Before installing the new patch..my husband's game worked fine. After installing the latest patch he is unable to use his speed keys 1-3. He is not able to take photo's or video's as he can't use his capture (C) button either. He has a clean game and doesn't use any mods or downloads (which is why we have seperate games..lol) I have searched this forum and others extensively, but it doesn't appear that anyone else is having this issue. I even went to Dell's website to see if this is an issue with laptops, but so far nothing has worked. I have tried turning on and off every function key and num lock key possible. If anyone has any ideas or solutions they would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently having the same issue, but unlike your husband I have plenty of downloads! I didn't have this problem before now, so I have no idea what is causing this. Unfortunately, after lots of frustration I uninstalled everything, losing my saved games and all. Sadly, after I reinstalled the game I've discovered that the issue still remains.

If you have a file called WorldPresets.ini in Documents\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 then try deleting it.

I have the same problem! Its stopping me from building cool pools, turning marble floors, and using everything Generations offers! i cleaned out EVERYTHING, and its still there. When i post in the Sims 3 Technical Fourms, nobody pays attention. ):
I guess we have to suck it up cause EA trys to "fix" everything.. Arrghhhh

Well , after doing some research and posting on the sims 3 fourms, I got this answer...and it worked!

I gave these instructions to Xur28 and they worked for her:

go to start -> type in msconfig -> enter -> startup -> and uncheck GID desktop application -> apply -> restart
