Heartache! (Forgetting to save) #1 |
| LilGeek |
After two hours of lovely gameplay, the game crashes.. Doesn't happen a lot, but because I'm an ass at remembering to save at random, it's a complete meltdown everytime I have have a crash Any good tips for how to remember to save? Maybe there's even a mod that helps you remember? I'm open for most suggestions, perhaps even a scary guy calling me every 30 mins, to tell me to save my game. Thanks! |

haha I'll call you xD I always forget to save too. And the worst is that I always forget to roll the pacifier before I go into a family with a pregnant Sim ;_; Then I have to quit without saving because I HATE it when baby Sims are completely identical :/ |

I save every time my Sims head for work. That way if they make a horrible choice on a chance card, I can just back out. |

I sometimes forget to save as well for long periods of time. I tend to use the community lots for my saving. I try to do a small trip at least every two days Sim time. It's something I worked into my style of playing to ensure that my game does get saved. I will only exit to the neighborhood screen as a save option if I've just built on or redecorated something on the lot. With that in mind I don't update rooms such as the nursery or kids room until after they've aged or given birth. That way I make my lot changes and also save either the birth or new age at the same time. I didn't use to do this I had to change how I played the game itself. Alexandra's suggestion is also a good one. I take whatever the chance card gives them good or bad so that wouldn't work for me so much. Probably best for you to think about your style of playing and try to incorporate some sort of routine into it that involves saving. Even if you just save when they sleep that might help you. |

My computer crashes a lot, whether or not I'm playing sims, so I've got pretty good at saving :-) It was hard to remember at first, but it's just second nature now, I save roughly two or three times every sim day. That way I never have to redo a lot of time. I also save every 5 (RL) minutes or so when building/decorating, because I HATE having to redo a load of stuff in build/buy mode. Dull, dull, dull..... |

I used to use a kitchen timer, set to 15 minutes to remind me to save. There definitely is a TS2 Autosave mod - try asking in the Where Can I Find forum (under Help). I did a quick search but can't find it - I know it's not on this site though. Maybe on Insimenator. |

Every time I do a big change (like moving in a sim or having a baby or sending them off to college) I save, both before and after. Also I save a few times every Sim day (like when the bus comes home from school, and when carpool leaves, and when I get every Sim to bed.) Yeah, I try to save a lot. |

Thanks for all the suggestions! I guess it's just something I need to get used to, the saving. I've played a lot of Sims, but even more online games - that save on their own so it doesn't come natural yet. It's probably time for a big post-it note on my monitor saying "SAVE YOU NOOB!" :P |

I usually save before each one heads off to work and when they've learnt a point of skill (no watching them read for hours/chat to themselves in the mirror, again and again!). Also, if they're out at work, I usually save around 12.30pm, as most of the chance cards seem to turn up about 1pm-ish on mine (still let the most annoying sims lose their jobs though, mwahaha - fear my wrath, little sims!). |

I save every 20 mins or so, sooner if something good happens, like job promotions, big bonuses or babies who come out good! Having completely borked my game once and having to revert to a backup of some two weeks earlier, that was far more annoying than losing a session's play. The other week I was playing my legacy founder couple for once and for some reason the game kept crashing; I replayed the scenario about 3 times before I just gave up and moved on to a another family. I think it was something glitchy with that particular lot though. Must play a bit more actually... I haven't played properly for about a week now as I have been sucked into the building side. |

I found the "save game" mod-it is indeed on Insim, and here is the link: http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/topic,30569.0.html |

