Columns and wall pieces can only "support" so many floor tiles, so in the middle of a room, when you're a certain distance from the walls, floor tiles no longer have that support.

Put a column under the empty spot in the middle, and you'll be able to place the carpet tiles. Once they're in, you can delete the column, and the tiles will stay.

It doesn't look like it is too high. What is it, three stories? It should be no problem. Would you post another photo with the walls and roof visible. I know you said it has no roof, but I'm curious if anything is obstructing placement of a roof. Also, out of curiosity, what happens if you try to place a dormer above the highest story?

Finally, I was wondering about the easel with a chair in front of it... doesn't that render both unusable?

The dormer trick has always worked for me when trying to build above three stories. If that doesn't work, I read that there is a cheat that allows you to specify the levels, though I've never tried it. Type CTRL+SHIFT+C, then type setHighestAllowedLevel [#], where the # specifies how many levels you want to build.

I'm glad I read your question, since it also looks like there is a way to go above five stories, though I'll have to read through that thread myself. It's url is http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=234774

Good luck!

My pleasure, YumiLoveMe. I'm glad you got it to work. Building is fun, eh? I think it is still my favorite aspect of the game - definitely what got me hooked. Now have fun moving a family into lovely new house!
