Have you had anything odd happen in a family tree that you can't explain? That should be in the X-Files?

This is a brief family tree of generation 1, as it stood last week -

First generation: Aramae m. Xan (both dead)

Second generation children: Demi, Elijah, Darius

Third generation: 6 children by Demi, none from Elijah, one from Darius

Fourth generation: All of Demi's children had between 1-3 children each(baby-teenager). Darius' are too young to reproduce.

First strange happening: Around the time the third generation was born, I noticed that Elijah from gen2 had died as a teenager. Later on however, he reappeared again as being alive, but I couldn't find him on the map anywhere. o_O

Second strange happening: Eventually, Darius was the only Sim left living in the original family home, after his sister Demi moved out and married, and his older brother disapeered. A couple of days later I realised that there was a child living with him who had the same skintone and haircolour. Assumed it was a concidence and that the child was adopted. Darius got married and then I decided to investigate the random child named Hugo (well, now an adult) to see if he was related or not. In-game, there was no family relationship between him and Darius despite the similarity between their features. When I looked at Hugo's family tree, it turned out he was gen2, and that his parents were Aramae and Xan, who were shown on the family tree to still be alive, and that they had no other children - when actually they had three others - Darius, Demi and Elijah - let alone the fact that they died ages ago!

Family tree as it is now -

Gen1: Aramae m. Xan / (seperate tree) Aramae m. Xan
Gen2: Demi, Elijah, Darius / Hugo
Gen3: etc, etc.

Has anyone else had any strange happenings?

Sounds like EA Story Progression has struck again.

Twallan's Story Progression Mod or Pescados Awesomemod fixes wierd stuff like that.

I've used both. Twallans is good if you like knowing what's going on with your town. Awesomemod is good if you like controlling every aspect of your town (or not).

I prefer Awesomemod myself.

Once, I managed to play in the same family (one created by me) for many generations.I can't remember all the names now, but they were:

First generation - Sean Whitney and Sienna Whitney (twins). Then Sean married Zelda and she moved with them.
Second gereation - Sean and Zelda's daughter and son and Sienna's daughter. Then, Sean and Zelda's daughter married one of Mortimer's sons (I'm talking about the Goth family).Later, Sienna's daughter also married a guy from the town (I can't remember his name now) and had a son.
Third generation - Sean and Sienna's grandchildren.

Until now, nothing uncommun. But, when I was looking at their family tree and trying to see the Goth family (because now my family and the Goth family were somehow related), they weren'y there anymore.Only Mortimer's son, who was now in my active household.
Soon after that, when I was playing only with the granchildren (all the other sims from the other generations died of old age), all the family tree was gone.

My sim's great-grandfather's sister is still alive somehow. I want to know what her secret is.

Not only that, but one of my sims (same family as above) had about 6 children. I arranged marriages for all of them, and waited for their spawn to appear with no interference from me. One of the daughters had a son called Homer. I giggled to myself. The next baby was also male, and called Bart. This couldn't just be coincidence is it? Perhaps someone in EA is a fan of the Simpsons.

Has changed username from Figgi to Lemon&Lime, thanks admins! :)

Just found out that my adult female Sim had a child with a male in China whom she didn't even know well! We were both mighty surprised, although I don't know why I should be because before I deleted my first Sims 3 this happened to another Sim adventuress. I know why the game does this but I still HATE it.

It's a known bug for WA that sims find themselves married to dead vacation sims and have a child with them. Awesomemod is the only fix I know of.

Well I created Joana Walker to play with her in Sunset Valley since the launch of Sims 3. Joana's legacy continued for 5 generations. She had 3 children, all females. Younger were twins. One of them died from electrocution as a teenager. After 5 generation that sims is listed 2 times in family tree as if Joana had 2 daughters named Tina that died same way. Thats the only bug in family tree.

I started with one sim, and now there are around 30 Walkers in Sunset Valley . The Walker family is releated with almost entire town now and family tree is enormous, it contains more than 100 sims.

And yea, some old sims appear to be alive in the family tree, but there is no way to contact them, and they have tombstones in the graveyard.

There's nothing weird with my family tree but there's something weird with my elder. My life duration is set on 190 days... It's his 236th day. WHY WON'T HE DIE?!

On the subject of family trees. I know this may come off as a spam but... is there any way to see the whole tree, not just branches?

Well 190 days means average life duration for sims is 190 days. That does not mean they will live 190 days. Sometimes they live shorter, most of the times longer. How long will they live depends on many factors. I know a few, one being vegetarian trait. Sims with this trait will always live longer. 2nd is athletic skill challenge, marathon runner or something. If your sim jogs enough during hes life, he will complete this challenge and he will live longer. Those are factors that I know for sure will grant longer life. Maybe duration of sims life also depends on their happiness bar, so if they had a happier life (more Life time happiness points) they will live longer, but this is just a gues.

I play on 90 days average duration of sim life and one sim was 112 when he died, he wasnt vegetarian but he did complete athletic skill chalenge. One sim also died on hes 87 day.

D= He'll never die. He's a vegetarian, completed all the challenges in athletic skill, his happiness bar has never been yellow, let alone red. He'll live forever D=
I know that 190 stands for average life duration, but I thought there would be 10-15 days extra, not 46! He's clogging up my household.

No, it doesn't. After a sim lived past the minimum life span, there's a given risk of dying every day. The marathon runner challenge will lower that risk, as does being a SimBot. Having the "full of life" buff will completely neglect the risk. That's all. Not really "many", don't you agree?

If we want to be mathematically correct - and I do - that's not true. What gets longer, is the sim's life expectancy. That's stochastics, the expected value of a random variable. Changing the probability doesn't neglect the fact that the whole thing is random. In non-egghead terms: Just because in general marathon runners are expected to live longer than regular sims, it's in no way guaranteed that a given marathon runner lives longer than a sim who uses his/her time for something more rewarding, like woohooing the brains out of his/her mate...
