I am surrounded by it... It is driving me mad! Personally, I couldn't give two hoots about it, and according to a BBC poll, 34% of Brits join me in not caring. Although surprisingly (to me anyway) an equal number are 'very excited' about it. What do you guys think? The BBC (again) have estimated that 2 billion people will be tuning in to watch it on the telly, and YouTube will also be doing a live feed (the first ever). Will you be watching? Going to be in the crowds? Do you adore Kate Middleton? Do you care at all? |

I'm an American and by choice I don't have TV, so I confess that I am immune from any hoopla that might be going on, which greatly reduces the annoyance factor. I imagine that if I weren't so "shielded," I might be driven crazy, too. That said, call me silly, but I have always had this soft spot for the British royals, at least in the sense of enjoying the pageantry of the weddings and such. (I don't understand why the royal family still exists, from a "practical" standpoint, but that's beside the point, really.) I suppose it's a carry-over from my fascination with medieval history, in a way, and it's likely exacerbated by my bleeding romanticism that makes me love a big, huge wedding, plus lingering girliness over wedding dresses. Sure, there's a nagging part of me that says that the money no doubt being spent on the whole deal would likely be better spent elsewhere (like, say, in Japan), but that's a complaint I also have against movies with gigantic budgets. But anyway... Since I don't have TV, I'll be tuning in to the live feed, assuming that my Internet connection cooperates. Same as I watched the Charles and Diana Extravaganza in '81. The time difference is going to kill me, though. I'm seven hours behind London time. I AM a night owl, so I'm generally up until the wee hours, but given the time difference, the "good parts" will be happening when I generally go to bed. Ah, the sacrifices we make... |

1. I am not British nor Canadian nor from any other country with the British monarchy. 2. I'm not that interested but I'm also not disinterested... I agree with it being EVERYWHERE though, is there not any other important news? 3. I think that Kate's really pretty :P 4. I might watch, it's "the big thing", I don't have much else to do anyway 5. To me it seems that Americans are just as engrossed as the British

From what I can tell, America seems to be more interested in this than Britain itself - see below, taken from here- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12990911 "ABC news is sending a cast of its most high profile presenters, including Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters, to London to present a range of specially themed programmes across the week. Media interest isn't just confined to the major news outlets. A television movie, William and Kate, which charts how the couple met, will be broadcast on the TLC network. The entertainment channel E! will be hosting special coverage, for the younger audience, the Disney channel will be showing princess-themed cartoons. The Weather Channel is even getting in on proceedings. "Weather will of course be a big part of the story of the wedding," says David Blumenthal, a spokesman for the channel. The network will broadcast the latest London forecasts during the week of the wedding, and is also sending its anchor Al Roker to the city to host his show. If that wasn't enough meteorological material, the channel is showing features on Anglesey, the royal couple's new home." Why anyone not going would care about what the weather will be like is beyond me. Other than a possible 'It'll be a shame if it rains' on behalf of the bride. |

My dad is all up in a hooplah about it so we're going to his work and watching it with the entire of his floor on a huge, massive screen. *headdesks* I couldn't really care less. I'd rather just record it on VHS. xD |

^^^Dude... Harry ain't the one getting married I don't particularly care that much but I can see why people are getting excited about it. Imagine your sister or something was getting married and think of how excited everyone would be. Okay, that's a rotten comparison but it's hard to explain the feeling that the whole country kind of comes together and has something to look forward to. Quote:
It's really difficult to explain why people are so interested in the wedding to a country that doesn't have a monarchy. I guess it provides the country with a sense of unity. Also there are going to be a hell of a lot of celebrations in England on April 29th to celebrate the wedding which people may/may not be looking forward to. All the plans I've seen are kind of made to let us enjoy the whole being typically British thing for once. My local pub is having a tea and scones morning (as they advertised it in the newspaper) and there's going to be a sportsday in the village a couple miles away. Even if you're in England and you're not interested n the Royal Wedding then theres still the fact that the day has been made a bank holiday to look forward to. | |

