One of the users on the Paysites Must Be Destroyed site (PSMD) just hijacked my Sims 3 account. Somehow, he managed to hack my password, change the e-mail address to my account and basically lock me out of my account. I know who it is and have so advised law enforcement. EA managed to straighten it out and restore my account. However, the thief may have had access to credit card information, so those account numbers no longer are valid. Also, the matter was reported to law enforcement and there is a police report. I suspect the motive was theft. By gaining access to my account, the perpetrator could access all the store items I have purchased. I certainly would hope that Pescado was not involved. However, it seems ironic that there are members of the PSMD community who engage in the very conduct they accuse others of engaging in. However, this should be a warning. Not only are some of the people on those sites incredibly nasty, but some are thieves as well. Since the More Awesome Than You site serves some of the same people, that site cannot be considered safe either. |

So just to be clear, you are saying that, amongst the members of a particular forum or two on the internet, upon which anyone can easily sign up to create an account, there are possibly malicious users who can steal your personal account information? Hm, thanks for the warning. I wonder what other sites "the perpetrator" has forum accounts on. Perhaps this one? |

I have been on many different forums on many different sites concerning many different subject areas, but have never encountered this before. I would rate this as a highly unusual occurance and suspect that it is related to the general unhospitable climate on those sites. |

And again, what gives you any reason to believe that this person has anything to do with us? It seems more likely the perpetrator is probably the same party currently launching a DDoS against our site. In any case, if you know who it is, let me know, and measures ca be taken. | |||

I don't think you got hacked because you were on MATY, you got hacked because you were on the internet. MATY probably didn't have anything to do with it other than the hacker happening to be there. Almost anyone can get internet, and they can join almost any site. This does not make MATY evil. (To Pescado: I don't have an account on MATY, but I've read most new threads and many, many old ones. Just wanted to thank you for saving me from BFBVFS so many times! You are the most awesome person I will ever hear of. If I say that I love you, does that make me a stalker?) |

I personally think that the person who did it was probably some vandal. If someone wanted to get your store items for free, he would A: Not be from MATY, and B: Would have just quietly downloaded and snuck out without doing anything to arouse suspicion and discourage you from buying more items he could lift in the future. Therefore, it seems more to me that the motive here is petty vandalism or maybe a false-flag operation by a malicious party. |

To attribute that motive to a member of MATY or PMBD indicates that you have never visited those sites. Locking, as I'm no fan of drama. Reminder to the community: you can enjoy the bounty of MATY's awesome hacks and PMBD's illicit loot without providing any identifying information at all. And if you have used a credit card at EA's Sims3Store (or even have registration points you plan to redeem someday), treat your account there with the same caution you would any money-related internet account: don't use a "guessable" password, don't use a password you've used on any other Sims site, and don't share your account info. |
