Okay, bad title is bad. Basically I want to have a sim use a certain object and have his/her social motive go up. But it's not a user created object, it's one already in the game. Is there a way to do this? I can't figure it out on my own (but I'm still working on it). |

Use the ITUN (GameplayData file) associated with the item you want to change and type in something similar to the following, in the Output section. <Change type="Social" advertised="100" locked="True" actual="100" updateType="ContinuousFlow" timeDependsOn="False" updateEvenOnFailure="False" updateAboveAndBelowZero="Either" /> You can examine these mods here http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4255.0 as examples of how to do this. Open one of these in S3PE and compare it to the original ITUN. |

So is this an xml I'd be making or...something else I am not getting? Tuning file? Not sure the difference other than name. |

Yes, the tuning file is also an xml file. It just has a different file extension. |

So, for example, the smash dollhouse option, if i wanted to only have it enabled for certain ages, would I extract + edit the itun or the xml for it? Or would I have to do both? |

You're not forced to use both an _XML and an ITUN to make something work, no. You simply need to read through the relevant items and determine what you need to change. In this case the Smash_DollHouse ITUN is enough, just changing the ages up towards the top of the file should do it. |

ITUN resources contain tunable values for interactions; they are XML files built to a specific "blueprint". If you want to restrict an interaction to a certain age or certain traits or want sims to gain/lose fun/social/athletic skill/whatever you usually do that with the ITUN resource. The latter one is the output Shimrod spoke of that will be applied while an interaction is running. In a nutshell: Thresholds, "constants", start/end values of certain ranges, etc. are usually found in _XML resources. General restrictions and tradeoff like motive/skill gain/loss of interactions reside in ITUN resources.

You have to do the ITUN, up towards the top, this part: <Age Children="True" Adults="True" Toddlers="False" Teens="True" Elders="True" /> Changing one of these to "False" means that the age group isn't allowed to do this thing, in this case smashing the dollhouse. So Teens for example will never attempt to do it if you set them to False; they are locked out from doing this action. I'm not sure which XML you're referring to, but there is nothing in the Dollhouse+Smash_XML or the other 2 Dollhouses_XMLs that can make this change.

Hmm, well my package file says it's an itun, I thought it was an xml. So I guess I already did it. |