I'm not all that excited about it, but my mother certainly is. She loves a wedding, and a royal wedding is always going to live up to her expectations. She and I will be on holidays when it happens, so we're planning on getting comfy in our hotel room and watching it all fold out. I understand why some people are really excited for it, though. I mean, surely the royal family are a little bit more important than Brangelina or TomKat, but everyone is always up in arms about every little thing they do, so when the RF are getting married, it should be considered a big thing. However, people are annoying me when they compare Kate to Princess Di. No one, especially not Kate, compares to Di in my eyes. And besides, isn't it a touch awkward for Will to have his bride-to-be compared to your late mother? |

I don't care much about the royals, but I guess it's nice to have an event happening that presents something nice. There's been so many bad things happening lately, like the earth quake in Japan, the war in Libya and now the tornadoes in USA.. A wedding is nice in the way that it presents something positive (though 50 % ends with divorces). What bothers me is how much money they put into it, and that they need to "clean" public land from everyone that doesn't fit in. |

Oh, I do love a good wedding ![]() On the other hand....it could get pretty dicey in the streets there. I've seen news reports about anarchist groups who fully intend to do everything in their power to disrupt the wedding as much as possible. Then of course there's the usual paranoia (I mean from people in general, not me specifically) about terrorists attacking big public events. I don't doubt for a second that this wedding will probably have enough security personnel to fill a small country but it's still a lot of ground and people to cover. I kinda feel sorry for Kate that she's got all that to contend with as well as getting married, I certainly wouldn't wanna be in her shoes. Quote:
Exactly how ashamed should I be to admit that I watched that movie last night ....I do watch some shite! That said, It was marginally better than I expected it to be....which is not saying a lot really! Yes, the acting and storyline were questionable but the thing that annoyed me about it most was that they didn't even attempt to make it look like it was shot in Britain which is kind of an important part of the story imo. Plus...I think middle class Americans must be a lot different to middle class Brits, I don't know any middle class brits that live in a manor house style mansion like that.

I will see it, but not because it interests me. After I observe the eyecandy, entertainment, and guests I will be ready to spoil future weddings that I am invited to. Oh, I see you have Napa Valley wine! You know, the royal wedding had _____________. Hey, that was a nifty bouquet, but Kate's bouquet was _____________! Nice cake you have there, but I don't think it will be mentioned on BBC. What do mean there was a mistake on the invitation? I didn't want to be here anyway. Also, the duck was dry. |

I think it's a big deal. I mean, it is a ROYAL wedding. Doesn't happen everyday with a power like Britain. I think it's important, just that I roll my eyes at the HUGE deal people are making out of it. I think some has to do with the fact that this is Princess Diana's son. We all know her story. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you one of the ones saying that Brits should all just quit their whining about tax payers money paying for the pope to visit in the thread about that a few months ago? I think the arguements went along the lines of we ought to cough up for it because he's a guest of the queen and therefore a guest of our country.....well I think grandson and heir to the throne trumps guest! Don't get me wrong, I'm not over the moon at how much this will probably cost tax payers (does anybody actually know the numbers?) but it's not like this happens all the time, it's a momentous one off event...untill Harry gets married in a couple of years, lol....but after that it there probably won't be any for a while, certainly not any so big revolving around direct heirs. |

Being a Brit myself, I can't say I'm particularly interested in the wedding. It's all hyped up a little too much. If I were Will or Kate, I'd probably be stressed right up to the eyeballs with pressure right now. All those people watching... can't say I'd want that! |

I didn't even know there was a wedding!!!! (what does that say about me?????) I'm genrally disinterested in the crp that goes on in the world, I don't watch T.V and all the news is picked up off the odd person here and there or the internet but now that I DO know I still don't care though it does explain why my son's nursury report came back with 'practiced for the royal wedding' on it and there was me thinking 'jesus they're starting them off young!'. |

I'm not particularly interested although I do understand why people are. William is second in line to the throne and, assuming nothing awful happens, he will be our King one day and is marrying the woman who will be our Queen. That's pretty huge. I won't be watching the whole thing but I may watch some, just to see what it's like (and, like missroxor, because I'm interested in The Dress!). stariscool - I keep thinking the same about the pressure they must be under! Wojtek - you're right, no one has the right to judge other people's interests, so stop judging the people who are interested in this wedding which means a lot to millions of people all around the world, especially in the UK. |
