i'm having my mom call around some stores to see if they've gotten the game yet. from what i understand, the game was shipped either wednesday or thursday, so the game should be arriving at stores now. i also understand that they aren't put on the shelves until the release date on tuesday. i'm thinking that if she called and they had the game in, and we went they would still sell us the game early. that's what i'm hoping. i'm sure they won't turn down our money. ![]() what about you guys?

You can look, but I doubt you will find it. Publishers set "street dates" for things like this, and retailers who sell before the street date can find themselves in hot water with the publisher -- it's a breach of their contract, So it is unlikely that anyone with any management responsibility would sell it before the street date. What you are hoping for is that some idiot employee, who is just being paid minimum wage, sticks on on the shelf without knowing what they are doing, and their boss doesn't see them do it. Probably the best chances of this happening would be some big box store which does not pay well and which has lousy managers. But, if you thing about it, the marketing people at EA really screwed this one up. When is the best time to release a new program? Before the Memorial Day holiday, when people have a three day weekend to go to stores and play games, or after the holiday, when everyone is back at work with no time to shop or play games. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! |

It looks like Eaxis took a little extra time on this one to make sure that most (if not all) of the expansion pack works properly, particularly after all of the issues they had with WA. I don't mind a later release date at all, provided the game operates as it should. And yes, I preordered through MTS's Amazon link this morning. My estimated ship date is June 2, which means it will likely be here by the third (Amazon has a distribution center not far from my house. It's within about 40 miles or so.) |

Like tj said, if they know what they're doing, they'll turn down your money, because they can face thousands of dollars in fines if they sell it early. And these days games have tracking info on em, so EA actually can find out exactly what store broke the rules :/ It sounds draconian, but I think the main concern for the game companies is piracy. If pirates can get hold of the game and put it up for free before most people can buy it, players have an additional motivation to pirate it, resulting in lost sales. |

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I am in the panhandle of Idaho, and Amazon has both their HQ and a large warehouse in the Seattle area... about 6 hours' drive from here, for those not familiar with the geography of this part of the world. According to FedEx, my copy of Ambitions is coming from Scottsdale, AZ, which (again, for the overseas folks) is about as far south in the US as I am north. |

usually, i would just wait until tuesday but the fact that ea released their own game to pre-orderers early.. really threw me off. that's why i thought it would be possible to get the game now, if it arrived at the stores. if it's of any difference... around the time of the sims 3 release, newegg.com's copy was shipped to my house one or two days earlier than the release date. i would think that it wouldn't be so much of a big deal if it were only a day or two early. |

I checked a couple places. One wouldn't sell it, the other didn't have it, and I pre-ordered at one, since they mentioned how bad sales for PC games were at that store. =P |

They didn't release the game early but they did miscalculate. They sent it out on Thursday, knowing that with two day shipping, the weekend and a holiday, that the item wouldn't be delivered until Tuesday. But what they forgot is that some people who happen to live near the warehouses might get it in one day. So they goofed. It would have been a lot smarter for them to set the release date on a non-holiday weekend. I don't mind so much since at least now we know there are minimal issues with this EP compared to WA. I can wait until Tuesday.

i can't seem to think of any more places. the game crazy's where i live are shutting down. target won't sell it, and best buy has it but won't sell it. there's really nowhere else to try, at least i don't think. maybe my request was a little more irrational then i thought, one girl even mentioned it was 'illegal' to sell games before the release, but then again i'm asking for it two days before the release, not a week or so. i guess i was really determined to do this, mainly because i know i won't be home until at least 5 pm on tuesday, and i really wanted a chance to check the game out while i'm on break. nobody can really blame me for that. at least, i hope not.anyway, that is my report. if anybody else wants to try, or maybe name a few places you can. but for now it's pretty much a lost cause. |

I wish I could but since the game shops around where I live (UK) are strict, I'll have to wait till the fourth. Oh well ... |

It's not illegal in the criminal sense, but it is in the contractual sense. And how would you feel if you talked a badly-trained employee into selling it to you, and then they lost their job? :/ I admit that I thought about making a few phone calls myself, but then I started contemplating the ethics of it, and decided that even if I found somebody who'd sell it to me, I wouldn't want that responsibility, especially not in this economic climate :/ |

I can understand calling early for a Sims 3 game, but not an expansion. If you've hyped up an expansion so much that you can't wait a few days, I fear that you're going to be disappointed. |

Speak for yourself, hon I find that with each EP, for a few weeks, it's like having a brand new game.

i was looking that up online before i called, and the same thing was said about the contract. but i also honestly wasn't about to talk anybody into selling it to me anyway- especially if they knew it was illegal, regardless of in what sense. but i have to say, i would feel pretty horrible about that though. i'd rather have them keep their job, than get the game early. so i definitely agree with you there. ![]() oh.. and there was another thing i forgot to mention, about how on earth the developers would find out causing trouble to ensue.. i was just thinking before that there might not be very many people in my area at least, asking for that specific game early. so one or two sales would be harmless, right? then again, i don't know everything about it. |

Not me. I'm going to wait till Tuesday and pick it up at my local gamestop were I have it preorded. I have the guide now so that will tide me over till Tuesday. It's almost 1 day left here in the US. I wonder if their going to put up an ambitions picture thread in the picture section. Last I checked they haven't yet. I'm on vacation this week so I'll have the whole week to play. I hope there isn't any game breaking bugs like blue lots issues. |

The cash register's a computer, and every bit of inventory's path through the system is tracked every step of the way these days. Just like when you order something from UPS and you can look up online exactly where it is at any given moment. |

When you register the EP (you were gonna register, right?) the software sends your CD key (that long line of random numbers and letters they make you type in to install it) to EA. This allows them to keep multiple users from registering the same key. It's also quite possible--though I am not sure if they are doing this--for EA to track which keys get sent to which retailers. If a bunch of keys that were sent to, say, The Corner Computer Store in Sunset Valley started to show up as registered a day or two before the official release date, EA might just get suspicious. |

Some lucky people who ordered from EA already have the game. I may preorder the next expansion pack from them. They used next day delivery so they had to pay a little more. |

if i worked for EA, i wouldn't be offended at people trying to buy my game early. HONESTLY?? and no, i wasn't planning on registering my game. that just means it shows up on the sims 3 website, right? i've stopped registering games because it takes extra time and it's not really worth it. that makes a lot of sense though, Srikandi and GeekDavid. thank you for helping me out.
