My sims devastated by recent terror attacks!
Just picked up my copy of generations this morning and played through for a few hours. My sim met a great girl proposed and they moved in together. A few days later they both hosted their amazing Bachelor parties with Co workers from the Business Career. It was an amazing night to remember as they all partied into the early hours of the morning. The next day everyone was back into work as if nothing had occured out of the norm. Then suddenly a random dark cloud loomed over the building. A few passes by began to look up. Oh cool Meteor I thought as I'd only ever seen one before in a random spot near a lake at Sunset Valley. Well my two sims were safe inside the building as were their mates so I thought they would be safe. But No! The meteor struck as if the tower had been bombed. I was left stunned as the explosion took the lives of 6 Sims!
Incredibly both my sims managed to survive along with 3 others inside the firm. But I just can't get over how random and destructive this event was. I new meteors were dangerous and could kill sims but wow 6 sims who were at my bachelor parties and one sim soon to be a best man at the wedding. It's just incredible! I'm not upset actually I think it was awesome!
Ok Ok why did I write this in generations well thanks to the memory screen shots and events I was able to capture the moment so amazingly. Memories are so awesome in this game and today I've felt so much more attached to my sims then ever before. I havn't felt this great playing the sims since the original series.
That big space rock is worth 5000 simoleons!
But my Sim still mourned for 10 hours non stop watching the grim reaper take away the bodies! So 5000 simoleons for the wedding and honeymoon but one survivor for the guest list at the wedding.
R.I.P. To The following Sims Whom I may build a shine towards in their memory
Odine Pery
Johanna King
Caroline Custard
Renee Littler
Katrina Pala
Rafael Striker
Rocky Tanker
To some it all up I suggest watching out or one day this may happen to your little simmers and it will completely screw up their AI minds for the rest of their lives.

You should get it. Best expansion pack since the sims 2 seasons and even then I havn't felt this attached to my sims since the Sims 1. Oh and by the way my sim had a full chest of hair before the explosion and now its all gone? Free wax saloon! ouch...

I'm soooo jealous, you got such a gigantic rock! Mine were so puny, and had a worse fatality rate. My sim and her boss was fine, almost all the other children, teens, and teachers were killed (not that there were many, SP was being rather slow)

As a note for the future, GET YOUR SIM OUT OF THE BUILDING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It was pure luck your sims lived, they have a much better survival rate the farther away they are from the building of impact.
You know what would be cool/horrible? If there was no warning at all, that a random meteor just hit your sims! I could just imagine the chaos XD

Holy crap. I can see why the memory system is extremely useful now.

Someone may have asked this before, but those 6 sims who lost their lives, where were they when meteor hit? Standing outside and around the building, or inside the building working? Beside the dark cloud looming over, was there any other indication, and how long did it take from the time you notice the dark cloud until the actual time it hits? So maybe if we have time to tell sims to run.
I am ready to sacrifice some NPC for this event, yes! But maybe not my active household.

You get a fair warning in advance before the meteor comes. I had it on cheater speed and noticed the notification box. I would say at least 3 hours before it happens but the problem was that all my Sims were inside at the time. Buildings don't protect Sims just like real life lol! If your in the blast radius or lot you've got a big chance of dying. I no that 2 people were outside when it happened. One was right by the fountain and got squashed! It was hilarious and the other was ... on the other side of the building next to my male Sim who came outside to have a look. I wish I could have recorded it better. I don't think it will ever happen again for me. It was so amazing at first the explosion was up to the roof of the building. I tried to pause and capture it in memories but there was a 1 second delay. You can tell how big the blast strength was by all the surrounding furniture exploding.
There was one strange thing though..... the bartender carried on working after like nothing had happened and she was a meter away from the blast.
Update: The man in the suit walking away in the first picture and burnt in the second died later that night, possibly from complications. No joke! I tried finding him and he was at the grave yard also so the Death toll has risen to 7. My Sims survived the night but are still traumatised from the incident constantly crying. It's starting to annoy me as they weep while doing everything. In the shower, at breakfast during exercise (yes I tried to toughen them up but it didn't work). They even screamed during the taxi ride to work the next day! Actually I don't blame them on that last one.

