What exactly are factors of writing a great novel? I know that creativity skill counts, but that's about it. Does sim's mood while writing, film & literature enthusiasm or plot matters to get that bestseller?

So far my sim has written two novels and despite sims max enthusiasm and creativity skill they netted only around 2000 $ each. Those two did counted as successful books tho. Am I missing something or novel writing really isn't profitable at all.

Is it possible to write a novel you could sell for at least 5000 $. If it is how?

As I know bestsellers are somewhere between 2000$ and 2500$, maybe a bit more.

I you just want to make money by writing and don't mind not to have the novels in the bookcase to discuss, try pleasure as first or secondary aspiration and spend some points at this aspiration to give them the option to write a restaurant guide. With enough cooking skills your sim will get the same amount for one guide as for a novel, but the guides are much faster to write (one or two per day).

I think Great Novel also has a random element, giving it a slim chance. After all, the chances in real life that you will write something considered a great novel are slim to none.

Practice also counts. The more novels you write the more likely each one is going to be worth a lot. I had a hacked computer that was letting a sim write novels a a breakneck speed, and each one was worth a bit more, even after his creativity was maxed out and he was perma-plat.

I am Ghost. My husband (who made the account because I was too shy) is sidneydoj. I post, he downloads, and I wanted to keep my post count.

There is indeed a hidden Writing skill coded into the game. I don't have FT so I don't know if Hobby Enthusiasm affects novel payouts, but I've had a sim who I used Treeag's Book of Knowledge on to max his Writing and Creativity. His first novel gave something like §13,000~. So previous experience can make a HUGE difference.

Base novel payout for Creativity 10 is 2200-3200. Each finished novel increases that amount by 100 for up to 100 books so you can get up to a 10,000 bonus if you are a very prolific (and long-lived) author. It's not affected by anything else like hobby enthusiasm, plot, mood, aspiration level, etc.

On my site I have dozens more Sims 2 mods. These mods come with no support so use them at your own risk.

Oh that's a bit disappointing. I kinda hoped that literature will be a bit more sophisticated then pottery :/
Thanks for your help.

But how about hidden witting skill others mentioned here? Is there such thing at all?

The hidden writing skill is just a count of your previous novels, so that's where the 100/novel pay bump comes in.
