@Ladyhawke - I hope the black cat comes back.
My cat had surgery yesterday - there were some root pieces left in his gums, but he also had a resorptive lesion on one of his teeth. So they took out all his remaining teeth. I'm hoping that will cure his problem.
I wouldn't have any cats if strays hadn't started showing up around 5 years ago. Before that I had never seen one stray in my yard, just neighbor's cats here to kill the birds. And now I also have a cat that belonged to my neighbor. He was a very mean, territorial cat and I chased him away many times with the supersoaker, but he always came back. Last year he started hanging around here more and more and leaving dead baby rabbits on the doormat and running in the house whenever the door was opened. A few months ago, my neighbor told me he never came home anymore and would run away if they tried to approach him. So he's my cat now. I used to call him Tony Soprano, but now it's just Tony.
I have a really good book about cats - The Character of Cats by Stephen Budiansky. It explains a lot about their behavior.

Tony Soprano, lol. That's just great. The cat mafia.

I hope your kitty does well after his surgery! As for the black cat here, I still haven't seen him. That's the thing about the strays I've had around my place. They don't leave any kind of dead animals - thank goodness.

One of the black cats I had as a kid - Blackie - he used to leave dead birds at the back door for us for our approval. The birds got wise though and would dive bomb him constantly. They would swoop down and tap his rump and he would flip over and watch them fly away. It was hilarious to watch. They never hurt him him, just annoyed him.

The black kitty is back! After eight days of prowling, I guess.

I'm not sure but it may have had something to do with two new cats I've seen around lately. They might be marking the place up because the black cat had been smelling everything in the vicinity intently.

I'm just happy to see the non-social little bug.

Yay! Great to hear!

It's my Donovan's first [estimated] birthday today, though considering that today is now also the date of the tragedy in Boston, I may change it to tomorrow or yesterday.

Kitties!
I'm only a teenager but my family already says I due to become a crazy cat lady. Ever since I was introduced to my grandma's cat (Always known her, we're the same age) I've been a die hard cat lover. I currently have two cats. They're from the same litter but you would never guess it.

The bigger of the two is Boots. Originally thought to be a girl, the kindly vets informed us of our mistake, Oops! He's over two feet long, from nose to tail, has the softest short fur I've ever petted and acts like the stories of original rag dolls. You can pick him up, hold him upside down, spin him around on the floor, drag him by the tail and he'll still love you and never scratch you once. He's very playful and likes chasing toy mice, balls and rainbow string around the room. In fact he's easier to bathe then my dog, which is good since he always covered in mud and often stinks like rotting meat and smoke(No, I have no clue either). He's mostly black, but has a white belly, white boots on his feet and a sliver of white going up his nose. Oddly enough he looks exactly like Tuxie, my grandma's cat.

The smaller of the two is Racer. He's a brown tabby, a very common cat pattern. He is tiny compared to his brother and a ton more frightened. Racer is frightened of almost everything, from the phone ringing to my brother Drew (Only person he truly hates). However he's always dying for attention and will constantly rub up against your feet trying to get petted or chasing my hand around my bed when I'm trying to lay down. He and Boots curl up on the chair and I've seen Raver groom Boots. They also play around constantly, though the first time I saw it I thought they where fighting. Racer strangely enough looks like one of our old cats, now my grandma's other cat, Speedy.

Tuxie is my grandma's cat who's around 15 years old. She big, black and white and can be very grumpy at times. I used to be on her hit list, but over the years she's calmed down and is okay with me now. Now it's my niece who's on her bad side! The weirdest thing I know about her is that she loves the taste of oranges.

Speedy used to be our cat, but since she never got along with Boots and Racer, she camped down at my grandma's place. We found her as a stray and she adopted us, we didn't have a chance to tell her no. Speedy is around 9 or 10 years old, we not certain because of her being a stray.

I have one cat, named Buffy. She certainly lives up to her name sake as shes always hunting things and brings in dead things all the time -_- I've often woken up to huge blackbirds in the kitchen, sometimes still alive and flying around. And i've lost count of the amount of mice i've had to clean up in the morning.

