I would like to see the best features from ts1, 2 and 3 melted into something spectacular! I dont like the sims 3 at all, so I switched back to the sims 2 ´cause I really miss small hoods that can be easily costomized and controlled, and I like the idea of subhoods, pets, weather and the like, so take that and combine it with seamless hoods, sunsets, awesome plants and the graphic quality from sims 3 minus the rabbitholes, add the sense of humour, magic and the sax-player from sims1 oldtown and everything I mentioned from the sims2 (incuding a normal body-shop and less stressed sims: whats with the running?), and that would be just perfect

...and swimable beaches.

The thing I miss the most in sims 3 is the subhoods that connect sims from different places through interaction in Downtown, shopping and University-districts, so that has to be brought back in no4. And Strangetown, in it´s entiery. lol.

I would like it to be online like the original The Sims Online, but with the graphics from TS2, and the open neighborhood of TS3.

But I can see that being a problem since it'd probably lag a lot, so maybe only sections of the neighborhood will be open, like say there will be seaming complexes where the houses will be, and then a seaming downtown area, and a seaming park/beach, etc.

I always found subhoods to be such a turn-off, that when I started doing custom hoods, I never added them. I found the hood more fun when everything was integrated into the main town, uni/shopping/work. The only down-fall with this was that there were elements in the subhoods that you missed out on if you didn't have them, like mrs. Crumplebutton, vampires and Mr. and Mrs. Big. And with uni you missed all the uni-specific things like strikers and mascots and Greek house things. But those were never important enough for me that I couldn't live without.

It seems that quite a number of us like the open neighborhood feature of TS3, but I'm wondering, what is the appeal of it? Maybe this is the wrong thread for this question, but since we're discussing the best of the best we'd like to see in TS4, what is the attraction? Noting openly that I've never played TS3, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. Literally.

I think it may be the lack of loading screens. I tried TS3, and though the open hood was nice, the lack of car animations, the Sims walk-marching from one place to the other, the rabbitholes (made me so mad!!!) way overwhelmed any good the open hood did.

I'll take a loading screen any day over awful rabbitholes. (I got an idea! Let's watch our Sims disappear into a building for hours at a time! Sounds super! /sarcasm)

Ugh.

To be honest, the TS3 open neighborhood was a little too much for me (actively managing five Sims in disparate locations was maddening...I wonder if I would have improved with practice?). However, in TS2 I would love the ability to take my playable Sims to a neighbor's house for a visit. Or walk across the spaces between lots in my neighborhood. My seaside village has this lovely "filler" area decorated with the AL alleyways and the carousel object...it looks great from neighborhood view, and I wish I could walk my Sims through it, but of course it doesn't exist as part of their world.

Is it true that you can't attach new subhoods in TS3? I stopped playing when World Adventures got released, so I have no first-hand knowledge about this, but I heard that if you install Late Night you can't add Bridgeport to your neighnorhood.

What I want to say is that if it's true, then it must be a limitation introduced by "open neighborhood". So although it's a great feature of the game, it has serious drawbacks.

Also I dislike greatly how you can't place houses and lots freely in TS3, at least that was the case when it was released. You could only place lots in a dozen or so designated spaces that fit by size. I hope I'm not making up new things, that was so long ago to remember, but I remember that I had problems with placing lots wherever I wanted to and making them to be the size that I wanted to.

I think the best part about the open hood is being able to go anywhere, and visit anybody. Going jogging with you Sim is one of my favorite things to do, and when my sims are sitting in a car driving, I like to lock the camera on them and "drive" with them, explooring the hood is also something that was never possible with TS2. But the thing that tops it all, is being able to visit your neighbors. Of course this is something that has nothing to do with an open world, if EA would have wanted they could have implemented this in TS2, but for some reason they chose not to do it except partially and badly with AL.

As mangaroo mentioned, the downfall of an open hood is the fact that you can't be in 12 places at once. I find it easy handling two people in two different locations, more than that is doable, but not fun, at least not for me. Usually I just concentrate on one or two Sims, and the rest can do what they feel like doing for a short time. My families are small anyway, so it's not like I have herds of Sims wondering around unattended.

But even with this downfall, I'll take an open world anytime over restricted lots. The idea of not being able to walk across the street to have a cup of coffee with my neighbor is such a turn-off.

