While browsing CAS this morning and drooling over the new defaults I downloaded the other night I noticed some of the base game and EP clothes that I wasn't able to replace and (after throwing up a little in my mouth) I decided to have a mini-bitch attack and share some of my thoughts on this fashion faux pas.

Let's start with style. With the exception of H&M Stuff and some of the more recent expansion packs, 60% of the clothes in this game are in desperate need of a one-way trip to hell where they can forever burn. That includes shirts, pants, skirts and entire outfits that try to pass as Everyday wear.

It's hard to mix and match sometimes because we don't have enough tops and bottoms in solid colors. And the few that are available to us come with unnecessary accessories. Here are some examples of Epic Fail Wear:

Black sleeveless top for females with arm warmers (Base Game)
Sarong-type bottom that resembles a straitjacket (Base Game)
Decent skirt with fugly boots/shoes for females (Base Game)
Pair of pants for males with waist so high it could make your family jewels cry (Base Game)
Clothes for teen males that can't decide if they want to work out that day or go fishing (Base Game)
Pants for teen females even their ancestors wouldn't be caught dead in (Base Game)
Super-baggy hooded sweatshirt with cargo pants and sandals (Base Game)
Punk outfit for males with tattoos that disappear when they go to bed (Uni)
Green pants for females that make her look like she'd just gotten a wedgie (NL)
Cleavage-y biker jacket (NL)
Nice dresses with unnecessary ankle bracelets (OFB)
Clothes that make you think Chanel or Star Trek? (AL)

And let's not forget the outfits that range from boring to bizarre:

Dress that can't decide if it wants to be black or gray (Base Game)
Tucked in shirts for adult and teen males (Base Game)
Teen clothing that even teens in the 90s would consider dated (Base Game)
Leopard print anything (Base Game)
White fur coat over black dress with knee-high boots (Base Game)
Hooded sweatshirt and board shorts for males (Base Game)
Rave kimono that looks like it was used to wipe a unicorn's butt (NL)
Pink athletic wear for females (Freetime)

That's just a few of what I can't stand to see in my game. It would have been nice if we had gotten simple outfits instead. Simple and timeless.

i only agree that there are limited colours for some clothes (shirts, trousers, outfits) i once tried to maker lara croft without using cc, i searched for some shorts with boots but no luck

i would like to criticise some dresses like the one Cassandra Goth wears. Elegant Dress with Bike Boots (or whatever they're called)? WT...?

i wonder why the ps2 sims 2 had seperate shoes from pants while the pc sims 2 is not thats not fair!!!!! its because there some clothes with mismatching shoes

I don't like Cassandra Goth's dress either, especially with that hairstyle. And sometimes the wrong pair of shoes can make an entire outfit look totally off.

Having also just replaced a large chunk of the dreaded Eaxis wear (as you know), although I found replacements for some of the items you mentioned through that series of links.

One of my most hated outfits that I still have not found a replacement for is for males from the NL EP.

Full outfit with ugly pants, tank like top and some sort of purse thing. I think it's supposed to be a rave outfit or something but it is full on ugly. I can't imagine anyone, anywhere ever wore such an atrocity.

One of the things I discovered was if you replace an item that you have recolors of then the recolors no longer work. Makes sense I just wasn't thinking along those lines until I noticed it. I found some replacements for the super ugly male shorts but I have shorts from Fanseelamb that are essentially recolors that get a lot of use in my game. So I didn't replace them they will just remain an item not used.

I know this game came out a a while back but most of the clothes aren't just dated that are just straight up ugly and in some cases way to reveling.

On the plus side, making everything really ugly is a great way to hawk stuff packs that are already overpriced.

I know exactly which outfit you're talking about.

I think it's based on some of the clothes from the Urbz console game. It had a club where everyone wore neon colors...lol. That outfit would feel right at home over there, but not in a regular Sims 2 game. At least not mine anyway.

I like Fanseelamb's clothes and recolors too. I have 4 of her cowboy outfits as default replacements and they look way better than the Eaxis ones.

There are some great creators like CatOfEvilGenius, who is well known on MTS for her makeover of clothes that need some big help. Cat have done makeover on some of the very clothes, that "Alley Gaytor" screenshots is showing above. ( in Post #1 ) As well as replacement defaults for some of the clothes, good to check this creator work out CatOfEvilGenius had done tons of work on clothes of maxis. And yes another creator Fanseelamb's is in that rank as well. There are so many other creators on MTS as well as other Sims site that have done a Maxis clothes makeover.

