Hi, I'm preparing a sim for submission who will be using a custom hair made by me. My plan would normally have been to include the hair in the zip file along with all his other cc, as I've done with all my previous sims who used my own hairs. But in the time following the last sim I uploaded that used my own hair, a later update patch brought about the situation where sims using a custom hair that isn't installed now crash the game, rather than the game automatically substituting a default hair as it previously did, hence we now have to package them in default hair for upload. I just need to know if it's necessary to follow the 'package with default hair' rule if I'm supplying my cc hair in the upload? Is it OK for me to proceed as normal with the way I've packaged my previous sims, or do I need to re-save him to use a default hair and then tell people to switch to the hair that comes in the zip file? I guess maybe as a precaution in case some downloaders forget to install the hair? Thanks! |

You do need to package the sim without the hair, yeah - I know, the crash is bloody annoying, but it still happens, so it's better to be safe rather than sorry. There's also the possibility of someone not having their framework set up properly so the hair isn't read, installing the sim and the hair but then later forgetting that the hair is needed for the sim and uninstalling it because they don't want it, and so on. In future, it's probably better to post question-to-the-moderator type threads in Creator Issues (under the Create menu), so that mods are guaranteed to see the thread.

Thanks, will do! It is a bit of a nuisance, but as you say, better to be safe than sorry! (I wasn't sure whether to ask in Creator Issues or in here, as it was just a quick query. Also in case maybe others might be wondering the same thing.) I wonder why/when/how EA patched out the ability for the game to to automatically replace a missing custom hair with a default one like it used to, and made it so it crashed the game instead?? (This all happened when I was forced to take a long break from creating, so I didn't know about it until recently.) |
