Hi Guys!!!

So basically I've been building this house slowly... I had 3 separate houses when my Sims moved in (i cheated slightly, but only let them live in one house) and as theyve got richer I've 'knocked' walls through and given them more space. There's just something about it that doesnt seem right yet. I dunno if I havent put enough detail into it or something but its really bugging me. I enjoy the front view but theres just...something missing.

I'll put photos of the other floorplans up a bit later as The Sims isnt on atm and I'm being shouted at to hang my washing out IRL xD

Any Suggestions are more than welcome :D

Cheers

I'll also put up the version of what it looked like before they moved in (at some point) and put furniture etc in it so people can use it for what they like

I love it, it's whimsical and modern whilst remaining regal. :D

Well I love everything I can see, so maybe I'll chime in a bit later once you get up more screens, or floorplans w/e.

Mix and match is what these people of yours do? If my family stayed in a house like this for a very long time, we would not try and make it modern. We would stick with old as far as possible. If you want it to be more new in an old house, perhaps separate the old livingroom from the new diningroom/kitchen? The greyish color you have on the new walls is not what I would use, at least not alone. I would probably rather go for brownish colors on this old house. Everything from cremy beige to dark brown. Mix and match is very difficult, much easier to use just one style.

On the outside I think your doing much better. At the front the asfalt you use on the ground is bugging me. There's too little texture to it. Some stones would be better.
The fence you use for the outside staircases is the Egypt thingi? At least color it the same color as the posh federal fence or what it's name is. You have a basement on this house? Just try and disguise the Egypt fence pole by some darker recolors. If you can't find a fence matching the federal one, just skip a fence by the staircase. I just can't come up with an answer to the fence issue right now.

If I was to make such mix and match rooms I would probably keep some old feature's like you have, new color on walls with old or oldish paintings. If you want a modern kitchen I would keep details along roof and floor and some old picture's, and again have a different color on the furnishings. If furniture is new I would make them very new. Like glass and steel perhaps, or maybe not for this house. Not let them kind of pass as old furniture with some missing details if you get me. You're doing this contiously, so don't let people think you don't know what you doing.

I hope this was good?

Thought I'd let you know that my first impression of this lot was literally a very wide eyed expression. To put that into perspective, I've never done that before.. Hell, ask anyone, I don't dole out big compliments with ease.. I usually have something to pick on.. But..

That second picture is breathtaking. I do have 1 question.. I know that those windows are from here, at MTS, right? But.. I was under the impression that we couldn't get them anymore.. I thought they were removed..

Also, is that a palm tree I see on the roof? Kinda iffy if it is Uhm.. also, the thing that might be throwing you off is the loppsided-ness of it all.. Like, in the second screenshot, it gives the impression that its getting smaller on one side as it goes up, but staying flat on the other (gets smaller on the right side). But.. I dunno. Its just a suggestion, its not really bothering me.. Just was thinking it could be whats bothering you.

I didn't see you there. Hello. *runs* | Visit my CFF World thread

i was thinking grey doesnt work... but I always always use beige and brown and wanted to be a bit different, but you're right its not the greatest.
on the front that isnt asphalt, it just looks like it cuz my graphics card is rubbish. its stretcher bond tiling, big ol' grey tiles cuz i couldnt think of anything else.
and fence by which staircase? ive got so many on here you've confused me :P

TVR, I got them from somewhere else, I'm obviously gonna have to find them. they were a recent download, but none of the windows were from MTS. Im pretty sure the windows on the back are from einfach simlisch (or something very similar to that) and i honestly cant remember where the other ones are from.
i agree with you about the lopsidedness of it. i cant remember how to get an extra floor on top of what ive got though haha. the only reason i left that right hand side off is because i cudnt make the chimney go on top of the roof. also it made a kinda nice terrace. lol yeah its a palm tree but a potted one from buy mode. like rich people have to show off i may scrap it though :D

also THANKYOU!!!

Outside the fitting fence for this house is the federal one with iron details Beside each staircase you use the egyptian one probably because you can't have the federal there.

Sorry I keep coming back on the same post. On the outside I think most people would have to take nabours and regulators into account, so perhaps the same stones as in the back yard?

PS: the windows are madaya74, TSR

Picture no3, the staircase from the porch? You just use the staircase with fence. Always skip the fence when you build a staircase. Choose fence for the staircase yourself

The grey could work, but you know there's grey and then you have grey. It's all about finding the right shade.

THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN
the front is jaw-dropping, and i love your idea of only living in one third of it and punching through to other rooms as your sims get richer! I agree with Volvenom about keeping lots of traces and touches of oldness to it. but i think you can mix them tastefully! i also think that the back roof looks... weird. too sloped and not as nice as the front. i don't know what is bothering me about it, maybe it's just me

whoaa cheers :D

yeah i think ima totally redo the inside to look less...i dont even know the word for it. but make it more traditional, but modern. lol

the back roof? as in the monopitched roof? on the little extensions? the back isnt meant to look as nice as the front, as that was always the case with these houses, the fronts looked beautiful, and the backs were...average!! studying architecture makes me lame and understand things xD

Yea like houses in London. Looks very nice along the street, but take away 1 brick and the hole house falls down lol.

Just forgot to mention 1 thing. You can move the chimneys with moveobjects on cheat. Be careful where you put the top smoking part

Aw, I really liked the modern renovations that were in-place in the original interior. The new version is much more tradition and I guess it sticks with the same style but I feel like it's lost something.

Having said that, I do prefer the new exterior. :D

I think the ones on the façade are freebies from The Sims Resource, I think I had them myself at some point.

Very nice! I really like it's quirkiness! Especially all the different levels. The only thing that concerns me -- and it may have been done in that time period -- are the two half gables angled onto the flat roof at the back. In real life all the rain water would pour down onto that flat roof and probably leak like crazy! I think it might be too modern of a treatment for an old house unless you consider it a remodel. Great work!

haha dont let it concern you! i study architectural technology so i can safely tell you that if this was real life, there'd be recesses in the flat roof underneath where the half gables meet it that act as gutters leading to a proper gutter on the side of the building! also I'd meant for the little flat roof to be a modern addition, as you can see it would be on the boundary of two of the houses so it wouldnt have been there when it was 3 separate homes!

i have put WAY too much thought into the story for this for once, though thats only because I'm actually building it as a story with sims living in it as it happens.

and scoopy i know what you mean, but this is the kinda style i usually do, beige and wood and generally very neutral, so at least i know what I'm doing with it this time also i haven't put any furniture or anything in it yet so it wont look amazing till I'm finished, though that wont be till thursday now cuz im at work 10am till midnight for the next 3 days

I looks extremely lovely. I absolutely love the patterns you've used. The only thing that strikes me is that I enjoyed the uneven facade of the first version more than the consolidated one of the second.
