 Proms - How do you get them to work?/Questions about it.

I have two teens, Bella and Michael and well.. I want them to go to prom. Has anyone got to experience prom yet? What is it like? Is there a way to make one happen because Michael is close to aging and I want him to get a prom with his girlfriend Kaylnn

I got a notification when my teen could go to prom telling him that it's coming up on X day and he should try and find a date. After that you're able to ask another teen to prom. My game crashed before I could get there though so haven't actually seen prom. |

I've been to one prom so far. When I installed Generations my oldest teens were only a few days from their birthdays, but I got lucky to get a pop up about a 'formal dance' happening that Friday. Which was the day before my oldest teen's birthday. You just ask someone to prom, and you get a map tag over the school like an opportunity. When the prom time comes, you can click on the school or the map tag and choose 'go to prom' and a limo comes for your Sims. They go into the school and you get pops up while they are in there telling you how it's going. For the younger child in my house, after she turned teen she got a prom notice, but the prom was scheduled for the day after her YA birthday, so she wasn't able to go. Since her boyfriend had aged up a few days before, I didn't mind so much. (you can't ask a YA to prom). In the days before the prom while she was still a teen, another boy from school called and asked her to prom, so if you don't get a date yourself, you might get called for one. |

After your sims have been to prom, make sure to check their inventories  Also, if your sim asks another to prom and then their date grows up to a YA, they will still go, which I thought was very cool. |

Prom is totally random and you get little popups and notifications telling you how it went. I had one sim, Carson, who got to go twice (once after he aged up and then again after his younger brother aged up... I guess the game wanted to make sure they both got to go early on in their teenage lives?), and the first time he took Bella Bachelor because she was a really good friend of his. She said yes, and during the prom I got a notification that "While slow dancing, Bella looked into Carson's eyes and asked if he would like to go steady!" So they've been boyfriend and girlfriend ever since. It also comes up with some silly little notifications like "Carson's been getting Bella punch all night... she's quite impressed!" Or "Carson and Bella are really making an impression on the other students with their dance moves!"And it tells you if your sim gets prom queen or king. Carson and Bella got it both times. Though I'm really not sure if they randomly pick sims or if there's some kind of criteria (both have a lot of friends and are both good students). |

They don't have to be good students, because my teen was a d average and he made prom king. It might be that they have to know a lot of people, and I think there may be something trait-related in there too... at least, there should be! If your sim is a loser, he or she probably shouldn't be prom king or queen. :P |

I don't think they NEED a date. And finally two days before Bella was going to age up I got the prom pop-up. Sadly it was wicked lame and Mortimer didn't even wear a tux, so the prom photo was ugly. Oh well!

Yes you can go solo. I thought that Prom was really sweet, I've only had one but their were six kids so I had a lot of experiences. This happened with the two dates I formed, they started the night as a very low relationship but then it said they were going steady and it shot them up to like 100 LTR. Another one had a bad prom experience, apparently her date (which I didn't know she had) left her and she felt very rejected. The other daughter had a date (which I didn't know she had, doesn't the game tell you if someone asks them to the prom) and they formed a relationship also. The only sim I'm still questing is Logan, he went solo and then in his picture (sims get a little prom picture with their date) he's in his underwear 0.o |

I have no idea what the criteria for prom king is, but my sim was voted prom king despite 1. not knowing any other teens except for maybe like one, 2. being rejected by his crush to dance. Twice. (He went stag) 3. Wearing casual clothes to the dance? Although I saw him change beforehand, in his picture he's in his everyday wear. Afterwards, apparently some guy was impressed by his dance moves, so they are now going steady. Sooooo... yeah. Apparently the game doesn't factor in sexual preferences when your sims are at prom? Lol :P |

I read somewhere that the more friends the sim has, the higher the chance they'll be prom king/queen but you can be prom king/queen without having any friends, I think. Of the three sims I've sent to prom, two had dates, one went stag (and got in a fight and got a prom fight moodlet, iirc. It was awesome) and the one who went stag got Prom King but the other two didn't get any. I think Charismatic, Ambitious and Friendly traits have some kind of effect on the prom king/queen thing, but I'm not entirely sure what.

In my game, my sim's sister (who I moved out because I couldn't be bothered dealing with triplets..) phoned and asked her to the prom. I thought it was cute that they could go together but they ended up "gazing into eachother's eyes" and as romantic interests... what? |

One of my teen sims went to prom. I didnt realize she had to ask someone with her so she went alone. After she came back she was sad because she was in a fight and at the same time she was also a prom queen or something and everyone loved her. |

I just got the prom notification. Again. She's already been to one prom. The only good thing is that, if I only I get Sebastian Striker to stand still long enough to ask him (he works from 4 or something, so it has to be that one hour between school and work) then they'll probably go steady afterwards. Which is cool. Her birthday is the same day as the prom, which will be... interesting. |

My sim Grace went to her first prom today. She decided to ask her best friend to be her date because there was no one that she liked at that time and I figured that her best friend wouldn't turn her down. During the prom I get a notification saying that he asked her to go steady whilst they were slow dancing and she said yes. Thing is, she only asked her friend because there was no one she liked at that the time, I really didn't want them to start dating. Not only is he fairly aesthetically challenged but he's also been flirting with Grace's other best friend too! This is gonna get messy.... I found it hilarious that Grace was voted prom queen since she's pudding faced and has pink hair....I guess the epic teen party that she threw the night before prom might have earned her a few votes.  Oh and I love the little photograph souvenirs they bring back where they are posing with their dates. So cute! |

I was playing with Sam Sekemoto today and apparently he has the Insane trait, so he decided to go to prom in his athletic wear. Halfway through I get a notification that says "Sam's prom picture is awesome!" I looked at it, and it was him in neon green sweatpants and a grey t-shirt throwing two thumbs up to the camera. And he STILL got prom king and his crush started to get interested in him because of his "killer dance moves" (even though she turned down every request he ever made to ask her to prom or even to ask her to go to the diner for some lunch). How does that boy do it. |