Babahara: TS3 doesn't have subhoods, Bridgeport is a new hood. I don't think it's a limitation introduced with an open world. If having vacation destinations is possible, obviously having subhoods is possible, but it's something they chose not to implement. If they do implement them later in the future, I hope it's implemented better than int TS2. And about lots, with Ambition, you can add lots anywhere.

I have a better idea, lets watch our Sims go on a nature hikes, or tours, or jogging, while we wait at our empty lot for them to return. TS2 is full or rabbit holes, but those rabbit holes don't exist physically in the world like they do in TS3.

The appeal to me was that it was a lot better than staring at your house all day. Moving around the neighborhood is interesting and it definitely takes practice to work multiple sims, but overall it was a fun experience. My only issue being the bugs that come along with TS3.

Hate to burst your bubble-TS2 had rabbit holes as well, the difference being in TS2 it was the form of carpool or your sim driving off the lot. My only huge disappointment with TS3 is the resturant and supermarket are rabbitholes. Otherwise, I guess I am fine with them in TS3.

I rarely use careers, so I did not think of that. All my Sims work for other Sims.

I was thinking of places that should never be a rabbithole and is not in TS2 (at least in my hood), things like the school, restaurants, diners, pubs, movie theater, city hall, etc.

Although in my perfect Sims game, there are no rabbitholes at all for anything, whether it be hiking or going to work, or attending school.

Oh also... is it too much to ask for licensed, detailed cars? It's not a racing game so I don't see what's the big deal with obtaining the licenses...

Btw when I say cars I mean CARS not Toyota Pirus,

^ Sims 2 had a deal with Ford and the Exchange, so we got some cars. Fresh-Prince fills in the gaps!

What really irritated me was that in TS2 the neighbouring buildings were super-blurry or didn't appear at all depending on your expansion, and 'hood deco FLOATED OR DISAPPEARED. In TS3 I love jogging and seed/plant hunting as well as playing small custom towns, but I rarely used rabbit holes anyways in either game. In TS4 I think honestly it'll be like Sims 3, but with a totally different feel and look. And people will find it "fail".

Ugh.

I agree. When sims 3 first came out I was excited I was like, cool we can actually see what our sim does at work! But no, they have to DISAPEAR! It gets boring waiting for them.

I dislike TS3 for a lot of reasons but I did like this feature. I think it adds atmosphere to the game. There is a real sense of place and that there's stuff happening. The town is alive. Well, there is until you realise interacting with the townies is pointless because they just disappear in short order. Then you realise it's just moving scenery. All the same, it does add to the game in that way and it is also nice to be able to explore anything you can see. Genius loci, you see, that's what it gives.

Another thing that would be cool is like others said interactable work or like just mini game things for school and work that had to do with it and your erformance affected your pay which would get sent to you at the end of the week. that would be better in my opionion

I appreciate the frank discussion of the open neighborhood. I think for my play style sims 2 works just fine. I use hacks to get around the rabbit holes I don't like--school hacks are a must for me. And I don't really mind having my sims stay at home a lot since I'm a homebody myself I guess. Also, with hacks that let me select visitors and teleport sims on world, it really makes the play so much more viable for me. I don't think I could ever go back to the vanilla maxis play: that would drive me crazy. I have always wished that my sims could go next door and visit neighbors, though. Could there be a semi-open hood? One that allows neighbor visiting, but keeps the option of playable community lots? I think I would really, really miss the community lots if they were gone. They add so much play value to the whole neighborhood. Oh, yes, and I forgot to mention, I hate townies to the point of not having any at all in my hoods now. Clean templates. No townies.

This is one of those things EA is never going to be able to fully nail. TS2 didn't have this feature, it gets asked for, TS3 has it and it gets hated for it.

I do hope that if there is an TS4, the opportunity system isn't disposed of, instead it would be improved. What improvement it needs, is that it should have a chance to have a bad outcome as well. Your kid gets asked to fix the boiler room, but it blows up on his face and your household is now a kid short. Currently the only bad outcome I've seen in an opportunity is relationship loss with my boss when I accidentally sold the book he gave me to read. But even that relationship loss was very small, it should have been much bigger.

That's exactly the way I would want it to work, but I'd call it TS 2.5 --not TS4. In TS3 Sims take too much liberty and freedom for my liking. Despite the great work of Pescado and Twallan with hacks and mods the fact remains: you can't play TS3 in the TS2 style.

For the most part I'm completely happy with the Sims 2. I will never play 3 and I will probably never play this hypothetical 4. More expansions and stuff packs for the Sims 2 would make me pee my pants in excitement though!