So there is a notification pop up. So you know "there will be a meteor hitting within 3 hours". But is there any indicator of where about it will hit? Or maybe this message is lot based, so we will know it will hit somewhere in the lot?
This reminds me of Starcraft (and Starcraft 2 but I only played for 2 hours), Ghost sets a laser sight for nuclear bomb. And upon hearing "Nuclear launch detected" players would frantically search for that little laser dot either to move units out of the way or scan and kill the ghost before the bomb hits.
I work for a living, but I don't necessarily live for a working.

Once you get the notification, you know it will happen, just not the exact time. When it happens in my game, the pop-up comes and maybe within the hour, meteor raining down. Never had as long as 3 hours.
I do find it hilarious that the bartender just keeps right on with the job, even though the heat has singed the clothes off. Too funny.
Sorry about your sims, hope the wedding and possible honeymoon makes things better.

I've seen some users on the official forums talking about about increased meteor strikes since the latest patch. I kid you not, one person had several meteors strike their lot at once and the explosion was nothing short of epic. Here's a link to the thread with pictures for the lolz: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/386232.page
Still haven't had any meteor strikes in my game, but it's nice to know that it's realistic. I'm sorry for your sim's loss though...that's tragic. I agree about the memories, it does make the sims feel a bit deeper.

From the link above, I can't help but to say this may be ... fake. It looks like a napalm bomb attack instead. But seriously, unless something seriously went wrong, the OP of that thread must have used a debug mod to force this many meteors to appear at once. Before I see more concrete evidence, I refuse to believe.

I had a particularily tragic meteor attack recently. I just booted up my first game with Generations and spent hours creating a perfect family for it. As soon as I load up I send the dad to get a job and go back to the rest of the family. A shadow appears over them and in seconds the entire family is dead. The dad comes home and is scarred for life. Needless to say I stared and the screen for atleast 5 minutes then raged hard. I didnt see the message since a story progression mod had left a ton of messages and I didnt feel like looking at them (*facepalm*)

I have never had a meteor-- ever. I had forgoten that that was a possibility. With my story progression mod, I have had a lot of deaths, but not meteors. What a great story you have. I'm jealous.

Wow these meteor attack images is really devastating! I had experience once only with meteor attack while my time playing the Sims 3. My experience of it was minor incident and the meteor was really small. I don't wish to see these large scale ones happen to my Sims 3. Although it's just a game, but yeah still tragic.

Something similar happened me yesterday.
My sims had just moved in to the house, they were living rather peacefully, they were expecting a second child and their son had just grown into a child.
On his first day of school the schoolbus never came to pick him up, so he got late, so he rode his bike to school instead.
I decided to enroll him in ballet class (he was athletic, ballet is rather challenging). Right as he had walked in and was in the middle of signing up for it, BAM a meteor struck the school. Amusingly enough only he died.
The father came and collected the meteor.
Since I've seen him taking a bath and sleeping above his little sister in the bunk bed. I was thinking about someday possibly reviving him. Till then he's buried in the garden next to his treehouse.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Generations has upped the chance/risk of meteors. After all, I installed the EP this week and voila, the first meteor I have -ever- had in all the time the game has been out.
Oh, on a note, the warning for me was "Angelica is wondering why it suddenly got so dark." -- and then everyone was staring at the sky. That was when I decided that everyone needed to visit Shang Simla market -- STAT.
Sadly, the paparazzi survived.

I got that same message, but I couldn't put my finger on what caused it until it was too late.

I've had about six or seven meteor attacks with the same household. To be honest, I'm getting really really sick of them. Cool the first time, but now I wish they would stop.

For information, it has been found that excessive meteor attacks can be caused by outdated mods.
