I havn't even seen a mention of this, anywhere...So I'm setting out to make one. I'm an experienced programmer, but I'm completely new to meshing and programming the Sims, so work with me please.

First, how do I get build mode objects to show up in SimPE?

I read over the basic meshing tutorials here on the modthesims and am at a loss. I think the version of SimPE they were using is different than mine. I don't have geometric data files? Were these replaced by shape files? That's all I could figure.

Also, what tutorials would I look to about about making the "garage door" cling to fences rather than walls?

Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Build mode objects will show up in SimPE in the Object Workshop tab, along with Buy Mode objects. You can find them in the "Other" section (gates are categorised as doors there too). I expect you would have to clone the gate like a normal object in order to edit it and play around with the way it works.

It would be awesome if you could figure out how to make a gate like this work! Best luck.

So it looks like I need some sort of plug-in for SimPE to get the GMDC data? Somebody got a link to it?

SimPE normally comes with all the plugins you need to do pretty much everything, so you shouldn't need to download anything to view the GMDC.

What part of the modding process are you up to, and what do you see in SimPE? You might just have the wrong tab open or something like that, it can be a bit overwhelming trying to find everything when you first open up a package!

Could you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Did you clone a gate or the garage door? Looking at the number of TXMT's I'm guessing the garage door. It is a complex object and doesn't have the kind of motion you want from a gate anyway. I'd suggest cloning a gate and expanding its footprint. You can run fences at either end of driveway extensions, so having a fence across your driveway is doable without any special tricks.

PS -- ***head slap*** doh! All I needed to do was look at the file name to know it was the garage door.

It'll be totally awesome if this works! I've been wanting a garage door/fence for forever, but I know nothing about custom content of any kind, so I couldn't do it myself.
