I want a horse but I don't want to take care of it. I want to use it for racing. Isn't there a place I can pay to take care of it like real life? Any help would be appreciated. Do I need to buy a horse to race?

You need to own and take care of the horse to be able to race it. If you do not wish to take care of it, you can always set its motives to maximum.

Can you enter horses that don't belong to your sim into races? If so then you could always make a livery by having a sim live in a large lot, with several horses. If you make friends with your chosen horse you could then ride it, so perhaps allowing you to enter into contests. You would have to use a mod to make sure that the sim didn't sell the horses or move or anything though!

Yes you need to have a horse to enter a race. The sim needs to be riding one in order to enter the races.

Horses can very easily fulfill their motives. Hunger by grazing on the ground or any ground that has been terrain-painted with grass. Energy by napping anywhere (they can sleep upright). Exercise by galloping around. Thirst, by drinking from any body of water (lakes, ponds, the trough etc.)

Despite this, Horses are very high maintenance pets, and you really need to devote a sim to get the most out of owning horses. If you just want a horse to just survive and live, just send the horse to the horse training field in appaloosa plains (it has almost everything a horse needs to survive.)

i find that they actually dont gain much in the way of hunger satisfaction by grazing alone. a hitching post has both hay and water, which can fill them up fast if/when the OP wants to bring them to a race.

@OP:
id suggest keeping 2 horses, even if you dont want to race both of them. they can groom each other (which keeps them from getting smelly and needing to be brushed by your sim) and socialize if your sim is always busy with other things.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
