Let’s just start. So this is my problem :
I’ve installed Sims 2 base game in my laptop. Everything went fine (except for some weird glitches I found, so I patched it later). A month later, I downloaded Sims 2 University then installed it. Everything was okay. I played it for about three weeks until my Nightlife expansion has done downloading. I patched Uni, then installed NL. The installation worked fine, until I opened the game and a popup message showed up. It said I have uninstalled Uni and I have to reinstall it.

I don’t understand since the Uni folder is still there without anything missing. I’ve tried to backup the neighborhoods then the popup message has gone. But the greyed-out college town thing is still there.

I’ve tried anything possible to do : I uninstall Uni ‘de facto’, which means I uninstall Uni from my laptop clearly; I deleted the directory files (because it won't uninstall itself) and erase the program from my laptop then reinstall it (only Uni). No effect.
I tried to mount both CDs (uni and NL) then play the game by clicking on NL icon. No effect.
Of course, I haven’t tried to uninstall everything then reinstall them back again. I'm afraid it will cause another weird things to happen. Just like when my friend uninstall her sims game, then reinstall it again, it showed to be installed but the game won't start. I won't do the same thing cuz I knew I'm cursed with this game

My question is :
1. What causes this to happen? I’ve patched the older EP and base game, but why wouldn’t both EPs work together?
2. Does the downloaded game makes sense? But my uncle has done the same thing and he got no problem at all. But it’s years ago so my uncle couldn’t help me.
3. If I have to uninstall everything then reinstall it all, should I install them in the reverse order?
4. I’m going to install another EP—just say, Seasons. Will Seasons uninstalls NL like what NL has done to Uni?

Whew, that was a very long post. Sorry guys And also, forgive my bad English Dx
I’ve told my brother to find answers somewhere but he didn’t get anything. So I decided to find the answers myself. I hope there would be good answers here.
I’ve tried to search about the solution in Google, and few times in MTS, yes I've read few posts with the same problem but I haven’t got the light and there's no explanation WHY would this thing happen. I’m disappointed because this kind of topic isn’t featured anywhere. I thought this is a serious problem although it’s very rare.

I also noticed somewhere, I found a post with the same problem. It's not Uni and NL, but NL and Pets (Pets mysteriously uninstalled NL). I said wtf lol the sims 2 game is very strange
Please help me, people!

I think the answer is simply that with a game this complex, weird things can and do happen.

If it were me, I'd back up my game, uninstall everything, then reinstall in order. (Reverse order doesn't sound like a good idea at all.) patch as you go, if the download editions do, in fact, need patching.

When you're ready to add another EP in the future, check out how to prepare for the next EP to help minimize potential problems integrating the new EP.

Sounds like a registry problem. You need to do a clean reinstall.

There is a known bug which can cause some of your EPs to become uninstalled... I believe that it's associated with using the Launcher. You should be able to just reinstall any missing EPs.

Well, something that I feared, if I reinstall them in order again, the same problem will happen. But I also know if I do the reverse order, my game will crash sometimes (that's what I heard)
So I think the 'install in which order thing' won't cause this problem. Someone on the net installed NL first then Uni, the same problem doesn't exist in his game.
But that's a good advice too, I'll try it later!

What is the 'registry problem'? Like the key code I used or something?
Maybe this is need to be known, whenever I try to reinstall Uni, the autorun runs perfectly. But when it comes to 'select directory' section (on whatever the name is) the Uni picture on the left side of the autorun changed into Seasons picture. Maybe I've mistaken the key code?

Yeah, that should be
Weirdly, my sims game won't recognize Uni although I've reinstalled it. But SimPE recognized it perfectly. Duh.
Maybe I can fix this from the launcher? You know, later EPs like BV also can uninstalls the older EP(s). But it's not known yet for the older EP(s) to uninstall another EP(s).

dodoodle, just to check- are these games you're installing through Origin, or that you have downloaded from a torrent?

I think you PMed me that you had already tried reinstalling Uni, but you can try this anyway. Not sure what you mean by 'fix from the launcher'; you don't need Launcher to install an EP. Just reinstall the missing EPs again.

I've tried to reinstall it like million times and it still won't work. I've had Uni installed now but the game still won't recognize it. There's no popup message anymore but the greyed-out college town button is still there--in every 'hoods I play. Just asking, if peoples uninstalled Uni by themselves after they had another EPs (maybe because they got bored or something) will the greyed-out button turned out as well?
Actually, I'd like to try if I can access Uni after I uninstall NL. But I'm not sure if it can fix the problem.

Can you please answer this question also?

If you cannot reinstall, then please do a clean uninstall first as I suggested before, by clearing your registry. If you read the link I gave you, full instructions are there.

In that case, you'll need to buy (all) the game(s) before we can help you.