She's got a funny temperament, not very people friendly, very independant and you can only really approach her if its on her terms otherwise she just stalks off. She always looks like shes plotting my death as well, constant moody cat look! But other the years we've developed a understanding of each other and shes warmed to me, she comes and sits on me but doesn't let me stroke her, and she sleeps on my bed a lot, and i get an evil glare when ever i try and get in it!

-and in that moment, i was infinate.

As well as the 10 kids I am owned by 4 cats. They love us very much and as a token of their love they bring in wildlife for us to enjoy. Sometimes the wildlife escape. In fact, one day I was called by my second son to come and see the mouse. My son was playing the piano when a mouse ran up the back and sat on the top of the piano eating what appeared to be a piece of cake. It ran away when it saw me and sheltered in the utility room where several kids and at least 6 cats, ours plus neighbors, tried to coax it out. Husband had to catch it in a humane trap. We released it with great ceremony in a park.

Another time our oldest cat, Ringo, released a bird in the living room and all four cats chased it up the curtains which fell down. Despite this we love our cats very much as they are gorgeous. Cats are great and so intelligent.

Begin rant -
So my cat had his remaining teeth out on Apr 10 and he was having trouble eating, so I took him to my regular vet and she gave him a pain shot. But it turned out she didn't have the slow release shot and over that weekend he still wasn't eating or drinking. So on Monday I called the vet who did the surgery and they said bring him in - they gave him the pain shot and fluids and something else. So at first he was eating, but then the same thing started happening plus his eye started weeping and he was hiding all the time.
So today I called again and the assistant seemed annoyed and was like 'how do you know he's not eating and drinking? He could be doing it when you aren't watching.' And she said he wasn't dehydrated when I brought him last Monday - then why did the vet give him 2 things of subcutaneous fluids? To calm my neurotic fears? Also he'd lost 1 lb since the surgery.
Because he already went through an incident where he got beaten up (by Tony Soprano before he was my cat) and he didn't eat or drink or move from a chair on the porch for 3 days and then a thing that I guess happens to cats happened where because he wasn't eating, his body started metabolizing his fat and the fat overwhelms the liver or something and something about enzymes blah blah I can't remember and he had to go to the emergency vet and it cost a lot of money.
So, yes, I'm getting wound up about it and now I feel the perfect storm of anxiety brewing inside me which always happens when I feel helpless and not sure what's going on. /rant

I know where you are coming from, Rose. Vet's have pissed me off many times because some just don't seem to care. When Lexi was a baby she fell to less than a pound. At the time I could still hear some and called my Vet and before she was eventually treated for a few days - and hundreds of dollars - they acted as if they didn't want to be bothered. At the time my check was a few days off but they would not wait for their money, even if I gave them a post dated check. They wanted it before they would even look at her. I was crying on the phone. I was so scared for her.

It was the longest two days of my life, but I finally was able to get her better.

Another cat I had in the past, Jonah, was a complete love muffin. He became ill and I took him to a nearby Vet. The man ticked me off because he grabbed him by the back of his neck and just flipped him around like he couldn't care less about him. I was crying in the room and didn't dare speak to the man because I was afraid of getting arrested for dragging him across the table.

Eventually, Jonah was sent to specialist and he needed a surgery. This doctor - the only specialist - had done another procedure on him before that cost me a good deal of money. Now, she said he needed at $1,200 surgery and there were no guarantees. I couldn't afford that in one throw and asked if she would take $200 every week until it was paid for. She refused. I took Jo home and tried to raise the money but they kept calling and saying they needed to see him again to 'keep him in their system'. It was $50 a visit and I couldn't seem to get aboveboard.

Sadly, I had to eventually turn him over to the ASPCA in the hopes they would help him. My other cats smelled his sickness and would beat on him and it was just becoming bad. I still cry when I think about him, he was such a good cat and in my heart I doubted that they wasted any medicine on him.

I understand feeling helpless and the anger at getting the runaround from the Vet. I nursed Raven back to health when she was younger and fell into a small space in the kitchen. I used an eye dropper with water and real tuna or her other favorite foods. A little each day.

I hope your kitty gets better. I really do.

