 What is the difference between a romantic interest and a boyfriend/girlfriend

I'm new to the Sims 3 and I'd like to know what the difference between a romantic interest and a boyfriend/girlfriend is. |

Romantic Interest is one step below boyfriend/girlfriend. Once the Sims become romantic interests, eventually the option under romantic menu will come up to "propose go steady", if the other Sim accepts, they are in a committed relationship and are boyfriend/girlfriend. |

Furthermore, a sim can have as many romantic interests as they wish, but only one girlfriend/boyfriend. |

a romantic interest happens when you say much as bat your eyelashes at someone, and then suddenly they start acting like you're in a commited relationship, even though your not, and get jealous when you so much as flirt with somebody else. its also when you go on a date with someone, have a mutually awful time, have no interest in seeing each other ever again but still get called a cheat when you later marry the man/woman of your dreams several years later, when the person you went on that ONE date with has also moved on and married. boyfriend/girlfriend: a steady relationship, where the romantic partner has every right to expect commitment Romantic interest: Another retarded EA invention, like rabbitholes |

I see it as a helper of who your sim can shag. Want/need a new victim? Check that list and go for the one you like the most. That little heart icon is extremely useful for romantic LTW sims. For the other sims it just serves as occasional funny drama. (Help hint if you don't like drama: someone want to accuse you sim of whatever? Surround your sim with walls or lock your door for a few seconds. Drama avoided.) |

Good question! I'd like to think of it as a mutual benefits/friends with benefits kind of thing your Sim can have (as you can give them as many as you want) but a boyfriend/girlfriend is only one Sim your Sim is seeing. So, romantic interest=open relationship (not committed) Having a boyfriend/girlfriend=monogamous relationship (committed). At least, that how I see it.  I know there are some ways around this, but that's the general rule of thumb for me.Still sucks that having other lovers is considered cheating, though. I guess it's a very human reaction to get jealous, but still, if you're not officially seeing any one person in particular and yet you're "dating" someone at the same time, you'd think they'd get the message... |

Romantic interest is actually a useful thing, because this way you can have romance with more than 1 sims, but, hell, like others said above, it is annoying sometimes, when those romanitc interests (who are usually one night stand partners or even sims you;ve been flirting with just for fun) accuse you of cheating and create dramas. I mean, c'mon, guys, we've had fun and said good bye, live your lifes and don't touch mine (just realized that the last sentence rhymes, lol). |

i might add that you need to be boyfriend/girlfriend with your intended BEFORE you are allowed to get married. no vegas weddings for the sims. |

Just to point out that there's slightly more to making a Romantic Interest than merely batting your eyes at em. You can Flirt all you want, even WooHoo when they find you Extremely Irresistable - so long as you don't Kiss them, Declare Attraction to them, Ask em to Stay Over in a Flirty way or Make Out with em on the bed after WooHoo. Of course, it's very easy to one of those things inadvertantly - or have em do it to you autonomously - but it's entirely possible to end up with just a Best Friend WooHoo Buddy if that's what you want. |

For me romantic interest is badly made... Once I had a sim who went to a prom, ALONE, he was loner and hopeless romantic so it was planned for him to find someone as YA or A. But no, some girl kissed him at the prom = romantic interest grown up between them. But after the prom they've never met. Later when he was YA he found his one and only, when they've started to have this "romantic interest" message showed up that he now has the reputation of naughty. WTF? Because of some old horny girl that just kissed him at the prom? Ehhh. Love you EA <3 |
