cassslas1996, have you any idea on the lead-time required to do something as complex as an entirely new Sims-style game?

Well cassslas1996 as GeneralOperationsDirector said it takes a long time to create a new game..
TS3 was in development since 2004...
They have mentioned it in an interview.

Been a long time.. but i'm back in town.

Windows 8 is ready to be released.

These things are in production WAY in advance.

Does reading dumb signatures make you feel powerful in some way?

Could be. They don't announce it this early though, usually. And they do begin working on it once the base game is out.

speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Besides, they're only just developing a new expansion. If they are developing a fourth Sims game, there'd have to be a major amount of employees AND sims 3 is a huge game on it's own base, how many computers do these guys think we have?

Sigh. This is one of the biggest misconceptions on these forums.

If, or when, The Sims 4 is in development the team will consist of a lot of people who didn't work on The Sims 3. Also, as a business EA will be allocating certain jobs, there are people working on Patches, others on downloads for the site. There is either the patches we currently get, plus everything else and The Sims 4 being made...or everything we currently get and no Sims 4. There is no 'faster patch production' alternative. Ea works on expected financial outcomes, not pleasing the fanbase just for the pure act of pleasing. If they did that it would be to make money.

It would be logical that they would have people working on TS3 patches and EPs while having a team developing the next stage since development can take years and Ts3 will probably have a couple more years of EPs Stuff Packs and patches. There could always be crossover of personnel in the TS3 And TS4 Teams. However, with the speed that technology is changing, as are people's playing habits, I think the tradiitonally long lead time might prove more challenging than before in terms of development.

Also the person could have just twittered that for hits.

EPs are developed around 6 months to a year in advance of official announcements. That's why there aren't MORE bugs. Trust me, any EPs that will be released at least within the next year are long completed.

It does seem pretty soon, but I wouldn't get too excited, Sims 3 just came out! It's not like I'll have time to play, anyway. :P

Effectively completed. As in, the game mechanics are laid out and complete. If Ambitions leaked now, we might nevertheless not have the full build, even though it would most likely, broadly speaking, work.

I would be surprised if EA was NOT working on Sims 4, at least at a rough design level, but I would also be VERY surprised if EA employees were allowed to twitter about what they're doing at work :/ I have a friend who was working at EA (Canada) as an intern, and he was not even allowed to discuss the game he was working on with other EA employees on different projects int he same building.

So yeah. If that guy's for real, he's in trouble :p

Hmmmm I'm a bit doubtful : /

But I agree with Srikandi, if it's true, that guy did not make the greatest decision right there...

Same. It isn't even a well-written post, Tweet or not. I don't buy that he's actually working on it. Wouldn't surprise me that EA might be, though.

I like the idea of there being another Sims game in the works, for the main fact by all accounts it should get more and more real to play. But I'm not going to start getting excited about something that will probably take 5 years to come out, I have other exciting things in my life to worry about between now and then .

Speaking as someone who has worked in the professional I.T industry and someone who has corporate management experience, I can tell you this much. Somewhere inside of EA on a computer there is a "CONCEPT" for the sims4. I am sure they have people in a think tank type of atmosphere with basic ideas, however the sims4 will most likely not even start being more than a concept until the sims3 has been milked for everything they can get out of it, both from a technical standpoint and a financial standpoint. When a company makes a sequel to a game (especially something as big as the sims) they tend to want to play to the strengths of their past successes while at the same time making us go "ooh..ahh" at their new product. That is how money is made.

Bottom Line:
1. Do not expect to see sims4 anytime soon, at least 3 more years before we even hear an announce date.
2. Expect to see at least 5 more EP's for the sims3.
3. Sims4 will be based off what is or is not successful with the sims3.

Getting way, way, way ahead...do you think there will be a Sims 5?

I mean, where do you think The Sims will stop? It's already hugely successful, and there's still a lot of money to be made...but when do you think it just won't be worth it anymore - for EAxis and the fans?

Does reading dumb signatures make you feel powerful in some way?

I'd imagine, based on his portfolio on his site, that if he's not completely full of shit (a strong possibility - anyone working for or even in contact with EA has to sign a boatload of nondisclosure agreements), he's probably just doing concept art.

Well. . . SquareEnix has had how many versions of FinalFantasy (up to 14 soon to be in open beta in US). EA probably has 4 developed and evolving and are prolly doing concept work on 5. . . along with the staff of "stuff and EP" folks working on 3. . . For me the bottom line is: is it fun? and if so how long will it hold my interest before either it becomes boring or begins to feel like a second job?

I don't think they would get into trouble for letting people know work has started on Sims 4. We learnt about Sims 3 at around this point in Sims 2, and that was EA having signs about it on the offices dealing with it, and letting sims 2 players see those signs when they went there for some creator camp or similar.