I save all the time. I barely let a few real life minutes pass by between saves. I save when; One of my sims earns a skill point or talent badge When my sim has just showered/bathed Right after a meal (not often, they usually drink juice) Just before going to a comm/business lot or work Right after they return from a comm/business lot or work Immediately after a sim becomes pregnant, gets first bump, second bump Just before my pregnant sim gives birth and right after Whenever my sim makes a friend or best friend Whenever a sim changes clothes or gets a makeover When a sim wakes up or goes to bed Several times while a sim is making a craftable Several times while a sim is making a bunch of meals for their inventory Frequently while a sim is gardening, harvesting or crating produce (crates) Immediately after using a maxmotive type of cheat Obsessively while building and decorating Each time a uni sim does a term paper, final exam or attends class I guess I just like the idea of going forward with my sims, so having to repeat stuff they have done isn't appealing. They already have to repeat stuff over and over as it is. I've been doing a lot of clothing makeovers in my hood and you can bet I save after each sim is done and before they leave the business lot. Sometimes it gets tedious to outfit a dozen sims at a business lot, but it is better than being frustrated by all the ugly clothing. Fortunately, I don't have to do surgical makeovers because most of my townies are custom townies. I just wish I had enough unique clothes that match my personal tastes and preferences when I created my sims. I think it's easier to remember to save frequently if you have a touch of OCD. ;-) |

I save every time day goes to night or night turns to day. In other words, at 7:00. |

You could set the alarm on your phone to go off every 20 minutes or so to remind you to save. Just set it once and put the snooze at 20 mins or something. |

That not a problem with me any more I always save my game, I learn to the hard way when one of my sims had their first twins girls I forgot to save. By not doing so when I went back into the game she was about to have the baby again and this time around it was not twins. I was so mad so now when I am playing my game I make it a point to save after any events that the sims may have ( like learning how to do homework or first kiss etc ) I will stop and pause my game and save as I play off and on.

Well, that doesn't make much sense....I thought Sim-twins were determined at conception? Or do you mean you didn't save before the babies were conceived? |

In Sims 2, the number and gender of babies is determined at birth. So you can save the moment the mother goes into labor and get a different result if you quit without saving after the birth and re-enter the lot. |

Saving is usually not a problem for me, since I save somewhat frequently myself, mostly when in build/buy mode when I'm creating a house, but I also tend to save right before I do something that could potentially screw things up. Ex., something that could lead to an unwanted sim death (I can be rather cruel to Maxis sims at times, and townies are usually little more than tombstone fodder for my graveyards, but I practically spoil the sims I find I like to play), an unwanted baby/pregnancy (without using the Pescado grill, sometimes it just doesn't fully fit the family's lifestyle, or, more likely, they just didn't have any room to put it anywhere), unwanted crush/love/affair, etc. I also tend to hit save whenever I get up for something (get a drink, use the bathroom, answer phone, just need to stretch, etc). |

I too hit Save when I go and get something or go to the bathroom or whatever. I don't trust my son not to mess with my computer. That child is a sneak. |

I thought it was that the number of babies was determined at CONCEPTION while the gender is determined at birth. Admittedly with the trips & quads hack that changes - that kicks in at birth, so a parent who according to the game is only carrying ONE baby could still potentially have twins or more. On the subject of saving, I'm guilty of not saving often enough, although I do save before I use the batbox (to avoid firstborn syndrome) and just as a parent goes into labour. I'll often save unfinished houses too provided I'm happy with the basic layout. I can then go do something else before coming back to it that way ![]() Naturally I save on lot exit, whether I'm simply going to a community lot, another house or quitting the game entirely. No point replaying umpteen days if I can avoid it! | |

I save my game every 10-15 minutes or so. I learned it the hard way I'm glad I read this thread bc I never knew about "rolling the pacifier" and "firstborn syndrome." I have had that happen in my game, too. |

If you use Pescado's lot debugger there is an option on there to "re-randomize" the Sim generator. It will quit the lot without saving so I always do it right at the beginning of a play session. It's just an easier way to roll the pacifier or it actually rolls it a couple of times. I've got some big families right now as my main hood is very young and I need to build up the population. I love how they are all different and it really gets those recessive genes in play. |

I never save during gameplay either. Good thing my laptop hasn't crashed. I think I should start saving during gameplay too just to be on the safe-side... |
