Thanks for the tip, Riley.

I'm reluctant to be a guinea pig, so I'll probably won't even be upgrading to Lion until I learn it has something new I absolutely cannot live without!

I have Osx 10.7 installed already and have been playing TS3 since it got done installing around noon. Haven't had any issues thus far. Just a thought but it could have been reports from people using the beta version of Osx 10.7.

Don't matter the reason, we don't support its use, period.
It creates more trouble than it's worth, when it comes to updating the game.

Like now, your case in point - is it the new OSX 10.7 to blame or the crack? Where do you start troubleshooting? Because you can't load the game without the crack, can you?
Especially in light of @ApocalypseV's success story?

Some moderator you are… making people feel like crap? I understand that you guys don't support it, but what? Let my $50 go to waste? I THINK NOT.

Now I'm sorry to be a little ***** on you right now, but FYI, others who aren't using the crack and are on Lion are also having problems… So don't get me started. <<-- this is my point.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize my contract requires me to cheer people up in addition to helping them with their game. I have to renegotiate this extra duty with Delphy & HP asap! Oh, wait! I don't have a contract... Duh.

You seem to be missing my point: This is Forum Policy.
We cannot help people who uses cracks because it is impossible to troubleshoot. How do you know the cracks are not the root of the issue when you cannot even start the game without it to rule it out?

If you want to argue the fine points of its legality, morality and how financially justified you are in using it, we have such threads in the Debate Room, and you can argue the pros and cons till the cows come home.

But not in Help. And this is done. We're veering offtopic.

Think "respect for others"… It has its exclusions too you know.

And my point is, I'm not the only one having problems… Others running Lion AND not using the crack are having problems too. <<-- take the "crack" out of the question and think about using The Sims 3 "legally"… They're having problems too. <<-- this was my point from my last post anyways. Stick to it.

By the way, I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything… (without Late Night of course)… I've tried running the game using the WA disc, and it still freezes every time I move from floor to floor.

Hey,
I've got OS X Lion and The Sims 3, too. All original. Nothing cracked or stuff like that. I've got the same issues with that combination. Each time I'm starting TS 3 it crashes during the first seconds when entering the household.

Any suggestions how to solve that crap ?

Thanks!

EA has already confirmed that The Sims 3 is not compatible with Lion. They've acknowledged the problem, now, it's time for them to fix it. They better get to an update soon!

@KS929, and when did I dispute this fact? This is the whole premise of the thread after all.

The point was that I cannot use any data you provide - its useless to the statistics. I understand that you felt upset when I don't want to waste my time troubleshooting while you're the only one with the problem that had shown up on this thread.

Now that others have turn up, I can post my questions so they may provide some data and we can see if any patterns emerge.

  • Mac System Details:
    • What model #?, 24", Early 2008
    • Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    • RAM: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    • Previous OSX version: The latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6.something)
  • Game details:
    • What games and game versions? (remove the ones you don't have)
      • Base Game = 1.22.9.011001
      • World Adventures = I've tried running with this EP WITH AND WITHOUT an update, but it didn't work and I didn't take the version number. I currently have it uninstalled from my computer.
    • Sunset Valley
    • No Custom Content
    • I've tested on a cc-free, new game, but it still froze after a few seconds into the actual gameplay.
  • Problem details:
    • I start via Launcher
    • The screen froze a few minutes into the gameplay. (usually when I move from floor to floor.
    • I've tested on a fresh install of The Sims 3 (base game) without updating and it worked fine. After updating, it started freezing again, so I decided to reinstall the base game and WA (still no updates on either game), but it still froze. So all what really worked for me is the base game without any updates. Switching for full screen to windowed didn't work either, but at least I didn't have to force shut down my computer and possibly breaking it.
    • My game WORKED until I updated (after reinstall [only with base game])

^^ I hope this can contribute to finding the solution to the problem.

BluebellFlora from the official forums @ this BBS thread has compiled a list of those whose games do not work have the Geforce 9400 card.

-- eta --
Those who have NOT updated to Lion (but plan to) and are still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, could you please try first updating the graphics drivers:
They say for Quadro cards, not Geforce, but if you look at the Supported Products Tab, the Geforce cards are listed.
They are only for Snow Leopard 10.6.8, that's why you have to do this before updating to Lion 10.7. I believe the Lion versions may be forthcoming, but first Apple needs to know of the issues with certain cards before they can inform Nvidia, so that may take a while.

Even if you don't plan on upgrading to Lion, see if these drivers help with the "Case of the disappearing hair" issue on SL 10.6.8.

So that means us Mac users who upgraded to Lion without updating the graphics drivers are out of luck until Apple or NVIDIA releases an update to fix this problem?

Hey guys I'm not sure if its a Lion problem with it being incompatible or what but the sims has been saying "unknown error occurred" after updating.
I say I'm not sure if its a Lion problem because back before i upgraded to Lion (On Snow Leopard) I would get an error saying something about an "incompatible game modification is installed" when i had none.

@Hellow707,
are you starting via Launcher? Try starting via ts3w.exe directly - see Game Help:TS3 Bypassing the Launcher#OS_Xwiki. And test with new user files, too (step#3 of the Game Problem FAQ - see link in my signature).

Is that with new user files?

You may need to Repair Permissions and delete Preferences, steps here http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/86730.page

If that didn't solve it, and as that is a Windows-specific error - Svc Init Failure errors are about the Windows Registry, you may need to do a full reinstall to fix it.

Mmm I've tried that but i can't seem to find The Sims 3 in the Preferences folder. Im not sure if its a Lion thing? But yeah when i go to that directory there isn't a "The Sims 3" folder.
Ive tried reinstalling it, uninstalling it through the installer and with AppCleaner and it still doesn't work :/

I thought patch 1.25 helps some? It didn't work for you?

Or, you haven't patched to 1.25? Are you on 10.7.0 or 10.7.1?

Mac OS X 10.7.2 (11C74; Lion)
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB

Ever since I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion The Sims 3 wouldn't even start the launcher, its icon hops three times on the dock and then disappears again. I then uninstalled The Sims 3 and all stuff packages and expansions too. Reinstalled the base game, which initially started up the launcher. However after I updated to the latest patch, it wouldn't even start the launcher anymore ... again
So far I've not been able to find any fixes nowhere...

Yeah, it doesn't start automatically for me. I have to go to applications and actually click on it.

But I'm here to report another lovely problem with Sims 3 and Lion. I had been doing fine after getting the patch, until I got ANOTHER patch and then edge smoothing didn't work anymore. All my other graphics I could have as high as I wanted and everything was dandy.

Well, I was stupid and downloaded an update for my Macbook Pro. I now have Lion 10.7.2. DONT DO IT. Now I can't even zoom in on my Sims without their clothes going freaky and sparkly and nude colored. And their eyes are scary as hell. I'm about to sell this computer I thought would be great because all I wanted to do was play Sims 3 on it and it seems to be able to do anything but.
