This is something I'm wondering about recently. I think that it's currently been renewed through until season three. Do you think they should go on after that? Could they go on after that? Being English, I'm not entirely sure of how American High Schools work, I think they're all sophomores aren't they, so they only have two years of high school left = two more seasons? Or maybe they'll make more with different characters?

Anyway, in England we tend to have shorter running TV series with shorter seasons, with some shows wanting to end on a high, before they can be cancelled, or people get fed up of them.

So, I've been wondering recently how long can Glee go on before it's just more of the same. They've done sectionals and regionals, so I guess there's nationals (again my lack of knowledge about American stuff means I don't really know where clubs would go from there - Internationals? ) Would they just defend their national title like the cheerios? Don't get me wrong, I *love* it, it's mixed hilarious with some really heart-warming stuff. But I think it would be awful if it went on for too long and got cancelled when ratings drop, y'know basically end up like Heroes. Anyway, I think I've said enough and hopefully it makes sense, over to you guys. What do you lot think?

I suppose that it could go on after they all leave high school, and introduce a new cast (although I don't know what I'd do without my beloved New Directions) and continue doing this...
I always thought that Rachel was the youngest, considering she was apparantly 14 throughout the first 13 episodes (her birthday is in December of 1994), and a Sophomore/year 10, while the others were Juniors/year 11's, seeing as Kurt is 16 (Sue asked him in Laryngitis and he said yes) and I'm sure that some of the others have said they were also the same age.

Anyway, there's not going to be a Nationals 2010 episode, seeing as they failed miserably at Regionals, however it's been confirmed that season 2 will end at Nationals 2011 in New York.

Like I said, they can replace the cast when they're supposed to leave high school, they could bring some of them back as teachers/coaches for the newbies, or they could change the focus of the show and make it so it's about the original group and their struggles to stardom in the world... I don't know. I'm just hoping it doesn't die out in season 25 or something ridiculous like that, like other TV shows have. (Will & Grace, Friends)

They could probably do something like what they did for Degrassi - start over with a new generation, a few of the characters persisting as adults (can anybody see Finn as the next Mr. Shue? ) and from the looks of D:TNG, I think they kept with Emma and the gang into college rather than end like they did for the original. I don't know exactly, I didn't keep up with Next Gen.

Am I totally showing my age spots now? People do remember the Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High shows, right? We used to watch those in Health class, .

I know that there were open casting calls because one of my friends auditioned and told me to vote for her on myspace. I'm not quite sure of when they will introduce the new characters tho...

I think they've confirmed that there's at least one new student joining New Directions in Season 2 (who, if I'm reading correctly, is supposed to give Rachel a run for her star-tastic money). Naya Riviera (Santana) and Heather Morris (Brittany) have been signed on for next season for sure, but no word on the actors for Mike and Matt.

I hope they don't get rid of Mike - even though he says, like, nothing, he's ADORABLE!

I really don't know whether I could watch it with other characters in it. I probably would end up watching it, and then just moan about how it's gone downhill (like I did with Heroes.)

I'd heard that there is going to be three new characters next season, I think through the open casting calls.

I thought one was supposed to be

And I completely lost you with the Degrassi thing, but I'm guessing it wasn't shown in England.

Now that I think about it, Degrassi IS a Canadian-produced and -run show (it was aired by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation - CBC, though MTV has picked up Next Generation, and apparently the BBC ran most of it). The original series ran somewhere around the late 1980s, early 1990s, and focused on a class of kids growing up (started with them around 8th grade - 13/14 years old - and followed them through the high school's closure around junior year - 16/17 years old. I think the series ended before they'd actually graduated). Health classes loved it because they had life lessons - drug addictions, alcoholism, abuse, teen pregnancy, abortion, etc. Best day ever, when the teachers announced that "there's a Degrassi episode for that".

Oh, God, the theme song was annoyingly catchy. I personally thought the new series (which started in early 2000s) was a bit stretched. I mean, the original touched on almost everything at one point or another. They managed to get back a couple of the old teen actors to play their same roles - one kid grew up to be the principal in the new series, one of the new class is the daughter of an old actress (whose teen pregnancy/teen motherhood arc kept going through most of the original series), a couple of the others come and go.

Wikipedia article, RAYOR (Read at Your Own Risk, I'm not verifying how exact the information is):

That might explain why I don't know what it is, I wasn't born until 1991, which according to imdb (I think got the right one) was the year that it ended.

LOL I was born in 1988, so I didn't even start watching until around 2001, 2002. Maybe we Canucks are just weird and enjoy watching old shows for school. I found Degrassi episodes on Youtube... It's created a monster - it's just hilarious to watch them again!

I remember Degrassi...
Well not the original one, but the Next Generation series.

Oh, and there are supposed to be three new glee clubbers next season, a footballer who starts dating Kurt, a Christian girl who's against Kurt's homosexuality and also gives Rachel a run for her money, and a third unknown person.

ForeverCamp: I'm older than you, but I've never watched Degrassi. Maybe it's just more popular in Canada. XD

Draik12: That sounds like fun--do you have a source for it?

I'd heard the same about Kurt's boyfriend and also about the three new characters. I think I read it on imdb, and I'm sure the quote about Kurt's boyfriend was from Ryan Murphy himself. I'll try and find it.

EDIT: Not found it yet, but this article (about Glee movies) is quite interesting.

EDIT 2: Okay, found this article from sky and this one from EW which also says about nationals in season 2.

From the comments below Becca's first link:

Quote:
I'd agree that Glee is suffering from overexposure if the stars just signed contracts to do movies, but these provisions were agreed to before the pilot even aired. The fact that the news is just now breaking adds to the hype, but the actual actions don't.

Also, as a straight man in his late 20s who likes the show, I'm a little miffed that some people automatically think Glee fans are young girls or gay men. Some people needed to stop being so close-minded (looking at you Indysteve1227).

TL | June 18, 2010 8:13 PM

Seriously, how many of us are gay men or 13-year-old girls?

Woo! Thanks for the links, and hooray for Kurt getting a boyfriend. I want him to be happy.

You're welcome.

ForeverCamp I don't know, it's hard to tell, maybe we need another poll? The current results of the other say that there are more 12-17 year old's than 18+. Though I think I've said this before, my younger brother watches the show and he's 16 and straight. All the girls at his school think he's cool because he watches it (he's not like a crazy huge fan though) I'm not sure if any of his friends do.

Yeah, but out of those 12-17, how many are on the younger end of the spectrum (12-14) and how many are on the older end (15-17)? Seems to me like the majority of those who gave us more info in that other poll are 16/17.

"Glee Guys Get Girls". It'll be the new straight-man alliterative anthem.

The thing is though he says "there was a broken limb or two." Is he joking? Or was it just cos the girls were dancing in heels maybe?

I thought the VA cast looked a little... diminished. Maybe a dozen of them - as compared to the huge pack of them in the beginning of the season?

Well, my Mum actually said during the show "why are they cutting away so much, you can't appreciate the dancing", after I read that article, it occurred to me maybe they had to cut away to different angles to cover up the injuries? But also, yeah, now that I think about it compared to the very first time you see them, there probably was fewer of them.
