Okay, when I got a hold of my first simbot . . . I was very disappointed. Like, very disappointed. They were far too human for my tastes. I didn't like the fact that they peed or slept in beds and I was very irked that EA didn't at least create a special "bed" chamber or "waste disposal" thing for them. There's a Sim Charging Station floating around on MTS, but it requires WA, which I don't have. I couldn't find any other satisfactory bed (also, I noticed that there's only around 550 items in Buy Mode for Sims 2. Over 7,000 for Sims 2. WTF? D: ). I recently came across a mod that lets them fill their bladder/energy when they eat scrap, so I'm going to try that out in a few days. But . . . what do I do with the simbot in the mean time? Where do I "store" it or prevent it from just wandering around in the wee hours of the night? I was thinking of maybe having them just write novels all night. Maybe hunt down some fancy looking computer and pretend they're transferring data. Or something. What's your strategy? How do you keep your simbots robotic? |

If you are to compare simbot to ... what did they call it in TS2 again? Servo? I think Servo is actually amazing. You can charge them, turn them off. They just turn off when they run out of power, and not dying. They live forever (correct me if I am wrong). They don't need to eat or do what normal human (uh, sim actually) needs to do. In fact, I even went as far as changing the skin of Servo to some non-default skin. And I had a human looking Servo running around, exactly like an android: look like sim, behave like Servo. TS3 simbot unfortunately does not give you half of what Servo did. I tried them, and they do feel "too human". They only have a short life span comparable to Elder of normal sim (which I may understand because if simbots don't die, then we may end up with too many of them around). They have to eat, shower, sleep, and yes, ... pee. I think there is only a slight difference on simbot's motive bars. I didn't play simbots long enough to know the differences off my head. The new design is ugly (comparing to Servo) and I tried to reskin it with a custom skin that will turn my simbot into an android (100% human looking) and it failed. And no, I don't think there is a way to "store" them at all. Since you mention computer and transferring data, you can train simbot to hack computer. |

It's because the SimBot is to the Servo what the SNES is to the Nintendo WIi, the predecessor. However, logically you would think the later model would be the most human-like. Either way, SimBots are very disappointing. (I was also disappointed by vampires, ghosts and mummies, meh.) The SimBot's only disadvantage, the weakness to water, is actually an advantage because it lets you change their traits. Speaking of storing sims, I've never been very good at managing the lives of more than about 4 sims simultaneously (I have to control everything.). So I've always been looking for ways to put some of my sims on hold. So far the only thing I've thought of is having them sleep in the evil sarcophagus until they become a mummy, then they will sleep in there indefinitely with static needs. This obviously won't work for SimBots though. |

If you don't want the simbots wandering about at night, you can shortcircuit them by getting them to take a bath. They will stop functioning as soon as they get out of the bathtub, and will sort of freeze in mid motion. They will snap out of it in the morning. | |

tomoni - I never had OFB, which had the Servos in it from Sims 2, so my hopes didn't get knocked down in comparison. I just felt they were poorly done right off the bat. D: Hacking is a good idea, though. Sounds more legit. =D Stripy - it's one thing for simbots to become more humanlike (although you're right, they have it backwards). But . . . an improved robot is one that requires less work, not more. A good robot would have great AI, but it wouldn't need to go to the bathroom just to be humanlike. o_O crocobaura - Really? I thought short-circuiting required inventors to tinker with it and reprogram it? Or does that only take a few sim-minutes? |

I use that Simbot Charging Station from here: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=407036 and make him invent or tinker all day. |

Hehe thanks for the charging station link. Already in my game now and I can sell the extra bed I set up in the family hobby/skill room and put in the inventor bench. I stashed it in the cellar in tiny room locked from everyone but her. And i love my simbot (got it from the lifetime reward thing) although I was a bit ambivalent when I saw that the sim that got her could woohoo with her. Um. Yeah no, even though he wasn't married just no! If she was more android like (think Data) okei I could see it, but having woohoo with steel and bolts can't be comfortable. I originally got the Simbot so they could fire the maid and have a free service but after seeing Melissa, who is evil, eco-friendly, hydrophobic, inapprobiate and mean spirited (I did change inapprobiate for green-thumb trait so she will have more uses than entertainment value for me), in action she is fast becoming my favorite character in my house. She sure has livened my "perfect" family up. She is SO unlike anything I would ever choose characteristic wise. I really have been missing out. She is treated as just another family member although the eldest daughter is not happy with her and has negative relationship with her. I never got to experience the servo in Sims 2 so I can't compare but I really like this version of robotic companion. Wouldn't mind a servo though too, with the same functioning as the Sims 2 servo. And about the toilet thing, I am on two sides, yeah no reason a robot needs to go to the bathroom other than to do laundry, repair and upgrade but as she 'eats' there is a logic to it that she would have a waste to get rid off. But more logical if she would get rid of it in the trash and not risk clogging up and destroy the toilet with industrial waste. |
