It seems this community is not as open-minded or warm-hearted as I thought. A simple post discussing oddities in the game's handling of custom content and nothing more, and it was promptly locked. It appears this forum is also filled with trigger-happy mods who happily use their exclusive options any chance they get. Although the post was simply pointing out things not mentioned in your guide, the moderator felt it should be locked due to asking for help, which I clearly did not do. I seemed to be nothing more than an excuse at eagerly using their exclusive features. I also suspect that my being new was a partial inspiration for having my thread locked. That perhaps I was looked down upon as a lesser member simply because of being new, and the community can get away with pushing around the newer members. And if there was any inspiration to silence my discussion out of spite that I mentioned your guide in passing, I would find it rather egotistical and impatient of the community. There was no criticism of your guide, and regardless, if someone did criticise it, such comments should be met with reasoning, not rudeness. It's a shame that the community appears to be so cold, unwelcoming, rude, and impatient. A simple post and it is swiftly locked before any discussion can even begin. Either out of spite because I mentioned your guide, newcomers being an easy target, or another typical example of forum moderators misuing their power, I am rather disappointed in the community, and thought it would be more open-minded to simple discussion about Sims 2. |

Well I'm very sorry you feel that way, but you're definately wrong. I looked back through your posts, and they are either in the wrong place, or something already widely known. No one gets "looked down upon", for being new. They may look down on you for not reading any of the stickies or site rules which tell you where and where not to post certain threads. Furthermore, I've been a member here for awhile (although not near as long as others) and it's not a cold or unwelcoming site in the slightest. I've gotten threads locked for not doing something right. I never thought that the Mods doing their jobs was them picking at me. If you think that, maybe you should visit Maty. |

Assuming it's the one you made today (looked through your profile), "General - I discovered something not mentioned in the site's guide..." Mangaroo gave you a link, HP said it should be posted in the Help section. So, yeah. I don't know where you're getting this idea from, aside from simply looking at "Oh hey, it was locked" and not bothering to look inside. |

Is that a shillelagh in your pocket, or are you just sinning against God? |

Wow. I don't even see the point in picking the post apart because there is literally not one correct assumption in it. Little hint: read all site rules and guidelines. If a thread gets locked it's either because it's in the wrong place, the issue has been resolved, or because war broke out. Never have I seen a thread get locked because the person is new. If that were the case then the site wouldn't actually have many members now, would it? |

If you want open-minded and warm-hearted, try More Awesome Than You or Garden of Shadows. I can't think of more caring and passionately helpful Sims communities than those. |

Especially More Awesome Than You. Go in there and ask in general discussion thread "Where can I find a hack for TS2 to prevent needless NPCs from regenerating?". |

The mods here are not trigger happy. They are trying to keep some sense of order and they have gone above and beyond to make sure it is a good place to get information and for us simmers to have a fun place to hang out. It is not unreasonable for them to lock threads and direct you to the right section. That's for the poster's benefit as much as it is theirs because you are more likely to get help in the help section. Imagine. We've all been new and a lot of us have even made the same mistakes, I'm sure. I know I did at the beginning. It happens. Don't take it so personally and then go whining about it on their forum. |

Plus, if you have a disappointment, you can PM one of the mods/admins. Because, y'know, telling us, members, won't solve your problem. |

What Nekowolf said - if you have additional information, it belongs in the Help section. We can always incorporate additional information into our guides. But what you were reporting was not typical behavior, and if you're interested in figuring out why, again, that's a job for the Help section. Discussion is for stuff like "How do I get my sim promoted?" or "What kind of families do you like to create?" Technical discussion about how downloads work really belongs in Help, which is why your thread was locked. I'm sorry if you're upset about that, but it's not because you're new, or because we just love locking threads - it's to keep threads in the right place. Threads about technical stuff in the Sims Discussion area almost invariably end up with misinformation - people saying stupid stuff like to reinstall for a simple issue, or giving flat out wrong information. The Help section mostly gets replied-to by staff, who have years of experience in fixing technical issues, and generally know what they're talking about. As this has been answered, I'm locking this. If you would like to figure out why your game is not allowing longer folder names, please post a new thread in the Help forums. PS: They're kidding about GoS and MATY, which have a reputation for being rather grumpy and unfriendly to new people, especially MATY. |
