I'm running a clean base copy of TS3. No expansion, no mods, no CC, nothing. Everything was working last night. Today, I booted the computer and installed EA's new patch. Now, I can't load my saved game. I get the non-helpful message "A serious error has occurred" and it kicks me back to the opening screen. I can start a new game... but I don't WANT to start a new game.

I've wasted 3 hours tonight trying to get it working. I've followed all the steps I can find - deleting caches, removing the whole user files directory (then adding the Save folder, since the whole problem is that I want to access the saved game). I've tried restoring the save file from backup. I've rebooted. The only thing I haven't done yet is a full uninstall/reinstall. I'll do that tomorrow after work.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any way to roll back this patch? In hindsight, I guess I should have made a full backup before loading the patch, but it's too late for that now. Is there something I'm missing?

I now see other messages about saved games not loading, but they seem related to custom content. I guess if reinstalling doesn't work, I'll just have to suck it up.

Hmmm, you have pretty much answered all the proper questions yourself Unfortunately you are correct with the things you pointed out.
