...yeah.

Well, I have all EP's installed, no stuff packs, no hacks/mods, totally vanilla game.

I was playing this family - 2 adults, 3 teen girls, 1 toddler male and several pets. Basic history - The adults - Calvin and Celeste had been married about 1 sim week when Celeste became pregnant. However, that same day Calvin had an affair with a woman named Molly, and broke up with Celeste, moving in with Molly instead. Celeste gave birth to twin girls - Imogen and Irene, whereas Molly gave birth to one girl - Alaina. When all 3 children were teenagers, Calvin broke up with Molly and remarried Celeste, moving in with her and his twin daughters, but he also brought with him his illgitimate daughter, Alaina, who was best friends with both her half-sisters through school. At this stage all 3 teenagers were near adulthood. The toddler male was born shortly after this eclectic family all moved in together. Note - there was also a butler, 2 horses and a dog. So, just to clarify - Alaina, who had been raised by both her natural parents, decided to move out to live with her dad, her stepmum and her stepsisters while she was a teenager. She had a high relationship with her mother when she left. Her mother was now living on her own, but saw her daughter regularly.

They got near to aging up so the pop-up came up about finding dates for the prom. One came up saying "Alaina has been asked to the prom by Molly Miller! Will Alaina accept?" I accepted instantly, but then thought (isn't miller her mother's surname?) So I went through and checked her friends, realised the only Molly Miller in existance was her mother, so thought - nah, that won't happen.

Then the actual prom. Realised quicky it was her mother but then I thought ah well, kinda cute because she doesn't see her mom often and maybe it'll be a funny thing because she couldn't find a real date? Haven't played the "prom" scenario often so I wasn't sure. But then when the prom ended, while she was still related as mother and daughter on the relationship panel, girlfriend has now been added as well!

Not sure what's going to happen, especially as I've had to move them in together. With the arrival of the male toddler there wasn't enough room for Alaina to continue living with her father so had to move her in with her mother (was the plan anyway before this happened), I couldn't afford to buy her her own place and I'm playing strictly without cheats.

What can I do to rectify the situation? Didn't post it under help because I thought it was one of the oddities of the game rather than a technical fault.

hahhaah I love when these things happen. Unless it completely squicks you out, go with it and think of it as part of the way fringe simmies live.

Fringe simmies live? Not so much fringe as inbreds! Oh dear...

I'm hoping that as they can't romantically interact (well, I hope not, haven't tried) the relationship will decay normally. Either that or Alaina was severely traumatised by her parents breaking up and having to move in with her evil stepmum so has now developed a wierd attachment to her own mother.

Interesting storyline or proof of EA's madness? You decide.

Are you able to have them "break up" (or "just be friends")? That'd be the first thing I'd try... they'll take a relationship hit but that's easily fixed, and I'd say not a bad sacrifice for preventing an even more awkward situation o__o

This is a pretty common bug. For some reason the game seems to pick relatives nearly as often as it picks an appropriate date.

Considering the glitches like this and getting wedding gifts from your pets, I wonder if your pet can ask you to the prom too...

Maybe sim kids are just mean and really harp on that "Hah! You brought your mom to the prom" thing. You'd have to have some really tragic excuse for that to be acceptable.
Also, you can get wedding gifts from your pets? How about strays? Do they buy wedding presents? Wow. I need to go make some animal lover Sims get hitched.

I looked on the family tree, and the mother/daughter/girlfriends relationship is even listed on the family tree. A pink link linking them as well as a blueish one.

Haven't tried to get them to interact yet. Wonder what the family tree would look like if they had kids? Eww..... EA story progression makes me want to burn my harddrive sometimes.

The error you encountered was due to some improper coding in the "Ask To Prom" phone call.

It is not an error in EA Story Progression.

We can still blame EA Story Progression if we want.

Makes you wonder what kind of story EA is trying to tell us.

Yes indeed, that is your right as a free thinking individual.

However, I could blame Bananas for the issue and be equally within my right (and be equally correct as you).

Damn Bananas! Why don't they stop hooking up my relatives with each other!

A sim week or so later, and they're still mother/daughter/girlfriends. However, I got the message yesterday that the mother is nearing death. Hopefully this wierd relationship will quite literally die, leaving the daughter to answer some interesting questions next time she sees her half-sisters at the funeral.

By the way, I blame story progression for keeping them together!

I just love how funny these EA story progression oddities sometimes are. Though, one - when I was still playing vanilla game - wasn't quite that funny. It happened when my young adult sim girl was clubbing the night away and at one point this sim male approached her and they started flirting. It normally would have been ok but this particular male happened to be her uncle. Eww! They even got the "romantic interest" tag in their relationship panels.

They DIDN'T have the ability to romantically interact, but they did have the interaction "break up" which I did, the mother has since died and now the daughter lives on her own. The daughters pretty fugly as well as now a little... inbred... so I think she's gonna spend the rest of her life living with her pets and randomers that story progression moves in with her.

That's what I thought when I saw the post, lol!
Anyways, I'm not sure, but I don't think this has ever happened to me before. I try not to look too deep into things like that, but I'm still scarred just a teensy bit by this...