I took my cat to my regular vet and she prescribed oral pain meds and antibiotic and amazingly, his mouth has healed and he started eating again. She thinks he may have had an infection from the surgery itself. The vet who did the surgery is the only feline dentist in this part of the state - but he also does large animal medicine so is out of the office a lot. They don't really know me - just from this cat being sickly, I'm hyper-attuned to his health - and maybe they thought I was nuts.
On the down side, just found a dead baby rabbit on the door mat - thank you, Tony. Don't feel like dealing with this again because he won't stop until they're all dead.

Oh, Tony Soprano. Obviously he really is the head of the cat mafia if he's determined to take them all down. Sorry about the dead rabbit. He does it for approval. Blackie used to do it with birds when I had him many years ago. He's trying to provide for you in a disturbing, yet natural cat way. I know I could do with the less graphic version, but it is what it is.

I'm glad to hear your kitty is doing better! That's terrific news! :D

Thanks, Ladyhawke.
I kept Tony in all night and this morning. He just (1:30pm) brought another dead baby rabbit to the mat. I told him 'no' and took it away from him and buried it. I'm not feeling like much of a cat lover at the moment.

I wish I wasn't so softhearted...
We now have two new little tiny kitties to care for. When we moved into our trailer about 3 months ago, there was a pregnant stray hanging around. She's really friendly. About a week ago, or a little less, we finally found her kittens. Two, I think she had more but they must have died. She was a HUGE pregger kitty. I think they're about 5 weeks old.

The mother cat is an outside cat. But we brought the kittens in to tame them, they were already becoming wild. They're still skittish but they're getting better I guess. The gray/white one is more tame than the darker one, which still spits every time someone goes near her... We've been letting the mother cat inside 1-2 times a day to nurse them but they eat normal food too. We've been keeping them in a dog cage, pretty big for two tiny kittens. But I let them in our empty bedroom to play every day. Right now they're chasing each other around and they keep running face-first into the mirror sitting on the floor lol.

Not sure of their genders yet. If female, I'm naming the darker one Iset (ee-set) and the gray one Bastet (bas-tet). I haven't decided on male names yet but it'll probably be after Egyptian gods instead of goddesses. The gray one has two blue/gray eyes (looks exactly like it's father, who is also a stray) and the dark one has one dark gray and one blue eye.

StardustX: They're very lovely kittens

Recently a friend found some kittens in her garage (they had gone to tidy it up). Unfortunately the kittens and their mother have had to go to the RSPCA to be rehomed, she can't keep them because both her and her husband are allergic to furry animals. Good news is that another friend who was looking for a kitten is going to have one of them And like yours, StardustX, they were on the way to going feral. It makes me very sad that people can be so cruel (the mother cat had been abandoned - she isn't feral!) Now the mother cat should find a loving home too. Funny how animals just know who is going to be the best person to find when they need someone to care for them! Cos, altho my friend couldn't keep them she did look after and feed them until they could be picked up.

Aww they're so sweet. My favorite cat was a pregnant stray. She is the sweetest out of my 3, always rubbing around for pats or sitting on my shoulder. She had four which I all found homes for. I'm guessing she was dumped, but who would dump such a sweet cat must be a very hard person.

Beautiful kitties!

I've had a couple new ones move into my yard, which is why the black cat has been a little scarce. One is light tabby gray and white and another is a black and white tuxedo cat. The other day the gray/white one came and sat in the driveway and I was yelling "Hey Kitty!" through the window. It was starting to get really dark so I didn't notice the black one sitting on the side porch until he turned around and looked at me. Scared the crap out of me, lol. I was like "Hey, Bubba!". He was only about three feet away from me out the window and didn't run. He's really getting used to me!

Aw. Poor thing.

That's how this one is. She's really sweet and loves attention. I asked the landlord and he said he thinks the last tenants left her and the other strays here.
She meows constantly, that's probably why they left her. It's extremely annoying but she's still a sweet kitty.

My husband said it sounds like she smokes 2 packs a day because she's so hoarse. I need to get her fixed soon before she gets pregnant again, if she isn't already...

We had a male stray cat in our house once. We had seen before but he decided to stay, he went to vets who told us that he had a heart murmur and a few days later he died from a stroke, on 10th of November 2011.
