDIA 9600 GT card was one of that infamous faulty lot that unfortunately, I wouldn't have known about at the time I bought it.)

Or would it be when the techie installed that card in the first place? Something weird happened and the game went vanilla. (Back to that issue again ...) I had a very old backup from Pets, so I used that and managed to save 75% of my game, but my Riverblossom went poof! In the past, when this happened, I could use System Restore and get my old neighborhood back, but the techie deleted all my restore points.

Backing up is much, much better than a System Restore. Trust me on this one.

Or the time I loaded my neighborhood, and it looked like a thick gray fog descended on Pleasantview? It did lift, but it was scary.

Or the time I had my disappearing Sims that never DID come back?

Or that wonderful feeling in the pit of your stomach whenever your game crashes for what seems to be no apparent reason? I had that happen last month. I realized later that ... well ... there WAS a reason. Just not a easily apparent one. Good thing I didn't post the problem on the Help boards, because I would have probably had received a scolding.

Wait. This game IS supposed to be relaxing ... right?

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.
