Um I really don't know if this is the right place to be asking this question but I really need some help!!I can’t get my downloads to work. When I download the Sims 2 packages from the official Sims 2 site they go right into my Sims 2 game and the body shop and work just fine. But when I try to download anything else from anywhere else it won’t work . I have read what to do over and over thinking that I have missed something. I do just what the FAQ say to do, I put the downloads in
My documents/EA games/ The Sims 2/Downloads . Still nothing happens and I do have WinZIP for my zipped files. But if they are zipped or not I can’t find the downloads in the game or the body shop anywhere. What am I doing wrong????????????? This is SO frustrating!!!!!! Aggggg! :weep:
Also most of my clothing that have new meshes that I have downloaded from the Sims 2 official site don’t show up in my game or body shop. The sim is dressed in one of Maxis’s original clothes and it has the little custom content star by it, but you can’t see the outfit. Is there something that I can do about that?

PLEEEEEEEASE somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!!! Toodles, Ella :D

Best way I can tell you is to be sure when you download a file, have it download to your desktop.......then you can find it easily......once downloaded on your desktop, open it and extract the file inside to your downloads folder.......that will do the trick.

Hope this helps

You're asking for help or how-to. Moving to Tech Support.

Thanks.

Ella.......if you are using WinRar, just open the WinRAR file and highlight the files within.....then at the top, click "Extract".....then direct it to your downloads folder.......if you are using WinZip, open the zip file and extract to the downloads folder.....

Ok,
1.
Download the zip file.
Save it and 'unzip' it with a program like WinZIP or WinRar.
Put the .package file in your Downloads folder.
(C:/My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads)

2.And alot of new recolors require the CEP file (color-enabling package), because many objects in the game weren't designed to work with the designer panel (they only came in one color, one version).
here; http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?p=119480

3.Here's what Loverat has to say about subfolders;
http://forums.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=46633
(please read carefully, as she has given step by step information about downloading and installing here aswell )

4.you might want to make sure your 'show custom content' button is clicked on. You'll find the option in the game control panel (in game) under the little cog wheels icon.

5. HackScanner and Cleainstaller help you to prevent any unwanted hacks.
Here; http://www.djssims.com/index.php?topic=sims2prog (HackScanner) and
http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/index.php?page=4 (cleaninstaller

6. If you ever need, SimPE is usefull too Here; http://sims.ambertation.de/

Does this help for the beginning?

Thanks Tasha! I was just getting ready to see if my version of CEP was outdated (forgot that one yesterday when upgrading all my tools :argh. Also needed a refresher on the subfolders issue since I downloaded a bunch of stuff and some of it just isn't showing up! Wow...how fast we forget! Take a month away and its like learning everything all over again! I'm such a lost cause!
