I've just installed The Sims 3 on my boyfriends mac, and it installed fine, I downloaded the patch and installed that as well. The game booted up, loaded up the loading screen fine. But when it got to the start of it, it said that it couldn't authorize the authenticy of the disc, or something. Why is this? It's a genuine game bought from a shop, and has worked on a mac and a pc before. What's the problem here? |

Are you starting the game via Launcher? Have you tested if you get the same error when you bypassed it (see StickyTip)? |

The game works, but then on some occasions when I load it up, the message comes up again, but then when I restart the game, it's fine. Yes I am starting the game up via the launcher, is that why I'm having problems? It's okay because it does work, but I would like to know why it says a disc auth. error. Thanks. |

According to EA, this happens when you have peripherals plugged in. Have you tried the Mac-specific suggestions in https://easims.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...p?p_faqid=22234? |

There's nothing else plugged into the mac, and very little on it because it's recently been formatted. And I just had an error when loading up the game that it couldn't even read that there was a disc there. And that link hasn't worked for me. |

Sorry, an ? in the link; corrected now. Can the disc be read on another machine? Can the Mac read other discs? |

Give booting up from Cider a shot. What kind of mac is it, and does it have any other issues with reading CDs? There are a few behaviours of Macs that can make them a bit tetchy with CDs sometimes - have you ever noticed that you can have officially 'ejected' a CD so that the device doesn't show up on your desktop or anything, but the CD itself is still in the drive? I think that has to do with the way OS X views CDs, the same way it views USB drives. I would make sure that your Mac is registering that the CD is inserted before you launch. Check that by seeing whether there is an icon for the CD on the desktop, or in your finder sidebar. If there is and you're still getting the issue, then the prob is within the game. I always check Mac issues first, then game issues |