But you will find plenty of creators on MTS that have done so CatOfEvilGenius and Fanseelamb's is the two that came to my mind first who is known for during this. Also I would like to say knowing that we love our Sims 2 and some of the clothes may be outdated, I guess we have to learn ( ourselves ) or just search for other creator recolors or makeover and downloads. It do not bother me because one of my weakness is downloading beautiful custom clothes. Half of the time I rarely use maxis clothes just a few I really like, and I do use the two creators I mention recolors and defaults replacement for maxis clothes that seen to go no where. Well I do have some poor Sims that have no choice but to wear those clothes.

Nevertheless, his stories are rather amusing. I put "ugliest" in quotes, because they are considered "ugly" by the measure of the first post of this thread.

I personally do not mind the majority of Maxis clothing. I have the base game, Open For Business, H&M Fashion, and Kitchen&Bath Interior Design, and I can tolerate all except a few that are just too... alternative? One outfit from the base game that looks like an eyesore is the cheetah-print dress for adult females with tall black boots and a very low neckline to the point that it shows the midriffs. I have never thought about how I could actually use it in my game.

At first I was okay with base game clothing but after a while I realized that it took too much work to try and dress my sims a certain way. If I wanted to recreate a friend in real life or a character from my favorite TV show I wouldn't be able to capture their style with the base game alone. Not every guy would wear sandals with every outfit but we see a lot of those in the base game (with cargo pants and t-shirts). I think the flip flops with shorts and striped collared shirts in the H&M pack make more sense.

Sometimes I feel like I am playing a themed game even though I play modern neighborhoods because I find myself needing CC just to have characters that look like they belong in this century (or this planet).

This is probably why H&M clothing is popular. The clothes from that stuff pack are based on real clothes that real people wear. Or at least the type of clothes you'd stumble upon when window shopping. With just the base game and the earlier packs I always found myself thinking, "If only my sim had this..."

And I agree with you on that leopard print outfit. There are no words for it.

I never liked the maxis clothing. I especially hated the thong sandals with too many clothes and sim females with their midriffs exposed in the majority of separates and full outfits. I am so glad my cc loads before the maxis stuff. Sometimes, I still want to scream from horror when I get to the back of the catalog where all the maxis stuff is. Most especially for maxis hair which looks so weird wax-textured.

I was gonna default replace the maxis hair with Aquilegia's hairs, but then I couldn't figure out which to install because I don't think I'd use the base game hair even if default replaced with new textures, animations where needed, and better colors. I've just gotten so used to the higher quality hair (and MUCH more colorful for my alien sims) I get from Garden of Shadows and some LJs.

I love my game more and more because it is so different now than the maxis stuff. I remember buying Glamour Life and stupidly thinking my sims would finally have some decent clothes to wear AND get matching furniture sets. NOT! I refused to buy any more stuff packs because I don't want my sims game clogged up with even more stuff I can't even tolerate. Plus, why keep paying my money for CRAP!

I know some players actually like the pre-made clothing and hair. And sometimes I like to look through the picture threads and see a bunch of looks that are obviously all-maxis or maxis match. Afterward, I can't wait to immerse myself in my own anti-maxis game.

Awww, I actually like the modern kimono from Nightlife from the pics you posted. But yeah, I guess people have different perceptions about what they like or don't like.

Personally I don't mind having 'fugly' clothes. I wouldn't want my townies to get too fabulous. If everyone looks fab, it would be too unrealistic for me. I only let my playables wear the good Maxis stuff and the CC I download.

I don't really get why lots of players like H&M stuff too much. I have it and I only had a few Sims who wear clothes from that pack. They weren't that terrible, but it wasn't too stellar either. They should have made a Forever 21 stuff pack instead.

I said a bow string, not a G -- oh, never mind.

The kimono would have been alright without the things around the ankles. And it could use another arm. Like I said, some outfits have unecessary accessories attached to them and we can't even take them off.

It's one thing to have a few fuglies in CAS but if more than half the clothes are dated or too outlandish, it's going to make creating a sim difficult, especially when you have a particular style in mind. I liked the simple patterns on the H&M clothes and it was nice to have jeans for men that came with shoes for once. And converse.

And yes, they should have made a Forever 21 pack. They seem to do better when creating objects and clothing based on ones in real life.

I like the two AL outfits and punk University outfit you called "ugly" and never liked any of the outfits found in H&M stuff, my reason for never having bought it. I agree with a lot of those, though. I rarely use basegame outfits, but to be fair, I love dressing my sims as if they're straight out of a fantasy or sci-fi novel. I guess it boils down to taste. Anyway, the uninspiring EAxis stuff is why I have so much CC.

