Hi everyone,

I have two questions to which I can't really find an answer to. Am hoping some of the more experienced simmers out there would know.

The first is: can YA sims get abducted the ´natural way´ while they're in a dorm in college? So without cheats, without hacks and without a full knowledge aspiration or hobby meter (summon aliens / watch for UFO's)?

The second question is: I've never ever in the years I've been playing seen this happen, but there's a piece of writing on this website where they state a sim can be abducted using the electrosphere dance cube. Fact or fiction? Quote below:

Quote:
If you have The Sims 2: Nightlife expansion Pack, then your sims can also get abducted if they have ten body points and dance fast in the Electro Dance Sphere.2 There is an animation of the electric currents swirling around in the middle of the dance sphere, and the sim disappears.

Thanks everyone

1. In my experience, there is no restriction for YA Sim to get abducted in dorms. They can be abducted normally, but they just won't get pregnant.
2. I've heard a lot about that as well, and not only from one site. It's said that if a Sim has been abducted before, there's a chance the Sim will disappear while using the Electro Dance Sphere, which means he's being abducted. It's also said that the chance is slightly better than using the telescope, unless you can Summon Aliens, of course...

Yes. All sims from Teen to Elder can get abducted the natural way, although without mods only adult males will have a chance at coming back pregnant. However, the natural odds are quite low -- something like 0.5% if I recall correctly, although the summon aliens/watch for UFOs options added in FT increase the odds, and TwoJeffs on Simbology has a mod which increases the odds the longer a sim stargazes.

I've had a sim disappear while spinning. I thought it was a glitch.

I've seen the dance sphere thing happen. Didn't get the sim back for like two in game days because an NPC wouldn't stop playing the sphere. Thank goodness it was over the character's days off.

To make things more interesting in my game I installed a hack that allows females to become pregnant upon abduction.

So if this does happen, a sim isn't returned through a UFO, but has to return in the sphere? Interresting! Thank you :D

That article you linked actually has some great info! Nice to see someone accurately debunking, rather than promoting, the alien "myths", for a change.

However, the part in the article about the Dance Sphere abduction does lack the very important info that it only works for sims who've been abducted before, by telescope. It would suck to waste whole sim lives trying to get a first abduction via Dance Sphere. (Also, the sim MUST be in Hard Mode on the Sphere - that's true. [eta: Or maybe not. According to the article M.M.A.A. linked, Medium Mode might also work?] So a certain amount of body skill is needed. Not hard to get, though.)

@nickel23
Dance Sphere abductions are actually a lot more likely than non-cheat/non-FT telescope abductions. Takes a looooot of spinning, but in my game, a sim kept on the Dance Sphere more or less continuously (with Energizer breaks as needed) has always been taken in about 36 sim hours or less. (Maybe 48, but never more).

I suspect they forgot to (or just didn't care to) reduce the chance of pregnancy with the Dance Sphere when they reduced it for the telescope. I haven't had a ton of D.S. abductions since FT, but in my little sample, pregnancy has been 100%.

The funny thing about D.S. abductions is that it's totally "silent". No one in the household notices the sim has disappeared at all, and neither will the player, if not watching. My daughter had this happen to her years ago. She had created Dr. Who for her game, and was in the process of having him father 26 alien babies as a single dad. One day, he was on the Dance Sphere when one of the existing alien kids needed some attention. She went looking for him, but he wasn't anywhere to be seen. He shortly reappeared, still in the Sphere, and she was quite mystified, but delighted, when she found later that he was pregnant.

ETA: Forgot to mention that Dance Sphere abductions only work once per Sphere, supposedly. I don't know for certain if that's true, because I don't take the chance. I always sell D.S.s that have been used in an abduction, as soon as the abductee returns. Don't want to waste time seeing if I can get a repeat out of that Sphere.

I read the article in your link mmaa - and read this:

If the abducted Sim is an adult male, he will always come back pregnant, so long as he is more
than 5 days from becoming an elder, and there are fewer than 8 household members when he is abducted.

I had an abduction of a male that just had moved into a house in the Neighborhood after finishing University,
the only ones in the house was him and his twin-brother - nobody else. Everything happened the way it
was described - but he did not come back pregnant. So the ALWAYS .. is not intirely true.

Only a couple of days earlier I had another male abducted under the same circumstances - and
he did get pregnant - gave birth to twin-alien boys.

With FT, they reduced the pregnancy odds from 100% (for qualifying males) to... something less than that - I don't know what. One assumes they felt the need to offset the advantage of vastly easier abductions with the FT perk and science hobby enthusiasm with a smaller chance of alien babies resulting from them.
