I definitely know my game is not crashing due to anything with my actual laptop, it has to be within the game. It is not CC, I haven't downloaded any since my last play, and my last play was perfectly fine. The only change that has been made to my game is I installed a game update, the update released on 2/29/12.

Now, my game opens up to a black screen, with the mouse cursor as the loading symbol.
It then crashes to the desktop with an error message reading:
“It looks like you have installed an unofficial game modification that does not match your current version of The Sims 3. We recommend that you either uninstall these game modifications or get updated versions of them - otherwise you may experience crashes or significant bugs.”
It gives me two options: Quit or Continue.
If I click continue, the game stops responding immediately and my only option is to close it.
I do not know how to remove the update, but if it all possible, I would rather not have to unistall my game.
Also, why is the game patch being called "unofficial?" It was on my sims 3 Game Bin under Downloads! My game is set to automatically update, so it pops up when any update is available.

  • Sims 3 - Incompatible CC
Every time you patch or install a new EP, most of your hacks will need to be updated or removed. If you are having any kind of problem and you've just patched or installed a new EP, remove all your custom content and delete your cache files. Then, unless the problem is specific to one sim or lot, make a new town and see if the issue occurs there too.

If, having done so, the issue is fixed, then you have some incompatible CC. Any hacks - things which change the game's behaviour - are likely suspects and should be updated or removed; things like objects, clothes, hairs etc are generally safe.

Oh I had exactly the same problem. The update frakked up something.
My bf found a fix somewhere, which solved this thing, if you can wait till I get home I can tell you what did I use (I am currently at work).
So, no need to reinstall or remove your CC, don't worry.

Now why did my post dissappeared?
I only said I know a fix for the problem, and that it's not CC related.

It might not be CC related - or it might be. Usually, this problem is caused by out of date CC, although not always: the same problem can (and does) have multiple possible causes.
So, if you can find that fix that worked for you, then great; it's always useful to have solutions and info for as many possible causes as you can. However, assuming that, for the OP, the problem can't be caused by CC; and telling him not to bother testing without CC, when CC is in fact the most likely cause, isn't helpful.

I was just trying to be helpful. Hiding my messages and making me look like an idiot is not a nice thing.

You don't look like an idiot. Often users in this forum aren't particularly techically-minded, and having conflicting or incomplete info in a thread can cause confusion - hiding posts isn't some attack or punishment, it's just to keep things tidy so the OP can find the relevant info in the thread without having to sort through extraneous stuff first.

See if the suggestions there helps (making sure you don't have a core mod hiding someplace) or the scenario applies to you (ie using cracks).

It wasn't CC, or mods, after all. Somehow, a file got switched form it's appropriate folder, to a different folder. I don't know if something I did inside the game using a mod made that happen, or if it happened while placing CC, by accident. My friend helped me with it though, and after she moved that one little file, it was fine! Thank you guys so much, though, and I'm very sorry for not checking out the other threads first. I'm happy to say this is resolved. ~ <3