Not everyone uses cc to make their sims dress in "fabulous" clothes. I for one, want my sims' attire to be less like something drug-induced when I play a modern game.

I make my own custom townies so I want them to look good as well. Otherwise it would be like having a kid and sending the kid to an insane asylum to be dressed. I don't make all my sims look like they are on a model runway, because I like some sims to have tattered clothing, some are dressed better, and some just have a different look. As long as it makes sense. Like all those orphan kids that roam the streets in the game, I make them look like poor orphans instead of like suburban brats.

At one time, when I didn't want to download a lot of cc, I also used cc just for "my" sims. However, all the walkby sims and sims visiting the community lots was like my sims visiting a nightmare. And it made it horrible when I wanted to take a picture of my sims. I thought the clothes they wore were much more ugly than their faces. I was always telling my sims, no, you can't talk to that sims, wait until a better-dressed sim comes along. None came.

That was when I'd had the last straw and decided my next hood would be dressed in approved cc only. All sims. But I still hate it when my sims grow up into a hideous outfit each and every time.

I only have a few clothing default replacements in my game. Most are medieval. It's amazing to me just how many downloads I'd have to have to get all the maxis stuff completely out of my sight. I don't know how people keep track of their default replacements. Without very careful attention, some could overlap.

I rarely ever dress my sims up in separate shirts and bottoms. I usually only dress them up in the H&M outfits. The base game clothes are awful.

Now see that's kind of funny I can tolerate the Maxis stuff more then the H&M stuff

If they had default replacements of those outfits in better colors, because I like most of the outfit meshes themselves, rather then a totally different outfit replacing it I would be happy.

The reason I added the punk outfit from Uni to my list wasn't because I hated the look. I personally think it would fit a punk sim. What I didn't like were the tattoos that disappeared when they changed clothes. It would have been a decent outfit if Eaxis hadn't bothered to slap on those tattoos.

So whenever a "punk" sim goes swimming or changes into PJs, the tattoos disappear because they were attached to that particular outfit. Now to so punk now, right?

If you want for your punk Sims to have tattoos when they go swimming or change into PJs and still show maybe you should try the facial tattoos. Just go to Boby shop, then to Makeup and there you will see the option for tattoos, some very interest ones are there, to check out.

One tattoos Creator is Holly the best part is it is "Not A Skin that cover the complete Sims body you can remove off and on your Sims, and it is found in your Sims game in the section for "Costume makeup.

Thanks guys, but I'm not bothered by not having tattoos for my sims. I just think that it was a bad idea to give that particular outfit tattoos only to have them disappear when the sim changes into PJs, undies and swimwear. What EAxis should have done was left the shirtless punk bare (and given us the option to add tattoos later).

I love those outfits, too. And yeah, H&M was kinda bland. I was really expecting something great from it like high fashion or flashy party outfits.

I never said I used CC to make my Sims fab. I download CC so that my playables would be more unique (townies never spawn with custom content clothes, after all).

That's the best thing about all the fabulous CC available for TS2 it allows everyone to find a style they like. As for the questionable outfits that Eaxis choose to give us even if you like some of them sometimes it's just good to have a change. I really like the punk girl outfit from Uni but I found an alternate at GOS that is just a tad hipper that I snagged for a default.

Funny I don't use CC to make my Sims dress fab either, mostly it's to make them dress comfortably, or what would be comfortable to me anyway.

I agree that Maxis had no idea what they were thinking when they made some of these outfits.. But keep in mind that some things are supposed to be gothic, sporty and the usual stereotyping..

I actually like the default outfits that came with the game, the thing I don't like is the chosen textures for the clothes. If they were given better textures, the clothes would be better. That goes with the hair also. While the hairstyles are great, the textures are just pathetic compared to what custom hair has to offer.

I love the clothes xD. I've tried using custom clothes but they never stay in my downloads folder for that long.

There are some definite fugly clothes, but ever since I was a kid I've worn fugly clothes so it doesn't bother me too much. P:

I must say I was impressed by the OFB clothes collection. There are a lot of 'realistic' choices which I can easily imagine people wearing from different ages.

A lot of custom clothes, I have found, is what you'd expect celebrities and super models to wear. Whereas I like the simple, wear-it-for-a-week outfits. P:

Maxis had hidden some clothes for the base game, they different in colour, this is the link: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=166246

it seems to me that simsbaby is more interested in finding the hidden stuff, ok back to your subject maybe those colours would help unfuglify the clothes you hate

in the link, one of the clothes was worn by Dina and Nina's mother
