I cloned Dr Pixels skillmotor and made a version with a whole car. Since the motor object had only two subsets/TXMTs I needed to add a third for the glass part. I did so following IgnorantBliss' tutorial (link) I imported the new TXMT from the original car so its settings should be all right. I renamed the TXMT and added an entry to the Shape part, like explained in the tutorial, but the glass is still flashing blue. Can someone take a look and maybe find what I'm missing, please? |

Without looking at your file- is the TXMT and SHPE the only things you changed? If so, you need to add a MMAT too. When you add a new subset, you need to add the TXTR, MMAT, TXMT and the entry in the SHPE for it. If you want your subset to be recolorable, you have to enable it in the GMND too. Although if your object already has 2 recolorable subsets, you won't be able to do that since there can only be 2 recolorable subsets. (Unless one or both of those is slaved to another object, then you can enable your new subset in the GMND.) |

Are you sure? The original car has three mesh parts and only one MMAT for the body. Which backs up my thinking that MMATs are only neccessary for parts that shall be recolorable. Anyway, I cloned one of the MMATs and changed the "name (dtString)" and "subsetName (dtString)" to match the new subset. But that didn't fix it. There's also a "family (dtString)" that is different for each MMAT with a long number. I didn't find that anywhere else and so just changed the last letter. But still blue flashing. I updated the first post with the new file.

MMATs are only needed to make it recolorable and not for it to display its texture, and for glass on a car unnecessary. The family string in a mmat is unique for each MMAT and you can generate a new hash by using the hash generator. The problem as I see it is the name in your added TXMT on the cMaterialDefinition tab. It is vpn.pa25.universal_glass whereas it should be dpxl.042207skillmotor-garagecar-[psychosim-18.5.2010-2b27]_glass. So a quick Fix Integrity did make that all better, only the car crashes my game then. :/

Not quite sure how, but it seems to be fixed: ![]() I tried various things- all of which caused my game to crash at "overwaxing banisters". The last 2 things I tried were adding "stdMatBaseTextureName"..but I forgot to add a texture, lol (and glass doesn't need it anyway, I was just trying it to try it)..and playing with your mesh in MilkShape. I did notice that the glass mesh and parts of one of the other meshes were black- so I did a smooth all and replaced your mesh with that one. I also noticed that your file names didn't always match- there were a few instances where there was a "-", which I changed. However, at that point it still crashed my game. Kind of odd I think. But the attached version does seem to work- no flashing blue.

Thank you both! I didn't know about the cMaterialDefinition tab, just changed the name. And the "-" and "_" should be the same since I always used copy+paste. I will examine the new version and see which part actually fixes the problem and what's up with the crashing. ![]() EDIT: Ok, the change in cMaterialDefinition fixed it. And it works fine for me. Would you please check if this version makes your game crash?

So this one didn't crash my game! lol Of course now it does only have one recolorable part where the other had two. This is because the instance numbers of the matte and glass are the same, so just change the instance number on the glass to one higher or delete it. I deleted it and no crash and both subsets are recolorable again. So the question is what else did you change? I see you put a new TXMT in since it has a different instance number (I had tried that too but still it crashed). I never looked at the mesh like MLC did, but at one point when I changed something before I had black glass. I thought it was linking but I bet it was the smoothing on the glass. |

That's good. The superflous MMAT is already deleted now. Hm, I didn't change anything besides correcting the name in cMaterialDefinition. Don't even know where I find that "instance number". And the glass part is always black for me in SimPE but it's right in game.

Something I don't quite understand? The name in the cMaterialDefinition tab that HL pointed out? That was not the name I saw there. Everything began with "drpxl". The mesh I looked at was version 2- had it been changed in that one? As for the "-" .. the only reason I changed any of those is that some names had it and some didn't. I just made them all the same. I thought it was the linking and none of the things I changed worked (crashing stopped but the glass still flashed) which is why I looked at the mesh. If anything I did to the .package helped I'm glad it did.

Nope, version 2 wasn't changed that way, I just checked again. Are you sure you looked at the right place? It says "vpn.pa25.universal_glass" in the glass TXMT under the cMaterialDefinition tab. |

The version I have is the way I said, except its "dpxl", not "drpxl". (typo!) Come to think of it, I think "fix integrity" is the first thing I tried and since I saved the changes, I reckon that's why I never saw the other one. |
